"Ford-Pelton: Andrew Wiggins, future MVP or the next Melo?"
It's a fair question. Will he be the next great NBA player or just really, really, really good?

Not to Wiggins! If your choice is to be a generational MVP talent, or just another HOFer wow... I could work with that.

you can put it in a positive light but the title was meant to take a shot at melo and it was not positive.

I don't see it as a shot. Melo wasn't an MVP-type player. There is no debating that. They are acknowledging him being great, but a step below the league's best. If it's meant to be a shot, it's not a very good one. Seems like just stating the obvious to me.

I get what you're saying (and I agree) but like mreinman said, it was not positive and a shot at Melo.
Yeah, only desperate Knicks fans would look at that title and think it was a compliment to Melo.
I'm not the biggest Melo fan but Wiggins has a long way to go just to get to Melo's level. Next MVP or Isiah Rider might have been a more accurate title.

They should rename Bristol, Connecticut Bristroll, am I right?
We must respond with strength, reason & dignity ASAP.

Although that may be the intention, my point is that's not how it comes out. Who would argue that Melo is more than what the article implies? Them indicating Melo is Wiggins floor is speaking pretty highly of Wiggins.

OK my bad but it's pretty gentle compared to what goes on here.

Well it's a very poor "shot" because how they describe Melo is spot on.
Its not about Melo. Its about Wiggins. When did saying a guy who has never won MVPs isnt an MVP caliber player become an insult? Saying your downside is a HOF player is pretty incredible. If this motivates Melo to win an MVP great. If Melo is ESPN's measuring stick for players who are HOF caliber but a notch below the MVP zone good for them. Who cares. Of all the shots ESPN takes at the Knicks this is pretty low on that totem pole

I would have clicked the article even if it said he was the next Travis Knight.

Fair enough. But I think they rag on Melo and the Knicks to get more engagement from Knicks fans - of which there are more of than most other teams. Also, a fair amount of the ESPN writers and staff are from the Northeast and actually are Knicks fans. And we know no one hates Melo more than a Knicks fan.
