Later for the OT loss ...I like this Knicks team without Melo in the rotation
How Clyde put it ...these Knicks players came out to compete !!!!
magicTs wrote:New York Giants. New York Knicks. How good would both be in the 2016-16 season without 4th quarters!!!God would I love to see Durrant beside KP and Melo at MSG next October.
KD should think about it this way.
He can struggle to get to the Finals every year trying to beat GST and Spurs, and an emerging Clipper team. Or he can come to the East and he's guaranteed a top 2 seed virtually every year and most likely able to be in the Finals. Once you're in the Finals, anything can happen.
With KD we're immediately the 2nd best team in the East, with a great chance at being the best as Porzingis, Grant and Gallo could all be better next season. I don't think he sees it this way, but he'd be a great fit in the Triangle. Everytime you've seen a player of Melo/Durant's skills paired up in the Triangle it has worked wonders.
Doubt it happens.

We certainly been the best in the league at blowing 4th double digit leads and the main reason is all the 4th quarter play-calling & isos. Been an issue for the past 4yrs
Without knowing if the stats back this up there certainly seems some truth to this
There Are a lot of scenarios I can see where we'd be more effective I. 4th, eg, attack the rim.
We are near top in ft%. We get them in penalty sooner. Perhaps force foul outs of key player. I am happy they competed tonight but am beginning to think fisher is like mark Jackson. A very good coach. But not championship timber. I hope I'm wrong

Some of you need to wake up and find a basketball IQ. Fisher just caoched a great game and brought us to OT against OKC without Melo. Great coaching job.
i am sorry but how many iso affalo did we see play after play after play in the last 5 mins of 4th quarter. i mean are you kidding me that he coached a good game...its not how you start...it's how you finish
coaches coach and players are supposed to execute. afflalo is not executing what the coach is play calling.
Fisher's team consistently plays well when he gets some practice time with them. The missed shot at the end of regulation was a good shot. Overall a tough night for Afflalo.

Just over here in radioland but wasn't there some guard who came off OKC's bench and hit four threes? Who was that?
payne
Thanks. Seemed like he single handedly took the lead away.
this loss is burning me up as much as the san antonio loss. this is how you build your rep, not by beating some middle of the pack or back of the pack teams!
this AND spurs loss...both absolutely on fisher!

Payne? He has beat out Augustine for the backup point guard spot.

He coached a good game until crunch time. Force feeding AA in a game where he is shooting 5 for 19 is not good coaching. Every timeout the play ran went straight to AA in the post.
Yea definitely not one of Fishers finest coaching performances. Phil can't be to thrilled

so why put him into the game!!!!!
Yeah....
You can't do the same thing over again and expect a different outcome..It is insane.
WP76 wrote:Cartman718 wrote:WP76 wrote:I don't put this one on Fisher. Players gotta make shots and our designated "go to" guy in this game came up small.
yes, but who called his number over and over and over again...miss after miss
Again, like Riley did with Starks once upon a time. Coaches go with their gut. AA makes one of those shots and this conversation is completely different. Who's to say another player would've done any better? We don't and it's pure second guessing since the result wasn't what we wanted.
Since when did Afflalo become a clutch player or scorer .. Afflalo career is more inconsistent than JRsmith
Last year Portland was mad as hell for trading for Afflalo on the deadline LMAO

very well said, as usual crush. agree completely. i find it amazing how much people try and blame coaching. afflalo hits shot as executed, the knicks win. fisher drew up a perfect play for afflalo, he got a good look and he didn't make it.
Afflalo was the most aggressive player. That's part of why he got the ball. That's a place where KP has to step up and say "ME". He was getting far better looks than AA. If Melo is out there, ball goes to Melo in those situations as he'd be the most aggressive. KP came out aggressive as heck in this game, but then as Fish went more with Seraphin/Williams, Porzingis just sat out and didn't seem in rhythm when he came back in.
That said, it's imperative that the Knicks don't use a 2 guard in the Triangle who doesn't know how to see an open teammate. Afflalo has tunnel vision when he plays, and it's not something that works well as a core player. He's great for the bench. Pretty much been saying this all season. Grant/Galloway/Calderon are enough at PG. The Tri doesn't ask for more than what you get from those 3. It's about defense, and when Grant/Galloway get more experienced we're far more set at the PG spot than people realize because of their defensive ability (As opposed to Calderon, who isn't able to defend).
The posting up is also something this team needs to be careful with. It should be their last resort in offense, not first. They should go to the post up or iso when they can't get anything else. Instead they dump the ball in for an iso very early at times, and that's a huge mistake.
I do commend Fish, however, for permitting a little bit less of the triangle. It definitely benefited a couple of our players and helped to keep us in the game..

We could ands should have won this game. The last four possessions in regulation with AA isolating are the reasons why we lost. Who do you blame ??? Some of you will kill AA, but as a coach, when you called two TOs and drew the same play to feed the same dude who missed in the previous two possessions, you have to assume some of the blames
Agreed..surprisingly.
I do see growth in Fisher and I hope he uses this game as a teaching moment.4 possessions for the same guy was too freaking much.
mreinman wrote:gunsnewing wrote:Knicks1969 wrote:Some want to blame AA, but it is fisher's job to dictate who the ball should go to on offense. Right after TO, he ran the same play
I hope to god you are wrong because if Fisher is calling these plays we might as well re-hire Michael J. Woodson. At least we'd be better defensively. This team can't stop anyone. Not even bad teams
of course he called those plays. Can't believe there are posters that think this is/may not be the case
Yea you are right especially like Knicks1969 said. Same play drawn up twice right out of a timeout
nyknickzingis wrote:SocraticBallin22 wrote:AA shot us out of the game in OT. Oh well. Team played great without Melo. Can't really be too upset.
Yes and no.
AA has tunnel vision.
This is an offense where all 5 players have to pass.
He has a complete pass to gun, and not even look at making a pass. No other player, even Melo, is held to that standard.
I've been saying for a few weeks. AA is a great bench guy. We need a starting 2 that passes the ball and scores. Everyone wants a PG, and Grant/Galloway have shown again and again they can play there - most important defend there.
But to have a 2 in the Triangle or the type of offense we run who plays so one dimensional is an issue. I don't mind he is aggressive. I mind that he doesn't look to pass when guys are wide open. Once he has the ball he doesn't even think about any kind of open teammate. That's idiotic basketball.
Definitely coming around to this line of thinking. I thought he'd keep the seat warm for an upgrade like Batum but he is killing this team and the style of play they are trying to establish with his tunnel vision

Some fair points here.
Afflalo was frankly the only one who didn't look hesistant to score, if the other guys are unsure of themselves, then the potential of them turning the ball over and/or forcing a bad shot increases.
That said, I think Fisher could have drawn up a better play that got more people involved. I felt we should have exploited Westbrooks eager ness to double team to hit an open man...

Damn you had to remind us of the Giants. Both teams do everything possible to lose winnable games. They are very good at it
