Knicks · Our team size has bothered teams (page 1)

You can see it opposing players have to change the way they shoot it. Even guys like D will Thomas Carmelo are all 6-8

Imagine if acquiring long guys was on purpose?

It's a great thing we have going because as teams have gotten smaller to help change with the times, KP has provided the unique ability to have a good defender at the PF position who is 7'3. He will eventually be a center, but for now if you don't have him and you want to keep up with today's NBA, you have to play Melo, DWill, or Lance at the 4 because you need a player at that position who can stretch the floor without giving up a ton on the defensive end. So naturally teams are moving to bigger SF's to play the 4 and calling them stretch-4s. KP is like a bigger small forward, just 7'3.

this is why it's such a joke the league is obsessed with small ball.

this era will be looked back at as a joke. remember when every team thought it was good to avoid having big, tall players? hahaha

It's one thing to do it because you simply have a small team. But to go out of your way to make yourself small would seem to be a mistake. I don't really see that teams are doing that per se. IMO the Stretch 4 or 5 is a much sought after type of player and especially if they can defend. I like that Phil LOVES size and looks to build teams with good size. He's also aware that you want bigs that can MOVE. That's the best of both worlds having size that is quick and mobile so you can defend any style of team.

One of the things I mentioned about the reason Phil liked the Triangle is that it allowed him to play big. He runs an offense that is designed to work with multiple post players and is easy to defend out of the offense. So he has his teams ready for playoff style ball cuz that's how they play all year. The Knicks will not have any issues with the slower pace of the playoffs. They already run an offense that works even if you can't get a lot of fast breaks.

Small ball has been around for a long time. GS Revolutionized it by winning a recent championship with it, but most teams around the league are small

MDA's Phoenix team was a prime recent example of a particularly small starting team.

Yeah remember when GS won using it? Haha funny times.
crzymdups @ 1/7/2016 6:06 PM
Phil has always liked big teams.

Lakers frontline in the Kobe years was Bynum 7'1" Gasol 7'0" Odom 6'10"

crzymdups @ 1/7/2016 6:06 PM
I agree with the folks who have been saying that you can see Rolo / KP / Melo developing into an elite frontline.
nyknickzingis @ 1/7/2016 6:18 PM
It's not just about being big. It's about wingspan with quick feet. The Knicks have guys who are long armed, and relatively quick feet. That makes them a very talented defensive team. They are still not disciplined as much as they could be. And with Afflalo/Calderon, instead of Galloway/Grant, there's far more defensive potential off the bench than starting.

yeah ... we will look back and laugh at the warriors ... LMFAO LOL LOL

nyknickzingis @ 1/7/2016 11:24 PM
Not just about being big - it's about having wingspan and quick feet. GST has elite rim protection with Bogut - and he's big. Green plays fantastic defense and moves his feet really well. Same with Iguodala, Barnes to an extent as well. But it's their offense that's just on a different level. I do think if the Cavs had a bigman that could actually hurt them in the Finals, they would have taken it. The Grizzlies were up 2-1 against them and don't have anywhere near the talent of the Warriors. The Warriors will have a tough time this year in the playoffs against the Spurs or OKC, I think. And the Cavs with Love will be a different match up. That said, the Warriors are fantastic to watch and I wouldn't laugh them off at all. Any era, they're damn good and a contender.

I read somewhere that Greg Monroe is 100x bigger than Rolo...

that was last year...not sure if you have noticed but they did give the backup center 10 more mins this year and bogut is playing 20 mins a game as well...that will go up.

they are doing better this year...not because they decided to go smaller.
probably because defenses are being even more honest with them on the perimeter.
if i recall, bogut is up there in efficiency this year. that helps curry and klay

I LOL'd. Remember when size didn;t matter and the same Briggs pronounced the Knicks as being not quick enough in the new "smallball" NBA paradigm?

knicks1248 @ 1/8/2016 1:39 PM
Just mention this in the game thread. If Rolo would step out and defend the bigs who can shoot from the perimeter more frequently we would be even better defensively

if he steps out, who protects the rim when our guards get beat?
