Knicks · Grant needs D league time (page 2)

Trice is skilled but raw and a little on the small side. Toure Murry might be able to help us more.

They have won their last two games in the D-League but since Summers when down Trice's assists have really gone down as well. Makes sense.

Grant is a rookie playing the hardest position to learn in the NBA. It takes time to become a solid PG. The kid gets plenty of minutes now. He just needs to keep working on his game and the coaching staff needs to continue working to develop him. I don't think the D-league is the answer for him, but he gets solid minutes now with the main team.

Trice had some kind of injury which kept him from starting in game 3, although he did play in the game.

His shooting has not been as good as in the first 2 games. Not sure the injury is an issue.

Also not sure about linking fewer assists to Summers being out...have not looked at their specific connection during the games I saw.

Grant needs to learn on the job in the NBA. Growing pains are expected and necessary.
BigDaddyG @ 11/24/2015 11:32 AM
In perfect world, I'd say send Grant down to regain confidence in his shot. Unfortunately, we dont have that kind of depth. Also, lets be realistic. Whoever we brought, whether it's Trice or Murray, probably wouldn't be more effective than Grant anyway.

I wouldnt send Grant down, but I would give Trice some minutes if anything get Grant's attention. I believe Grant has the makings of a starting PG, but I see a lot of indecision right now. Maybe the prospect of being supplanted in the rotation might help him focus.

He needs to play 40 minutes 4-5 games where he takes 15-20 shots. Jeremy Lamb went to the D league 4 times in 2 years. Now hes shooting 52% and looks really good. Its developmental--something rookies havent had in the past.
Id suggest we look at Erick greene--hes a free agent and he was a star in the summer league. We have the roster spot. I think hes leading the D league in scoring by a good margin.

clyderules @ 11/24/2015 3:54 PM
Green scored 40 last night. Someone will sign him to a 10 day contract soon if not us. He might become our best point guard as soon as the ink dries. Same for Murry or Cotton. Why not? We have an open slot and some guys who would look better dressed in suits instead of jerseys.

Is Jeremy Tyler available as well?

Seriously, Toure Murray is a borderline NBA 15th man type of player. Grant right now is considered a building block for the future. Why on earth would we give minutes to a guy who is barely an NBA caliber player when Grant needs to learn on the job? We ain't winning any chips this season, let Grant develop. Ill never understand why people pine over these NBDL guys who had a decent game or two a couple years back as if they are diamonds in the rough. There is a reason Toure Murray has not stuck on an NBA roster and it isn't because everyone is somehow missing something.

clyderules @ 11/24/2015 5:49 PM
Somebody said that not that long ago about Whiteside, Johnson and Galloway too.

If we want to play for next year then, yes, play Grant til he drops. If we want to make our team better now and improve our point guard position and we have an open slot then why not try it?

Absolutely. Id Sign Greene and give Grant 5 games below. Trice needs continued work he is no where near Greene

I think people would feel differently about "developing" Grant if we were like last year's Knicks, but I think many of us feel this team is competitive enough to a point where it is hard to justify developing a player if he is not helping us win games.

I guess you have to hope you sign a Galloway, Whiteside, Johnson, Covington, Green etc. Those guys were all signed last year and are very good nba players. Ignoring d league talent at this point is like ignoring international players. The big difference is that there is even less of a risk with these guys as you can sign them to ten day contracts. You aren't generally aren't going to get lottery pick type talent but there is a talent pool.

if I remember correctly, Toure didn't have much of a jumper either. Is there no one else?

knickscity @ 11/25/2015 5:33 AM
I doubt the Knicks send Grant to the D-League. They built the roster rather thin in the backcourt. Hopefully he'll snap out of this, but yes he has looked awful for awhile now.

Ok but we can safely ignore guys like Toure Murray who have already been auditioned and failed.

I get wanting the team to be competitive but it's a fine line. Let's be honest they aren't going to compete for a championship this year but they can still be competitive for a playoff spot. That's not very hard to do in the NBA. I think we can develop a guy like Grant and still have the goal of getting a playoff seed.

If the scouts like a d league guy? Go for it. I'm all for it. But guys like Murray are not NBA material we already know that.

clyderules @ 11/25/2015 2:24 PM
Some guys actually go to the development league to develop. What you know about Murry is 2 years old
clyderules @ 11/25/2015 9:42 PM
Bryce Cotton signing with the Suns. Let's get Greene and/or Murry. We desperately need help at guard!
BRIGGS @ 11/26/2015 9:21 AM
Grant is just shot right now
