Knicks · Stan Van Gundy Knicks not rebuilding team (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 2/5/2016 8:34 AM
This is a good point.

Knicks in 90's their players were roughly the same age coming together. The team we have now is already older age range are way over the place--if we are not a good team with vet players now--what will it do to add say one more good player? Take us from a .400 team to .500? Our best player is on the curve down. I dont see this as the backbone of championship team?? Were a pretty good competitive team

ChuckBuck @ 2/5/2016 10:04 AM
Stan's not wrong. If Knicks were truly rebuilding and more caring of "the process" than the playoffs, do it correctly.

Van Gundy doesn’t see the Knicks as “developing.’’ He didn’t name names, but the Pistons leader seemed to be responding to Fisher.

“They’re a good team, a veteran team,’’ Van Gundy said before the Pistons’ 111-105 victory over the Knicks. “They got [Kristaps] Porzingis, but when all healthy, they put four veterans around him. It’s a smart, veteran team around a real talented young guy.

“I laugh a little bit when I see them referred to as a young, developing team. I wasn’t aware Robin Lopez, Carmelo Anthony, Jose Calderon and Arron Afflalo are that young. I read that. Wow. I guess in society at large, guys in their 30s are young.’’

You have to get Calderon the phuck outta there if you're truly developing. Melo to an extent, but has to be for the right price.

Stan's spot on on calling Fisher's bullshyt.

just cuz you have vet players means your not a rebuilding team?yes they have melo...but they have affalo (one yr contract, player option), jose (who they CANT wait to get rid of) and Rolo (who is actually relatively young). the knicks ARE rebuilding. they were just smart enough to add vet presence for leadership and to make them semi competitive

True rebuild is playing the younger players (IE Grant, Cleanthony, DWill, etc) as much as possible.

Just because they play KP a good amount of minutes, doesn't mean it's a true rebuild.

If that were the case, Calderon wouldn't see the light of day, Jimmer or Wroten would get the call, and you'd evaluate and see who's staying and who's going.

Playing veterans heavy minutes means you're trying to win now, not auditioning players for "the process".

i didnt saying anything abuot a TRUE rebuild. its a PSEUDO-rebuild...smh. which is frustrating to me cuz in the name u need to be all in or all out. not this mediocre-get-killed-in-the-1st-rd-8th-seed crap

I agree. I hate backdooring into the playoffs as an 8 seed and getting swept.

I just hate that we're forced to do a PSEUDO-rebuild and attempt to compete due to Melo's shrinking "window", and the main fact that we have no 1st round draft pick this year...

Correct, then some can say the twolves aren't rebuilding because they have KG, Andre Miller, and Prince. Knicks are comprised of mostly new pieces learning how to play together around Melo. That's a rebuild.

Id say retool rebuild no--thats what Minnesota is doing. They also have vets but the main players are 20-24

Retool/rebuild does not need to be based on the age of players. You can rebuild with veteran players in their late 20s/early 30s. The rebuild timelime would just be accelerated, but it's still a rebuild.

In the final 6 minutes of the Knicks vs Detroit game ...
Lopez n Gallo showed-up wid a consistent effort in their hustle for a win.
PG ISO-Melo missing shots showed he is still a C- minus average Closer .. need to past-first!
SG Afflalo 45th game performance showed he still hasn't prove he is a Closer for us
nyknickzingis @ 2/5/2016 6:27 PM
The re-build is having Lopez, Porzingis in there and having Galloway, Grant, Thomas and guys like DWill. All new faces that could be here a few years. Afflao/Calderon are here for a year more at most.

SVG is right that the starting 5 isn't young - but the bench is. And most of the guys we bring off the bench are guys we want to playing bigger roles as they get better.

SocraticBallin22 @ 2/5/2016 6:36 PM
His statement is true. Outside of KP, our entire starting 5 are comprised of veterans. (Melo in his prime but starting to decline; AA in his prime; Rolo in his prime; Jose past his prime).

Now who do we have coming off the bench and actually playing? Jerian Grant plays sporadically in the rotation so cannot be counted. D Will is young. Galloway is young. Seraphin and KOQ are approaching their prime. Lance is entering his prime. Sasha is in his prime. Cleanthony didn't play before he got shot. Thanasis is a bench warmer on a 10 day contract.

So, in essence, we have 3 guys who you could say we're developing right now, with only one--KP--playing huge minutes.

How exactly is that a rebuild? And there's nothing worse than a veteran team who is at or under .500 in the NBA.

It doesn't matter if the bench is young if you're not giving the young players significant minutes to develop--case in point being Jerian. If you're playing the likes of Sasha, Lou and Lance over the younger players, then it's a moot point.

nixluva @ 2/5/2016 7:08 PM
There's no commitment to old guys outside of MELO so in truth it's a rebuild. It's just not the Sixers, zero vets style rebuild. IMO it really doesn't matter. This franchise is trying to develop young players behind some vets and it's SMART! These vets are showing these kids how to be a pro and taking some pressure off them. True Rebuilds are overrated. Most don't end up like GS or OKC! It's not easy to do.

Jerian has been the biggest disappointment to me so far. I really liked him at Notre Dame and thought he was a great pick. However, he hasn't done anything that would warrant increased minutes on the court. O'quinn is right there with him but he is a young vet that disappointed in Orlando last year as well. In this case some, and probably most of this is on the players.
