I'm hoping by the New Year, Phil has a long meeting with him, and then they can part ways amicably, preferably to Melo's desired destination

"Preferably to Melo's desired destination"

As opposed to..? The trade Melo is going to accept to the team he doesn't want to go to.

If Melo refuses I say that we move him to the second unit until he agrees.

Right, because you want Porzingis season to be colored by a war that will play out through the media.

Let's have him have to answer questions about it after every game and for it to dominate the air around the team.

Let's assume a guy who holds the power will let him be manipulated into letting the Knicks win.

Where do I sign up?

Really need some help off the bench. The starting 5 is really solid - especially when Melo get healthier and more in rhythm. Melo has been our biggest issue with the starters he has shot the ball way too inconsistently this year thus far. If that gets better then I think the NY starting 5 is as good as almost any, despite the glaring weakness at 1 with Jose.

Where this team desperately needs help is off the bench. No go to scorer, no guard that can create at high enough a level. I also don't like that Fisher (who has done a solid job overall) often leaves Melo, Porzingis and Afflalo all on the pine for long stretches. I know Phil did that as well as a coach, but Phil had guys like Kukoc or Lamar Odom or some top notch 6th man creating. Maybe they were hoping Derrick Williams would be that guy, but he hasn't.

In addition, in general for the longrun, really need a point guard who can start that has way more speed than Jose. We need to get some quick scores and get in transition. Grant has potential, but he may be 1-2 years away if that.

Hopefully Phil is on good terms with Colangelo. I hear the Sixers have a pick or two to spare.

Chuck we may not be able to trade directly with Boston or Philly but if we get into 3 and 4 team trades--that would be my goal... My goal out of a Melo trade would be Bobby Portis and a 2017 pick in rd and 2. Or I would take Myles Turner straight up no picks needed.

Why would they ask Porzingis about it? Can he say no comment? First we would ask nicely but if Melo refuses we must make him unhappy or we're stuck with his losing game.

I am trying not to offend here but this sounds like a 10-12 year old's take on the situation. Are you just joking?

Are you familiar with the NY media?

If the Knicks bench Melo in a game of chicken to force him to waive his NTC, it becomes THE NY Knicks topic until someone gives in. No post game will be about the game, it'll be about that.

Knicks would be a laughing stock. Melo's fellow players would remember.

I think Melo will get moved at his request.

So he's leaving his home because the Knicks are 2 games under 22 games in?

Yup...only way he goes.

Not going to get much value back for him, though, and of course his contract make any possible trade much more complicated-perhaps even impossible, I would assume.

He has not shown enough since the injury to warrant any kind of trade that we would like, IMO...and if he does start playing well, we might be winning, and it would be difficult to give him up under those circumstances.

What team would actually want an older player coming off a knee injury? He would be a complimentary player on a good team, and no rebuilding team would give up valuable draft picks or players for him at this point.

Not going to happen.

He's only saying that it is the only time he will get traded...not that he is actually asking for a trade.

he would have to get hot and become more enticing. Melo usually gets hot at some point.

I think Melo knows his best chance at winning is on another team. The Knicks are still very far away from competing for a title. Besides you guys don't think Melo feels time is running out hell his skill set is eroding right before our eyes.

He choose NY a year ago knowing the championship parts weren't there.

I think evidence strongly suggests he just wanted to be in NY.

I just don't think this urgency that fans feel translates over to players the way we think it does.

Agreed maybe he doesn't have the sense of urgency. But that no trade Claus in his contract says other wise he wanted his contract and control his destination if it doesn't work out.

I think he's already chosen his destination, is my point.

And not for nothing, what do you think he sees his odds on overtaking GS the next couple of years?Where's he going that gives him a shot?
