Okay, how?
See Thanksgiving of November 2015.
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/25935...
I meant, how do you get him to Miami?
ESPN trade machine checks out.

See. Anyone can be a GM!
So Miami is passing on Whiteside next year? They picking Melo over him?
?
Don't they have his bird rights?
No, they have his early Bird rights and given he already had two years service time before they got him, that means he's unrestricted.
So they essentially have nothing. They don't have matching rights. They can only re-sign to 175% of his 2015-16 salary or 104.5% this season's average salary.
He gets a big contract, they have to use cap room to sign him. If they have Melo-Wade-Bosh-Dragic on the books, Whiteside is gone unless he plays for the average salary for at least 2 years.
Doesn't the salary cap go up next year?
http://nba.nbcsports.com/2015/04/17/repo...
It does. Significantly.
Trying adding up Bosh, Melo, Dragic 2016-17's salaries and Wade's cap hold, subtract it from the new cap and see what you have left.
Spoiler warning - this is legitimate ... and common knowledge.
Isn't Wade a free agent also? Don't think he'd sign for the max at his age again.
Melo-Bosh-Dragic will make $65m between them.
If Melo is declining, and Melo-Wade-Bosh are so close and Wade is still good enough to make them a legit contender (then entire premise of the concept), how much you think Wade's settling for, given what he already deferred?
Either way, subtract Winslow's $2.6m from the $24m you have left.
Now, show me how Miami can sign Wade, Whiteside and 6 other players (making their bench worth a damn) for $21.4m.
They can offer Whiteside less than the max and see if he bites. Wade, if he still cares about winning and stayin in Miami, can settle in a lower 3 or 4 year contract. Sign the rest to vet minimums. Hey they did it before, right?

This is supposed to be the part where you acknowledge along with the rest of the basketball world that already knew all this that Miami will have a difficult time retaining Wade and Whiteside as is.
Adding Melo to the mix makes it a non-starter making the premise collapse upon itself.
Only way Melo goes to Miami is if Miami chooses to prioritize him over retaining Whiteside AND paying Wade AND having a bench.
The only parties who don't know this are Knicks fans with their heads so far up Melo's ass no oxygen is getting in.

How else to describe Knicks fans who propose trades ignorant of the cap the situations of teams they're proposing trades with?

I didn't make it up. ESPN Trade machine said it works! Try it yourself.
D.Wade & Pat Riley is the Miami Heat, both parties will retire as a Miami Heat.
Wade n Bosh like Melo as a multi-million dollar friend, that's as far as it goes.
Let's be real .. D.Wade would never accept Melo's slow pace no-defense talent as a teammate.
When Wade goes 1-6 shooting in the first quarter, in the 2nd n 3rd quarter Wade will pass, screen, steal, and rebound the ball .. u rarely ever see D.Wade trying to shoot himself out of a slump.

Right, that's the reason a trade won't happen and not because a trade can't happen.
Got it.
My plan would be to try and trade for a PG that can break down the D and hit a decent amount of outside shots. I would hold off on trying to trade Melo until after the offseason. If Melo and KP can't attract any good free agents then it is time to move on from Melo and build around KP.

Miami has enough talent to win division that they dont need Melo. It's actually the opposite way around. Melo could defintely use Wade to make the playoffs but that aint happening. Find all this hypothetical trade talk just talk and if this forum needs more sensationalized hypos then the only team that may ask Phil about a healthy and productive Melo is hometown Washington if they continue to struggle because there are possible fits

Just a hypothetical scenario. We'll see in the near future what fits for the Knicks and Melo. We may have to get a 3rd or 4th team involved if it comes to that point.
Plenty of destinations for Melo to choose from with the cap exploding, just have to find the right partner for the Knicks.
mreinman wrote:yellowboy90 wrote:Phil needs to trade Calderon while his efficiency is up.
you trying to tank?
No point in tanking this year, we have no pick next summer. We gotta run with our current team. If we trade Melo, it will be ONLY because some team he accepts really wants him badly, and sets us up with picks and expirings. Other than that, Melo is here for the duration. And we have no tradeable assets aside from him.

Third or fourth team is irrelevant. Math and the CBA prevents Miami from having Melo=Wade-Whiteside.

Why can't you just acknowledge the Miami situation doesn't make sense and those proposing it don't understand the facts? You spent seven posts trying to fit and square peg into a round hole, and instead of just recognizing that, you just move the goal posts.

Are you saying Melo is untradeable at this point? If not Miami, I'm sure there are plenty of teams that'd like a scoring specialist 6th man off the bench to put them into title contention. I'm sure Chicago, Houston, or even Miami would if they could.

I'm saying yes, anyone making $24m, with a prohibitive trade kicker (which he has) and a NTC (ditto) is essentially (but obviously not literally) untradeable, totally independent of the wishful thinking that he evens wants to be.

Everything about that contract simply says Melo is here to stay and that was his choice. A grumpy post game interview where he's pissed about not getting calls and losing in general does not mean a player wants to move his life to another city. When I get pissed because the town I live in gave me a parking ticket my wifes first reaction wasnt an assumption that I want to move the family to Florida. Thats what this thread is saying. Perspective. There can be none with this player.

So true .. we could use all of D.Wade many star-skillz to guide KP, Gallo, and Grant youth talent into future winning talent. Having Wade at SG would give us a chance at letting Gallo play the point for longer periods a game, plus increase the 3rd option scorer with Wade pushing n passing.
Nice thread on Melo .. but i recall Melo receiving a 2 or 3 year advance for resigning!
I see KP increasing our chance at signing a veteran starter PG in the offseason, also in a starter PG wanting to be traded to the Knicks on the deadline .. it's the only reason i could figure on why Fisher been increasing Calderon playing time minutes, is to increase Calderon trading-value
I can only see a trade if we were one trade away from becoming a real contender. And we are not.
Don't see panic moves for the sake of playoffs. Phil would not want to send a message to KP that he's developing too slow, so we panic.
Phil is more likely to let this season play out, let KP get acquainted with the league, the teams, the players, the workload, the travel - and then see what kind of FA can be lured in over the summer.
meloanyk wrote:yellowboy90 wrote:Phil needs to trade Calderon while his efficiency is up.
Makes sense. I see Jackson making some change to roster with an eye towards tomorrow whether that be either acquiring a draft pick, a young developing player or clearing more room ala Calderon for a 16-17 free agent. Affalo, Calderon and Seraphan have all raised their trade value somewhat to on the cusp contenders. Galloway and Oquinn might net a marginal return. Wouldnt say Williams is untradeable but wouldnt be easy to move his overpayment. Could see Washington asking about Melo but see him staying put and Phil adding a third player next year via FA
HELLO the Clippers! Doc Rivers is a terrible GM and if there is any contender that would overpay in a trade to improve their bench, it'd be them. Give them Calderon, Seraphin and Early and take back a first rounder during the year the Clippers will miss the playoffs. To balance the deal money wise, I'd take back Lance Stephenson and their 2014 first round pick, CJ Wilcox. I'D IMMEDIATELY WAIVE STEPHENSON WHO IS JUST AN EXPIRER and then move on with my day.
