Knicks · two questions one thread. (page 2)

good topic.

LT will be a challenge. Landry Fields got almost 7mill/year and LT is playing better than Landry was, and the cap is bigger now

i have to imagine we get a discount because of the trust and opportunity provided to him but we need to be close to the market number

2. LT isn't going anywhere, he'll command $4 mill money...OAQ money...he is fundamentally sound, but i suspect playoff basketball could find him being neutralized, where a Derek williams can leverage his athleticism to succeed... I think LT Stays though, we are building something and Phil and Fish know his value.

Other questions:
- Does Pau opt out and come to the knicks?

In 2017-18 you mean?

He doesn't possess that option for 2016-17

I think he has a player out after this season.

He may of wanted to opt out earlier in the season when things weren't going so well for the Bulls but they've become a strong team over the last 3/4 weeks.

Something still seems off with that team. No camaraderie. They don't seem to like each other much at all. Cap goes up to $90M this year - Pau's been an all-star two years in a row in Chicago... think he could opt out for one last big contract.

jrodmc @ 1/12/2016 1:53 PM
Did someone mention we already won more than 17 games?

Melo playing like this and making the playoffs is making me happy enough.

LT will get what the market allows, probably somewhere else. IMHO, I don't think Phil is going to pay a premium for a one hit bench wonder, no matter how much he's hyped around the league.
Good for LT either way; hard work and 1500 jumpers a day make for a nice story.

Pau Gasol is on my don't-speak-to list (which I'm sure bothers him a lot . . .).

He didn't show any loyalty to Phil Jackson and Triangle Culture.

So screw him, is what I say. . .

Heh, my bad... I read it as "Paul" not "Pau".

Sorry, I'm a last name guy.

I disagree. I think that playoff ball is much better suited for LT than DWil.

I'm in this boat. DWill played scared against Spurs for the most part. Lacked the necessary intensity to play every minute with force.

Dwil makes me worry about seeing another playoffs JR

Yeah he's kind of soft and seems like a player who would fold. BUT, I'll give him a chance to turn that around the second half of the year

Even though they share some of the same qualities they are still to different people. I think Williams will handle himself better off the court but might have some nerves since it would be his 1st taste of the playoffs. Williams struggle against the spurs because it hasn't clicked that he has the size to bang with anyone. I think it is great that he is surrounded by Melo and lance. He has two different players to spung off of. If D.Will returns after an off-season training with them to he could make a giant leap.

The two guys DWill makes me think of the most are JR and Tim Thomas. Not exactly inspiring Knicks of Christmas Past.

His defense has actually improved a lot recently, so hopefully he can keep it going. He's got all the talent in the world, but he just seems like one of those guys who is not all the way focused during games.

DWil has surprised and impressed the hell out of me lately. But I need to see that his brain can hold up in the playoffs.

I have a feeling that he probably understands the offense the least compared to his teammates. He is a freak athlete that is playing well but he still seems lost. And, I am sure they dumb it down for him a lot.

Strikes me as a reasonably intelligent guy. What are you observing that suggests different?

fishmike @ 1/12/2016 2:46 PM
dont worry about DWIll.. he's a bench player. JR was the #2 scoring option. Big difference.

Not sure who DWill reminds me of, but I do know he's getting better all the time.

While it sounds nice to have massive money to spend the best is in house. Let me tell you nobody should be disappointed if we spend our FA money on Lance and DWill. Both are showing great upside in this system. We have won some big games of late. If this trend continues and we win 45+ (seemed impossible 2 weeks ago right?) than paying to keep those guys is money well spent. DWill is 24... same age as Cleanthony (wow). Late bloomer?

fishmike @ 1/12/2016 2:47 PM
I was just checking the Knick's team stats. DWill is 2nd (essentially tied with Melo) for the team lead in WS/48

yes. extremely impressive. He is extremely efficient in what they ask him to do.

I dont really see that in the #s. His shooting stats are not great by any means. What is pushing that #?
WaltLongmire @ 1/12/2016 3:08 PM
If we make the playoffs and Anthony's metamorphosis continues he could be in the 3-5 range, which would be a pretty big thing.

Thomas is a Brooklyn born boy...right, and he's making it big in his home town.

He's also in a system of ball that seems to suit him, with a coach who really trusts him. Hopefully he and the Knicks both see the benefits of a continued relationship.

The $15M for 3 years, more or less, seems about right, IMO.

his TS is 54 which is pretty good and his rebounding is pretty good for a SF (when he is playing SF). There are lots of other things that go into the formula.

Here's an article on Lance and how we could lose him.
