This Fisher firing is not as clear to me as it seems to be to almost everyone else.

On January 20 the Knicks were 22-22.

I maintain that this was a beyond-our-wildest-dreams achievement in implementing the Triangle with a completely re-worked roster.

This was brilliant.

Then 18 days later . . . Fisher is gone (?)

I'm not saying he shouldn't be gone. "In Phil We Trust".

But it seems to me it has to be a character issue of some kind . . .

That's my take. Either the man is not into the gig, was too arrogant, or is toxic going forward in the Free agency recruiting game.
something might have set this team off cuz there play has fallen off deep and quick.

I thought the team was playing as if a trade is coming. It gets tentative.

ChuckBuck @ 2/8/2016 1:03 PM
Easy math. Rondo back and forth + Process comment + Govan/Barnes menage a trois + Losing 9 out of 10 = BYE BYE.

Yeah, I'm with this line of thinking, too.

I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that we played Memphis twice over the past 18 days. Did you notice Melo sat out both those games?

I feel like there is more going on behind the scenes that we didn't know about.

I have a feeling the Barnes thing was a major issue for Phil. And maybe Melo? And the Rondo comment was just not smart.

Chandler @ 2/8/2016 1:22 PM
all good points and might be correct

i think the team was going backwards. the game/system should be getting easier more natural as the season progressed, and instead it wasn't (could be an indictment on the system but i don't buy that). Could be the case that Fisher was NOT good at teaching the triangle, regardless of how good he was at playing it.

Add to it that certain players were not developing, and some of the other nonsense and Phil had to make a decision.

I don't think this was based on pure impulse -- this must have been on Phil's mind for a while

Rondo was asked about the possibility of him to the Knicks on Friday. He reportedly said: "The triangle’s not really a good look for me, I don’t think."

Fisher's response:
“You can’t ask a guy that wasn’t very successful playing against it whether or not he wants to come play in it,” Fisher said. “So that’s his opinion, that’s fine. He doesn’t play for us. So we’re not concerned about his opinion about us at this point.”

WaltLongmire @ 2/8/2016 1:37 PM
They have been 3-11 since the Boston win where Anthony got hurt after stepping on the ref. They were 20-20 after that win.

Possible adjustments after the injury affected his knee.

As I mentioned in another thread...classic Butterfly Effect

A simplified explanation, and one that applies to Anthony...

The theory that even the smallest step one takes in his/her life can change the course of said life immensely.

Phil wants things done his way. And Fisher is too stubborn. Fisher has a general manager type personality, instead of a humble coach puppet for Phil.

Fisher should've been the assistant first. Learn how to be a coach, b4 trying to take on a NY franchise that doesn't know how to play in the triangle.

His lack of development for Grant was a huge negative for me, along with his rotations or lake of consistency.

maybe fisher wanted to get phil to run a more traditional offense and he clashed with phil over that?

Also interesting: The questioner used the adjective "elite" to describe Rondo. Fisher challenged the accuracy of that description.

“That’s your decision on whether he’s elite or not,” the coach said.

It was foolish to say anything about Rondo.

Hell...Porzingis or Grant could have responded better to the Rondo comment.

That was a comment he might have said if he was still playing on OKC, not as head coach of the Knicks.

Not only does it dissuade Rondo from wanting to be a Knick, but other potential free agent point guards that might have considered cashing in. You simply turn the other cheek, and hope someone of Rondo's caliber even considers New York as a destination.

Just stupid all around by Fish, in a just a multitude of stupid actions and decisions by him. Good job by PJax to fire him now rather than later to avoid Fisher further embarassing himself and franchise any worst.
