Knicks · If we eventually trade Rolo... (page 1)

Knixkik @ 12/29/2015 11:41 AM
Seems like the common theme is he's not an ideal fit here. I think that changes slightly with a different PG, however, i also think KP changed everything with his ability to play center. With the way the league is headed, he will be eventually moved to center full-time and we will have a unique opportunity to put a team on the floor that will be a mismatch nightmare in a way that every team wants to play. Having a player like KP at center will make most teams envious, no doubt about it. But i don't think Rolo should be moved too soon. Definitely not this season, and definitely not for another center. We should use this season to evaluated if Lance Thomas does enough as a combo forward to receive a bigger contract this summer and become a starter next to Melo and KP. Or take next season to evaluate this lineup with a better PG. Or search for a stretch-4 that becomes available in the offseason. Plenty of options, and fortunately Rolo will remain solid value for what he brings to a team. For now i think we need to keep things the way they are in the frontcourt, but it's become clear that KP is our center of the future.

How do you trade a guy making $14mil per for 4 hrs when you can get more production for the same 20mins a game from a guy making league minimum?

Agreed, but i think for now it offers a chance to see different lineups and keep our guy's minutes low. You don't want Rolo playing more than 24 mpg anyways. I think Lance and O'Quinn have both played as well or better than Rolo, but i think it's a good problem to have. We have talked about Lance a lot, but O'Quinn has quietly been very impressive as well.

Well Ro Lo is shooting 57.5% from the field in December with a TS% of 60. His scoring is trending upwrd as he has taken out his jumper. If this continues he should be a prime candidate to trade at the deadline if the knicks feel as if that is something they want to do.

Trading Ro Lo for the sake of trading him is silly. He is a valuable player if used correctly and is still valuable when used in this offense.

gunsnewing @ 12/29/2015 1:20 PM
KOQ AND SERAFIN have been awful as well. Maybe a better coach can get more out of the 3 of them. The arguement for signing Lolez was that there was cap money left to sign the other 2 and collectively they been an embarrassment.

I still think Derrick was worth the gamble. I still like Afflalo unless we get Batum. He is an average NBA player but above average when it comes to guards around the league. He and the rest of the team will benefit greatly from a PG other than Calderon & Galloway.

Some of these moves Phil have made have been atrocious especially the Tyson for Calderon trade and the Lopez signing. Really shows his inexperience as GM/President despite all his knowledge of basketball and hall of fame credentials.

I was estatic at the start of free agency we we signed Affalo. I thought for sure Greg Monroe was next. Settling for a Stegosaurus/ lumbering Lopez was a huge shocker and a slap in the face to the fans who invested so much hope in finally having cap space again after the Amare debacle

The problem with lopez is the contract, we overpaid bigtime after missing out on better players like monroe and aldrige

I think you're over reacting some. The difference between the Amare signing and the Rolo signing and all the other signings is that Rolo and all the others we signed are all on tradeable contracts and Amare wasn't.
mreinman @ 12/29/2015 2:55 PM
rolo is the only guy that we have that can set a pick

I guess you can argue that.

Generally speaking, most all above average free agents move teams at a price, and I think that goes more for big men. We would have overpaid bigtime for Monroe too, right? What has Monroe done for the Bucks so far? And he comes at a more expensive contract.

Aldridge was never coming and I am not sure I would want to pay him for 4 years of service starting at 30 years old.

Who else was out there at a reasonable price that was starter material? Anyone who offers up Cole Aldrich can go suck-it, that answer is for pansy's and should be properly laughed at.

Rolo has definitely under-performed IMO.

Good info. I knew he was shooting better but didn't realize it was that dramatic.

I think O'Quinn has actually been pretty good. He needs a more consistent role. The rotation really messes with these guys.

Maybe last game but his advanced stats show he's been very solid this season in a number of areas.

for every one good pass he makes he makes 3 really boneheaded plays that blow your mind.

I think that he still can be a decent player.

if we actually ran a lot pf pick and roll instead of forcing him to be our shaq, hs play would be tremendously helpful too us.

thats true martin. I didnt expect to get him for cheap but 14 million per year for his abilities is a steep price even with the cap going up

definetly. Nobody is gonna take that contract without us taking back a similarly bad one back

we do run some PnR obviously.

So, here is the thing for me: How much do you run some post play for Rolo? Does he get a chance? No chance? Learning curve? 10-20 games and give up?

When and where and how do players learn if they can't have some leeway to fail? Is he trying to do the right things and can't? Getting better? Not doing anything?

What lines do you draw?
