2 more D League players the Knicks could be looking at
G – Elliot Williams, Santa Cruz Warriors:
It seems as though Williams is the most likely player to be called-up at some point this season since he’s the No. 1 D-League prospect, according to the league’s rankings. It should come as no surprise then that Williams is leading the D-League in scoring at 28.1 points per game. He’s also adding 7.1 assists, 5.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting an even 50 percent from the field. Williams figures to be one of the most scouted players this week when the D-League Showcase kicks off on Wednesday. Each of the 19 D-League teams will be playing two games over the five-day showcase, giving players plenty of chances to catch the eye of potential teams.
G – Sean Kilpatrick, Delaware 87ers:
Kilpatrick seems to be right behind Williams in terms of players poised to earn a call-up. Kilpatrick ranks as the No. 2 prospect in the D-League, and is tied for second in scoring with 26.1 points per game. On his resume this season is a 45-point outing at the beginning of December where he knocked down 6-of-8 shots from three-point range. He’s hitting 3.3 three-pointers per game and is converting on 45 percent of those shots. It’s possible Kilpatrick could earn a call-up from the 76ers at some point. Although the Sixers already have 15 players on their team, several of those players are on non-guaranteed deals and could be cut by the deadline this weekend, which could open up a spot for Kilpatrick.
Kilpatrick is from Yonkers for those of you who like rooting for the home town kid

Yes, yes, yes. I have said this repeatedly.
I don't know how you do it (without discouraging Grant too much), but if you bring Fredette up then you gotta put him in as the rotation PG with 10 minutes a game and give him a chance.
Treat him like a top 10 draft pick and see if he delivers.
The chances that he is a fit for the Triangle are too promising to lose by messing with this head. Try him and see . . .

Are we willing to sacrifice wins to see what he has?
Honest question - I'm not sure where I stand on it. And I do worry it'd mess with Grant's head. And Jose has been solid lately.

I wouldn't worry about the wins. Fredette is not likely to be worse than Grant.
I agree to worry about Grant's confidence.
Still, it's business and Grant has only himself to blame.
Really . . . no one can say that Grant hasn't been given a chance.
Now Fredette (and the Knicks) need that chance.
Can't we sign jimmer and put grant down in westChester on assignment... I think getting 30 plus minutes a night might do wonders for grant and his confidence.

and all 3 are 26 or older and haven't been able to stick in the league but excel at the D league level...I would rather sign a youngster with big upside who can be brought along and developed rather then a retread who can't stick in the NBA. I've already mentioned Wroten, and I think it was Briggs who mentioned Christian Wood. Knicks need to find another gem and polish it.

Sounds good in theory . . . but that's a big hit to Grant.
The NBA ought to be more like that, though -- like MLB.

Agreed, some players could really turn out to be a lot better with more playing time... I'm surprised more teams are not using their d league to develop their rookies that just ride the pine or see little pt

Grant looked really good last game against Atlanta though. Maybe he's turning a corner? I think Grant's development is by far the more important agenda item than taking a flier on Fredette.

Well said. In the long run, Grant will undoubtedly prove to be the better prospect.

That's valid - we don't really know. Would you be willing to risk sacrificing games right now to find out? If Fredette is worse, we may lose some games we otherwise would've won.
I wouldn't mind signing him to a 10-day for the upcoming stretch of:
Sunday 1/10 - Bucks
Tuesday 1/12 - Celtics
Wednesday 1/13 - Nets
Saturday 1/16 - Grizz
Monday 1/18 - Sixers
Some games in there he could potentially get minutes. I don't think anyone they sign now is gonna play much on the upcoming three game road trip through Atlanta, Miami, San Antonio - though there will probably be some blow out losses in the last two games... but I doubt they'd debut any new guy on the road like that...

I definitely don't mind sacrificing the whole season (other then the nausea when Toronto picks).
Either way, we need another guard and Grant can/should still get PT.

you never heard that from me. Two completely different players in terms of their mental make up. Grant looks to have the toughness and grit to succeed. I was never high on Hardaway. I did not smoke the hardaway...ok, maybe once in college but I didn't inhale!
fitzfarm wrote:I think jimmer has never had a opportunity in this league. He's probably loving his time in the d league it's the most he's played since byu. And his shooting numbers are showing his confidence. If jimmer can contribute as a back up to Jose. It moves Gallo to his real position as a back up 2. Have grant as the 3rd pg because you don't know if your going to get vintage Jose or old man no defense Jose. Then jimmer and grant can man the pg.The way the jimmer can score and shoot we should bring him up and give him a run. If it works then we move Jose at the trade deadline .. I feel jimmer is head over heels a upgrade over Jose at this point in Josie's carreer. They are both great shooters jimmer is more aggressive with shooting and he can take it to the hole . There is no way he can be worse then Jose on defense NO WAY . Jose is lucky we have Lopez and KP because on any given night his opponent can get to the paint at will. Jimmer a defense looks much improved since being in the d league..
Give jimmer a shot he can't be as bad as Jose I know Jose has had some vintage games of late but how long will that last.
Well, Phil is well aware of the PGs lack of production; so let's see what he does during the next few days. I sure as hell hope that he give that New York product a chance to shine

It's actually not a zero sum game. You always want to look to upgrade your talent and Fredette doesn't mean you don't develop Grant. If anything if Jimmer succeeds it makes Jose more expendable.

Grant and THJR are two completely different players. Not saying that Grant blows up into someone like Teague but he is a much better player and has more potential than Thjr ever will.
