Knicks · Are the Knicks looking past Grant as next PG?? (page 1)

Pretty good article about Grant and what we might do at PG but Grant's numbers are scary looking.

Too early to write Grant off. Most point guards struggle in their rookie years. Jeff Teague and Mike Conley come to mind as rookies who were underwhelming in their first year. I think the front office made a mistake by not getting a veteran who can defend the PG spot in the off season.
reub @ 2/3/2016 3:10 PM
We shouldn't write off Grant but we can't play him in meaningful games. He was a minus 17 last night against Boston in just 7 minutes of play! Time to bring up Jimmer!

So you're saying he's gonna be our starter next year?? I think he's gonna take much longer than that but hope i'm wrong. I think we should sign J.Crawford in the off season cause he can play both guard spots and we can probably get him to sign a 1 year deal if not 1 then 2 and if Grant will ever be ready to start it will be in 1 or 2 years which would work perfectly with having Crawford. If Grant is ready in 1 year then Crawford can play with him at SG or become our 6th man like he is now.
Clean @ 2/3/2016 3:15 PM
I think he can still be PG of the future but he will be useless until he can hit an open shot. Everything else in his game will open up once defenders are forced to guard him closer.

Starter? Never said that. I'd like him too at least be a backup tho.

Well, we are not even at the halfway mark. He needs to start hitting his shot and then with some confidence he form some continuity. Right now, things are just not working out well.
I'd like to see him get 20 minutes a night for a 5 games or so in a row. Let him play through some of his problems.

Maybe send him down and bring up Jimmer a few games. We do not look like a playoff team right now and the season is going to get longer. Let's see what we got. Move on from Jose...

knicks1248 @ 2/3/2016 4:18 PM
The knicks could acquire john Stockton in his prime and make him look super avg in the triangle. They would never run pick and roll and force him to run screen and rolls (which is not the same thing) and have him avg like 5 ast pg.

No pg on the planet will be consistent in this system

We're already past the halfway point.

We have a D League--a minor league system. Are the Knicks that arrogant that they cant send him down for a 5 game stretch to play 40 minutes to see if he cab
A. Gain confidence?
B. Gain game rhythm?
C. Work on his perimeter shot in a game situation?
D. Be given the keys to the team for 40 minutes?

What pray tell is wrong with 5 games in the D league?

Rookie @ 2/3/2016 5:02 PM
"The triangle also doesn't naturally yield pick-and-roll opportunities like a typical, modern NBA offense, which limits Grant's ability to affect the game. This neuters his best asset: court vision. Moving him off the ball—where triangle point guards spend far more of their time than most players at the position do these days—emphasizes his greatest weakness (shooting) at the same time."

This might explain why we play better in the throwback uni's. Guards do not want to play here. Good luck with signing Conley and whoever else because they aren't coming here ever.

Is Briggs too arrogant to comprehend that he ain't smarter than Phil?

prolly not

TPercy @ 2/3/2016 9:57 PM
If the triangle is a system for the long term, do we try to force him into playing this role?

Jamal Crawford? Try again.

Not sure I ever see him getting the triangle down. It is not like he has been shooting the ball well either.

Yeah it really is.
nyknickzingis @ 2/3/2016 10:31 PM
Grant needs a summer where all he does is learn how to move off the ball, and shoot the ball. After that, watch lots of and lots of Triangle game tape.

If he does that and has confidence in his off the ball skills, then he'll be a better point in the Triangle. His worst tendency is he wants to keep the ball too long and won't move it stagnating the offense. The type of team the Knicks are trying to become is a team that moves the ball quickly. If Grant has confidence in his off the ball skills, he'll give that ball up early. The other thing is to move him to 2 in the Triangle, and make him work to get the ball vs initiating the offense himself.

magicTs @ 2/3/2016 10:33 PM
He will never be good enough for an NBA Finals team assuming that is our long term aim.

You look at Westbrooks line again tonight: 24 - 19 -14 and whilst it would of course be stupid to compare the two there is just no sign that Grant will ever get close to the top echelon of point guards.

He definitely needs the d league time. You can't pay favorites. Cleananthony played great in pre season then became an after though and had a few stints in the d league this year. Grant needs to go and we need to get a pro ready guard in here
