This^
Difference tonight was Parker versus Jose. Parker penetrates and creates. Jose hesitates and shoots long
It's a glaring weakness along with having only Afflalo as a true SG! We need 2 more guards! A speedy breakdown PG and a SG that can also defend!
I'd be happy w even a defensive PG

Knicks play like this against 98% of teams they win! This was even with major disadvantage at PG!!! If Phil can somehow upgrade the PG spot it would make a HUGE difference!
Knicks play to the level of their competition....Thats why this win was so important to steal. KP was hyped up because he knows the Spurs are the best team. Aflalo and Melo was too hyped up, which is why there started off 1-6 and 2-12
Even with that terrible shot percentage, we still had a chance to win. Maybe it will feel better in the morning....But I don't like any loses, especially the ones we should've won!

the spacing was horrible, the shot was hot potato-ish and the shot was not in rhythm/rushed
I agree, I didn't like the spacing. But a timeout does not guarantee anything better than what we had.
as i have said: it's mighty hard to prevent a 7'3" athlete from going to the hoop for a lob and NOT get fouled. as it is, that azzhole aldridge hooked kp's leg on claderon's shot for a blatant loose ball foul.

Yes if we can upgrade the pg spot we would be playoff bound for sure who is on the block we can get, Jennings ?
... Not upset with the last shot Jose can shoot .. But Gallo has hands of ice and I wouldn't be surprised if Gallo hits the game winner if given the chance.

Yep.
Also, folks need to realize that the Knicks, particularly the much maligned Fisher and Melo, are smart enough to exploit match ups - tonight KP was the one to exploit. Against Atlanta it was AAA. Against Miami it was Rolo. Melo was finding these mismatches. Fisher was directing it. They're playing smart on offense right now. Very smart.
I'll be curious to see the Spurs post game quotes.
crzymdups wrote:Win or lose - Melo built some trust with his teammates on that last play.A few weeks ago a lot of guys here were crucifying Melo for taking a contested shot against Rondo and the Kings on last possession (one where he was also clearly fouled in the act, btw)
If we have a PG that would take control then any late game play at least has a floor general to make sure we get a great look! MELO isn't a PG and he shouldn't be trying to create game winning shots! The glaring need has to be addressed!
crzymdups wrote:somehow missed this during the game... probably too busy posting here... KP is hilarious.
Not easy to do, either... and it was done so casually.
He might be a better athlete than I thought.
I missed it, too.

Let's be clear.
We want Calderon on this team.
Just not at starting PG.
But . . . where do we get a starting PG (?)
"In Phil We Trust"
What else can we do (?)
dk7th wrote:gunsnewing wrote:dk7th wrote:fisher screwed up that game. we could have used that last time out and run the lob play to kp again. instead it's give it to melo.
San Antonio best defense in the league. Smartest team and coach in the league. They would've defended against the KP lob this time. Trust me. A JV high school team would've known to keep the 7'3 KP away from the basket. Chances are Melo would've wound up with the ball anyway and with the Spurs setting up their D they would've forced another 30ft heave
but that's just it-- you can't keep an agile 7'3" athlete away from the basket WITHOUT FOULING HIM
Chances are even if KP is mauled the officials, these particular officials are not calling the foul against the Spurs in San Antonio. And they didn't as KP was mauled by Aldridge off the ball. No sense in playing what ifs here. Jose got a open albeit rushed corner 3 he probably hits 6 out of 10 times but that's the best look you are getting against the leagues top defense and smartest team

Just for perspective, NO ONE has beaten the Spurs at home! The Knicks almost pulled it off by inches! As long as the Knicks keep playing like this they will completely change their season!
I don't mind Jose starting but don't wanna see him to finish out games... Has nothing to do with the last shot... Jose's defense just killed us tonight ... He did not have a vintage game tonight...

I agree. I watched it 3 more times. That was the best shot. Jose needed to hit it. He usually does. Great game though.
nixluva wrote:blkexec wrote:We need a star player that can get to the rim, and draw a foul. It's that simple. But we don't have that right now. But we do have a tall 7'3 player, who only needs a second for a pick and a lob pass. It's either and 1 or a foul on the way up. KP is light in the ass and would look like he got killed on that lob pass.Giving the ball to Melo at the half court line, on a panic pass by Galo like it was a hot potatoe was not the right play to run, when down by 1 point. Come on guys....We blew a great chance at winning this game....It's that simple. Yes, we have lots of holes on defense to fix. Yes, we knew that before the season started. That doesn't excuse the no time out call at the end of this game......over 85% of the coaches in this league would've called a timeout. Fisher was undecided!
I can understand your point but it's one game and I'm sure a learning experience for the whole team. More than a time out we need an upgrade at PG! Someone who can take control of the team rather than give it to MELO all the time.
I agree 100% with you and all the other optimistic fans.
This just brings out the competitor in me, when we have a game we can win, and we lose. Especially against a top team like the Spurs. Some might not want to hear this, but I think if it was brandon Jennings with the ball in his hands, instead of Gallo, we would've won this game. Instead of Jose, we would've won this game. Oh well......
I think it's just me that believes we can play better than what we are seeing right now....And it's only the simple things thats in our way. I text my boy and said, if the knicks had me and my boy at the guard position, Parker and Ginobli wouldn't have drove to the cup so easy.....And we are not NBA guards....You don't need a star player to have lateral quickness and defensive IQ. Thats what we are lacking, during close out games like this. Jimmer isn't the answer....We need defensive guards....I was hoping Grant would be that guard to fill that void. And I still think he can be.
Can someone give me a recap missed this one had to work. NY lost by a point and had a chance to win it against the best home team in the league. I take that as an achievement in terms of how far we've come. A year ago this wasn't even a consideration. Grant is also looking like he's playing better. We're 1 impact player away from being a contender, in my opinion.
Someone give me a recap if they can, please.

But when you have a chance to make a real statement and win a game, thats what ticks me off.
I don't know if Melo gets a pass on that play. He's making max money and what he did is something Grant could've done. And you know what, if Grant did that same pass, I think Jose would've made the shot.....You know why? When Grant has the ball, everybody is waiting for the pass so they can shoot.
When Melo has the ball, everybody is looking at the rim to see if it's going in.
Wow....This was a typical Good Bad game. Good for the team....Bad for the fans!
Yup we are having a really hard time shaking that habit. New Year, new Roster, same ol situation and this falls on Melo for not sticking to this new Phil Jackson system from dayone. And Fisher for enabling him up til a few weeks ago. I don't blame Fisher though. He is learning on the job. So fisher's next point of emphasis needs to be what to do and were to go in late game situations
Nevertheless . . . if Knicks can win 2 of next 3 they'll be at .500 at half-way point of season.
Go for it (!)

I like Jose but he's not supposed to be a starter at this point in his career! We MUST upgrade the PG spot and add another SG too. Can't depend on AA as the only true SG! Phil needs to get this done. Knicks are not far off from the better teams if you could upgrade the PG!

Great game.
Knicks were up 9 in first half.
Then down by 10 late in 4th.
Went on 11-2 or something run to close within 1.
Then triple-teamed Melo passed to open Calderon for wining shot at buzzer . . . and it didn't fall.
