Exactly. Forget about any other moves he made, those two things taint his legacy beyond reparation. The fact that an unprotected pick went out the window for Bargs is mind bendingly stupid. I can't even believe it really happened even after all these years. I just threw up a little in my mouth. Using the amnesty on Billups and not Amare was also inexcusable. It wasn't hard to see in the tea leaves that he was done. There were several articles at the time imploring they amnesty STAT. So dumb. F Grunwald. Bastard.

The thinking was coming off a 54 win season Bargnani could only help, and on a decent team he would not be that leaned on too much. The crime was not to protect the pick. What we know is Dolan was involved and did not know what he was doing. Grunwald have that kind of authority with a billion dollar franchise??

But that's the sort of situation I think having a leader in the organization like Phil - he would've been able to sit Melo and Lin down together and got it to work. At the time, there was no chain of command. Grunwald was the GM, Woodson the lame duck coach, Steve Mills was president of operations or something, Dolan was recording blues songs, Melo and CAA were trying to build a family. Too many different agendas. All of them could have meant well, but it was a mess. That's why the Phil era has been a breath of fresh air to me and I fear what'll happen once he moves on.

Donnie Walsh took over when Mills was let go post AnucaGate.
Mills was not hired until After Grunwald was fired.
Thus, mills had nothing to do with anything regarding Linsanity OR the Bargnani trade.

Gone must be any trades that is not protected. Between Eddy and Bargnani we can't have trades that add value to picks. The reason we trade is to get better, not WORSE!!!!!!

There was little to no way to protect the pick. I was already subject to the Denver swap. Knicks getting a top 5 pick was highly unlikely already.
