Knicks · New Head Coach (page 2)

I Like Shaw because adversity makes a man strong.
I like Luke because he is young and been now part of successful GSW and Lakers. LIke Kerr sees phil as great teacher. (As did Fish, but not reason to abandon concept)
I like Rambis as he is experienced, had experienced adversity, and might be well received as he is part of the family.
No to Mark Jax, yes to MDA. I doubt would come back but his concepts are compatible with the triangle. Doubt Melo would like that either.
I'd say the next coach comes from Phils family tree. JVG or Thibs are part of Riley's tree and proven to be stagnant.

Spoelstra might disagree. Thibs had the Bulls contending year in and year out without their MVP for most of that stretch. Nothing stagnant about him. You would actally prefer Shaw over Thibs, why because he's a company man?

ChuckBuck @ 2/8/2016 12:36 PM
Logically, It's gotta be Thibs. The coaching tree thing didn't work, a relative NOOB in Walton (though successful due to Championship roster) would be a tough sell to our dejected players..

Melo almost played with Thibs, Thibs wanted Melo as his final piece in Chicago. Thibs would LOVE to coach a phenom like KP.

If Phil could help Thibs work with his roster management to prevent overuse...this would be a killer tandem.

Thibs is a very bright guy...he could run triangle and put his own spin easily.

JVG bury the hatchet and make this happen

I want either Shaw or Walton

My vote is for Luke Walton. He seems to be a pretty nuanced guy, is a triangle protege, seems to be a player-coach and more importantly, has experience in coaching the way that we want to/should play. I'd hire Brian Shaw as his lead assistant because I think that Kurt Rambis is a bum from his days in Minnesota.

I also like Walton, but this is from the Tim Cone interview on the Triangle thread began by newyorker4ever

Luke could be special, no doubt, but good players make good coaches, and there’s a lot of really good players at GSW. I think Luke is going to be like Phil. He’s going to be very selective where he goes. He can afford to wait for the best situation.

Cone is speculating, of course, but are we the "best situation" for him? He might very well be coming from a team that has won consecutive titles, and be the most desired coaching commodity on the market.

Are KP and crew enough to pique his interest?

I think KP is enough to pique the interest of anyone. I like Walton and absolutely do not want Shaw at all unless he's on the bench and i'd also take Thibs with the understanding that he's gotta stop running the players so hard and the especially goes toward Melo of course. Thibs would have us winning games i have no doubt about that but i just can't see Phil bringing in a non triangle coach so Walton it is. I'm not so sure that Walton would leave GS for the Knicks though but i have a feeling we'll be finding out.
newyorker4ever @ 2/8/2016 12:53 PM
Dennis Rodman put out a tweet that he's available and he can coach. LOL

how sad is that?

Its like a tech company only being able to hire a developer who knows a rarely used or proprietary language. Seems stupid and limiting.

I think we should bring in Gene Hackman. He did a great job of getting his best player, Jimmy Chitwood, to buy in and commit to the 4 pass system. I also nominate Dennis Hopper (shooter) as his unconventional wacky sidekick and lead assistant. If Hackman can lead a bunch of small town kids to the championship game, just think what he could do with our Knicks!

Confirmed that Rambis is the Head coach for the rest of this season which presumably means we are after someone already in a job (Walton) who won't come until then.

Don't know about Hackman, but Hopper would have to be represented by a photo in the coach's office, because, sadly, he's been dead since 2010.

Not sure- not Shaw though. I'd like a bit of experience and someone with an air of authority. And someone who can actually make great strategic adjustments- I honestly can't remember the last time we made a half time adjustment that gave us the upper hand- feels like its always the other team that adjusts and we never counter.

I like Thibs a lot, not sure if he's the right fit though.

And Walton strikes me as a West Coast guy, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him pull a Kerr and pick a Western Conference team. I wouldn't be surprised if he went to the Lakers to coach them. Needless to say, him coming here is a long-shot. But he does remind me a lot of a young Phil Jackson and so I'd welcome him with open arms.

Why? Successful teams are the ones who think ahead of the curve. All too often, the Knicks have thrown big money at HOF types only to find out that the game had passed them by (see Larry Brown and Lenny Wilkens). Walton is young and apart of a new generation that will set the tone for what championship types will look and play like. Give me that guy over any re-thread.
