Felton is a good back up on Dallas, as should Calderone be a good back up if we had a better alternative.I'd rather have 27 year old Rolo than Flue Tyson. To me this was the trade. Throw in Clearanthony who has yet to pan out (not looking good).
Second round picks are gambles and few stick.
Melo was not into Tyson, and visa versa.
Oh yeah, Tyson had to go once he and Melo started feuding. I think Phil made the decision to try to sign Melo, so Tyson had to be shipped.
It was sort of sad that he thought Dalembert could cover for Tyson though.
Or was surprised he even showed up to camp at all!!! Dude had a contract, I don't think sam was all that disappointing as he really didn't even try.
Same was cap fodder.

That move was forced on Glen Grunwald by CAA and it is why he quit. Bargnani was a CAA client and they convinced someone on the Knicks, probably Mills and Melo and Dolan, that Bargnani was the stretch 4 that could keep Melo at the 3 and that Bargnani just needed a change of scenery to blossom.
Ironically, it was the same thinking that led to the KP draft pick, which is part of the reason I disliked the idea at the time.
Grunwald was a very good GM though. He got sort of screwed over.
Do you know him personally? How come he's the only GM that got screwed over, but other GM's are trash?

That move makes his an epic failure. And the Billups amnesty was also a disaster.
Exactly. Forget about any other moves he made, those two things taint his legacy beyond reparation. The fact that an unprotected pick went out the window for Bargs is mind bendingly stupid. I can't even believe it really happened even after all these years. I just threw up a little in my mouth. Using the amnesty on Billups and not Amare was also inexcusable. It wasn't hard to see in the tea leaves that he was done. There were several articles at the time imploring they amnesty STAT. So dumb. F Grunwald. Bastard.

The thinking was coming off a 54 win season Bargnani could only help, and on a decent team he would not be that leaned on too much. The crime was not to protect the pick. What we know is Dolan was involved and did not know what he was doing. Grunwald have that kind of authority with a billion dollar franchise??

But that's the sort of situation I think having a leader in the organization like Phil - he would've been able to sit Melo and Lin down together and got it to work. At the time, there was no chain of command. Grunwald was the GM, Woodson the lame duck coach, Steve Mills was president of operations or something, Dolan was recording blues songs, Melo and CAA were trying to build a family. Too many different agendas. All of them could have meant well, but it was a mess. That's why the Phil era has been a breath of fresh air to me and I fear what'll happen once he moves on.

Donnie Walsh took over when Mills was let go post AnucaGate.
Mills was not hired until After Grunwald was fired.
Thus, mills had nothing to do with anything regarding Linsanity OR the Bargnani trade.

The CAA conspiracy ended when Phil came to town.
Gone must be any trades that is not protected. Between Eddy and Bargnani we can't have trades that add value to picks. The reason we trade is to get better, not WORSE!!!!!!
Can't blame Mills for this one.
Who drafted Bargnani? Bryan Colangelo.
Who was second pick? Aldridge. How Chicago get that pick? Eddy. Maybe Dolan thought "hey, I messed up but I can get the no. 1 pick from that year!!!!!!!
Who was third pick? Adam Morrision!!!!!4th, Tyus Thomas!!!!!5th, Sheldon Williams!!!!!!!6th, Brandon Roy
Rondo fell to 21st. Why???? google "Rondo personality disorder". Its not know he has one but the dude is not like others.
That and he could not shoot well in college.

There was little to no way to protect the pick. I was already subject to the Denver swap. Knicks getting a top 5 pick was highly unlikely already.

No, there was not.
