Knicks · what happened to D. Williams? (page 1)

callmened @ 11/18/2015 1:18 PM
What happened to Derrick Williams? averaging 7.3ppg and 2.3 rebs. if you take out the two spectacular Milwaukee games its 4ppg and 1.5rebs. This guy got 5mill in the hope that hes not actually a scrub. The hope was that the triangle and the right environment would turn him around. sigh.
mreinman @ 11/18/2015 1:19 PM
what happened to him? Nothing. He never happened.
bigbasketballs @ 11/18/2015 1:22 PM
This is how the NBA works sometimes.

70 games left. Williams will have his games, even weeks. Maybe even a month.

Way too early to perform the autopsy.

I agree, a head scratcher. flashes that he was our best talent after Melo (and KP), great game, and then practically DNPs.

He may need to buy in, learn, etc - but I always think its on the coaches as well to get them to perform.

fishmike @ 11/18/2015 1:35 PM
he breaks the offense, has not been good on defense and the coach trusts Lance. I think he's being outplayed by other guys more than anything else.
SJUknicksfan @ 11/18/2015 1:36 PM
Let's not rush to judgment. He's probably not as good as he played in the first few games, but probably not as bad as he's played lately. Let's give him a little more time before we call it a bad signing.

a bad signing is Alan Houston, when a contract is an albatross. Not every signing and pick works out. DWill has talent. I dont have a problem with this signing. Time will tell.
Nalod @ 11/18/2015 2:13 PM
My take is D.Will is not adhereing to the structure of the offense and defense. Great athlete but he is not "getting it" while his team is.

As the knicks progress the flow of the offense becomes instinctive. Early the team was still finding itself and MAYBE (me guessing) was not in structure as much as it has been. Basically as the season goes on the team gets better at the offense and defensive schemes and the team is more structured. D.Will has been bypassed and thus is thinking too much which is never good. If he is missing assisgnments and pissing off all those around him its not a good thing.

You can see it yesterday. KP was in the flow of the game and everything he touched was wonderful even if it was a miss. Dwill comes in and he is getting offensive fouls, forcing things. Dude has to let the game come to him.

Not all signings work out and as much as He wants to be here and buy into he might not be the right fit. No big deal, its not a toxic contract and only for the year.
70 games to still work in.

Yea once he shows the coaching staff that he gets it and understands how to fit in this team concept he will get another chance. Until then here is zero need to rush him and force feed him minutes. He may not get it in which case we let him walk no biggie. But he has the talent that when he figures it out in between the ears it will pay huge dividence for this team. I can see DW killing it in the playoffs with our depth vs other teams weaker 2nd units. That's championship stuff right there. Phil is trying to build a deep team like his Red Holzman Knick teams of the 70s

callmened @ 11/18/2015 3:29 PM
he has a player option so most likely he wont walk unless he has a break out yr and wants to earn more than 5 mill
bigbasketballs @ 11/18/2015 3:36 PM
If I recall, even during his big preseason performances, Fisher was muted in his praise of Williams and I believe even implied some problems with his performance from a team standpoint and some fans were wondering what the hell Fish was talking about.

Fisher happened

Clean @ 11/18/2015 4:13 PM
People who are blaming Fisher are not noticing how badly DWill has played. If I was Fisher I would have sat him also. Fisher is doing the start thing. He is going to play the people off the bench who is currently playing the best. IF they don't have it that game he will go deeper into the bench to find someone that does. This is why KOQ was 1st off the bench and is now getting DNPS. This is also why KS was getting DNPs and is now the 1st off the bench. You play who gives you the best chance to win. When that person is DWill he will get more time.

Fisher happened

DWILL:

1-3
0-2
1-6
0-1
1-3
1-4
4-11

Last 7 gamed 8-30

So your the coach killer and you want dont get why a guy who isnt hitting any shots is losing his minutes to other players who are performing well. You make zero sense.

When he plays better he will earn the minutes. Seems your the only one struggling with this. Not sure what else to say.

Knicks1969 @ 11/18/2015 5:34 PM
I am just taken aback by the throw stuff on the wall to see what will stick approach by Fisher. But as long as we are winning, I will be patient
