mreinman wrote:You guys should listen to that podcast. It was Lowe interviewing JVG and it may have been one of the best interviews / bball convo's that I've ever heard.JVG has a completely different take then that article. He does not blame hinkie and understands the process. He does not think that Colangelo will be doing much besides talking to the press. He also thinks that the NBA, owners and the agents are all full of it and if they want they can stop this tank crap by changing the rules but they chose not to.
Of course you loved it. It sides with everything you believe in, in this case, Hinkie.
JVG is a great commentator and calls an awesome basketball game....but lets be honest here, dude was never a good coach and is the last person I would be listening too when it comes to evaluating players and talent.
Plus..JVG worked closely with Sam Hinkie in Houston so his opinion may be a bit biased
Really seems to be the final word on this topic...
Sam Hinkie, architect of the Sixers' three-year strategy of rebuilding through scraping the bottom of the standings while collecting future draft picks like bubble-gum cards, remains the general manager in title alone. No one in the league expects Hinkie's voice to carry over Colangelo's when it comes to personnel decisions going forward. That ship has sailed, along with the needlessly complex equations that built it.So as the Sixers' tale of woe wound hopelessly around the league, the lone victory registered against the equally clueless Lakers on Dec. 1, it made its way to the six-block, one-avenue radius that separates NBA headquarters from Harris' office at Apollo Global Management. And now, there's a new pilot at the controls.
After all, it's just basketball -- and the point of basketball is simply to collect good basketball players and get them to play together.
Harris, with an assist from the commissioner, finally realized that it's not rocket science.
It would see Hinkie has had his Acme Magic Kit taken from him by Harris, who now prefers to have a more traditional architect build up his franchise.
If we have learned anything, taking talent and putting it with a bunch of unhappy folks, just makes for more unhappy folks.
Unless Phili land that once in a generation talent

, they are not going to change the moral of that team. Think they are starting to realize that.
Stick a fork in them and Hinkie.

D'Antoni doesn't like post play, its why Zach Randolph was moved after MDA got the job in NY. They've got Embiid, Okafor, and Noel. If Dantoni sticks around it could mean that Colangelo is going to make some big moves over the summer, or sooner. Was bound to happen, but this might expedite the process if D'Antoni was hired.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I am glad you said it. I hated Dantoni as the Knicks coach but in hindsight may have spammed the board too much with my opinions about him at the time.
Bringing in MDA is an interesting move when your top 3 prospects are post guys who can't stretch the floor.

Mike please do NOT take the gig!!!

I don't think he has a lot of options.

I was about to say that he doesn't have a PG he would be comfortable working with in Philly either, but he was with the Lakers when Marshall was there...no? I think that Marshall played pretty well for him.
Assume that MDA would do the job Gentry was doing with GS last year- almost like an offensive coordinator.
One of Colangelo's jobs will be to straighten out the roster imbalance Hinkie created.
OK4 at the 5...Saric, perhaps, at the 4. Can't see keeping Noel around, although his trade value is probably pretty low at this point. Who knows what they can do with Embiid at this point.
Embiid is huge. A little surprised that he kicked the ball like that.
Have to wonder if D'Antoni becomes the associate head coach if Philly would trade Embiid at a discount. It would be a risk but if he can come back it could play out really well.

Has had a lot of time to work on his upper body, it would seem.

He would have to play a good number of games with significant MPG numbers before I would give up anything for him.
You would almost want to see him play a complete season.
There have also been rumors that they have not been enamored with his work ethic at times.

LOL, this makes sense. All a part of Hinkie's plan to get more top picks.

Even money if D'Antoni is hired he begs Colangelo to get Lin, even if it means paying a premium. Jordan would be in the catbird seat, could probably extract some draft picks.

I would ask for Grant and a pick. Wroten and Marshall should put up numbers. I wonder if Dantoni will like McConnell as much as Brown.

Its impressive how he keeps landing multi-million dollar gigs in spite of everything post Nash. Very good basketball theorist, his ideas have had an impact on the game, but has to prove (to me anyway) that he can succeed in the NBA as a coach without Nash.

Whatever he asks for Im sure Jordan will be smiling if he gets a call from Colangelo about Lin. I would ask for Grant and a pick, Jordan would have them by the balls.

What impact has he had on the league? Is anyone running that bullshiit SSOL offense?
Dude is a hack coach who piggy backed of the success of having Steve Nash on his team (much like JVG with P.Ewing). Thats why he has failed everywhere and NO ONE is banging down his door to re-hire him.

What we're seeing GS do (on offense) has its roots in D'Antoni's system. Where they diverge is defense just as important as offense to the Warriors. There is no clone of D'Antoni's system being implemented, but as much as Im not a fan of MDA as a coach, Im not going to suggest that he hasn't had an influence on the league.
