Knicks · Araton: Porzingis's health more important than making playoffs (page 1)

We've got Derrick Williams, Lance Thomas, O'Quinn. While Porzingis has been great, PF is one position that we are actually very strong in. In contrast Melo, because he also creates shots for teammates in a guard role now with the Triangle, has far less depth behind him. Even if Porzingis misses a few games or has to be limited in terms or minutes, I can see us manage. But Melo has to keep moving the ball and playing like he did before this most recent game.

This is the NBA and KP has shown he can handle the load. this is not some lumbering giant but a fleet of foot athlete.

No doubt care would be taken and they sat him as a precaution.
He is also a draw who people are paying to see as evident by Knicks being the "5th most interesting team" in a recent ranking.

Also evident that Nalod got some tickets to see Knicks in Charlotte this coming weekend. I hope he is well and can play!!!!

Rick DiPietro on ESPN radio expressed some concern about the foot injury...also said that x-rays don't show everything. Said he did not like KP's reaction when he first put weight on it. His comment as a former pro-athlete carries more weight with me.

I don't see why the Knicks would not get his foot tested today as a precautionary measure.

KP is a competitor and a gamer...not sure I go by his internal interpretation of the injury- I would want outside testing of some sort.

Pretty clear to most of us that KP6 has become a franchise foundational player for the Knicks...have to treat this kind of injury in a serious manner, IMO.

I agree, but it is also clear that at this point in the season, just before the all-star break, players are suffering from various injuries, mostly minor. KP has held up well and seems to have a minor foot injury and a minor shoulder injury. He is not 100%, just like 99% of players logging major minutes in the nba right now.

Not that concerned with nagging injuries and pain, but an athlete's feet are his future, and if a BB player's foot is talking I don't want to know what its saying...I want to know why.

yeah there've been way too many players over the years whose feet have been their demise. you can't be too careful what with plantar fasciitis, etc. "The human foot has 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments, 19 muscles and tendons. The 52 bones in your feet make up about 25 percent of all the bones in your body." Feet issues are the most problematic.

KP calling it a bone bruise.
Don't see him playing tomorrow. And even if he wants to, I don't think they should. If a guy is having pain walking, a guy like him, sit his butt down.

Hope Fish keeps a tight rotation even with this.

Lopez/O'Quinn
Williams/Thomas
Melo/Afflalo
Afflalo/Galloway
Calderon/Grant

Gonna have to go 10 guys deep, but no need to experiment further. Utah's a decent team, but we're at home and we should win games like this if we're serious about being a playoff team - even without our 2nd best player in KP.

Not too worried about a bruise, to be honest.

If it can't get worse, this is a situation where you play through the pain or give him a shot of something.

More of a problem for his jumper than his D, IMO.

Unless they're lying about the actual problem, I would not mind him giving it a shot.

From KP, himself:

"I want to play through the pain. I’m going to have to play through the pain. It just depends if it’s a smart decision long term or what. That’s what the team is worried about.”

KP's shooting 3's and warming up.
Look like he's going to give it a go. Not sure this is the best idea.

KP is 7'3". He isn't getting any small and maybe will get bigger.

He plays a sport in which he runs and jumps in close proximity to 9 other sets of feet, not including the refs.

My advice would be to not spend the next 15 years looking in the rearview mirror waiting for the other walking boot to fall.

That doesn't sound like much fun at all.

you have to play the percentages with injury, especially with the advances of diagnostics and record-keeping. this increases predictive power, ie in the right hands you can preserve as well as prolong careers. hence the "delicate balance" araton alludes to in the article.

and playoffs are not important. a nice accomplishment but more likely than not a first round sweep but whoever the knicks would face. where is the value in that? fool's gold.
