Knicks · Early to Westchester (page 2)

Early needs floor time. He put up good numbers in Westchester last year. The team is supposed to have a more developmental coaching staff in place. Hopefully this helps him.

we need a penetrator. Can he do that? Is he fast enough? Or do we just have a younger less efficient calderon?

the putative point position in the triangle does not necessarily need the ability to break down defenses but should be able to make good entry passes to a post player and be able to hit the corner three. think about fisher's role in los angeles. think about the bulls guards before fisher. none had the ability to break down defenses. fisher made an entry pass and often was in the right corner in the triangle. he made a living hitting the corner three.

the bigger issue for fredette is can he defend at the nba levels against other bench guards. if fredette is called up i think he is going to eat into grant's minutes. i love grant's potential but he isn't triangle ready because he can't hit a corner three. he has three threes this season, one notable one last night, notable because they are so infrequent.

Fisher had Kobe and some damn good pick men too. You think that jose can't throw an entry pass? He has a very very high bball IQ. He can beat the pressure defense.

how can you infer this from my post? i merely said the point guard in the triangle does not need penetrating, drive and kick ability. it's actually counterproductive in the triangle because the offense is supposed to radiate out from the players in the post. it's nice that grant has the ability to drive and kick/finish but in the triangle these skills are secondary to making good entry passes, hitting corner threes, working a pick and roll/pop game.

why do you think that jose is not working?

generally he can't keep his man in front of him and he does not rotate very well either. he is an excellent shooter, which i had questions about until he recovered his stroke. and he is also pretty good in pick and roll.

he also, sadly, possesses zero intangibles. and he is pretty much a zero-sum player even when his shot is on. his cumulative +/- is very bad his season. and his rpm is -.08

this is just my intuition here, but seems to me that when teams make their runs it is often when calderon is on the floor. yes the bench has been sub-par and uneven, but as a starter calderon is often on the floor when the knicks collapse. again, just a hunch on my part.

watch the next few games how high calderon needs to give up the ball due to pressure. To me, that is his biggest issue.

Should actually have been sent down a long time ago. Not even sure I would consider it a demotion, since all he was doing was looking pretty on the sidelines...He needs to play, and with Summers gone, Early can assume his role in the offense.

Both teams practice in the Knicks facility, so he can still work out with the team.

Jimmer and Early look pretty good tonight.

Jimmer with 30 points...Early 19 & 13 with about 7 minutes in the 4th.

37 points for Jimmer now.

I'd much much much rather see Fredette get minutes for the Knicks than Sasha.

trice seems kinda pissed that early and jimmer came to town

I have a feeling neither is going to be there for very long.

Jimmer was efficient, but seemed a bit selfish, IMO.

Trice was reduced to watching the Jimmer show at times.

Early simply replaced Summers.

Different positions...

Would you also like to see Jimmer getting abused on D?

One of the Knicks' assistant coaches was siting with Houston. KOQ was also watching.

I saw KOQ there - I was wondering if he was there to support Early.

I'd be curious to see him Jimmer get a shot. And I'd be curious to see him play a spot SG role, not a PG role.

Sasha got abused pretty well on D.

I think Jimmer might be worth a shot - though I agree with you that he played a selfish brand of ball tonight. Still, his shot is damn good. Can he accept and thrive in a smaller role? I think it's worth a ten day contract - though I believe the Knicks can't offer ten day contracts until January.

nixluva @ 11/30/2015 9:57 PM
Jimmer might be good for this team. We don't need another guard who is shy about shooting! Knicks need scoring! We have a pretty unselfish team and I don't think adding a shooter will destroy that.

Early just needed some extra run cuz I expect he's gonna get his shot now. The D League wasn't a demotion for Early. It's just a sign they want to get him in the mix.

Jimmer is penetrating just fine!

Be nice, Nalod!
