Knicks · Nalod's coaching endorsement........ (page 1)

Nalod @ 2/9/2016 7:45 AM
Thibs can learn the triangle as the guy is a hoops junkie and first class work-a-holic. He is not married, not openly gay or even gay for that matter, but I have read the guy eats and sleeps hoops and does not even date. I have read he is not an easy person to to have in an organization. His friends have told him to take vacations, take a year off, and freaking learn to be a human being.

He was not liked by Chicago's management but loved by Reisendorf.

People can change and learn from their pasts. They often do. This is why articles written by amateurs (such as I) don't hold a lot of cred because the assumption is they stay the same. They assume Brian Shaw would still not get long with his young players no matter what! Rambis would continue to fail even though had no support by Kahn as mentioned did not have his own assistants either who stabbed him in the back.

Its also assumed by many that Walton is the "Golden Child" despite he has the best player in the league, the best back court in the league and took over for a team that just won a championship and is healthy and intact!!! There was not system change over or assistants to introduce team to. Other than Gentry leaving, its very much the same!!! Walton be his own man or have to work under Rambis and Cleamons? Is that a good thing or a bad from either Phil or young Luke? Fish wanted to be his own man and he bought in his own OKC guys. Its a good move on paper but it did not work. Would Luke want that too? Would Phil be ok with it, and can luke make it work??

Others like Larry Brown and George Karl know how to win even if not loved by his players or organization. They have succeeded multiple times so its assumed you hire them you'll win, but drama will ensue.

Knicks need to win and not have discord so they can recruit.
We know its the players that count. Rambis went to work for the Moron who drafted Rubio and Jonny Flynn over Steph Curry. Karl is instinctively right and following in the Larry Footsteps having tried to undermine Vlade and Cousins!!! Kerr took over for a team already having won 55 games and built on it, not tearing it down and rebuilding.

Durant was always a long shot but if reports that Fisher and his OKC cronies were not listening to Phil and his gang of Bling Masters not having results, it was safe to assume then Durant was not coming based on just being friends with Fish. Rumor mill has him going to GSW. Winning matters.

Coach's are not players so you don't always know what your getting regarding transposing stats. Reading into each its not to be assumed a coach can transpose the past success as the players are different and staff can be different. Thus, Walton is not bringing Curry with him, Thibs is not bringing young Noah, Deng and Rose with him either. We don't know if Phil is staying long term either.

So who does Nalod endorse? Rambis for now!!!!!
Im not naive to think just starphuch wish's about other coach's magically changing this team. I will root for him to succeed this season and make it hard for Phil to look elsewhere. He has the experience and knowledge and obviously the endorsement of enough players for phil to make this change in his direction.

ChuckBuck @ 2/9/2016 8:42 AM
ChuckBuck's coaching endorsement is Thibs. Guy's a proven winner and actually wants to be here. He said the Knicks is his dream job!!!

He was actually my first choice to coach the Knicks before D'Antoni got hired. People can adjust and change, and I think he will too. He won't run players into the ground in practice next time around. He'll extend rotations and won't cause Melo's legs to be amputated.

Dude was JVG's top lieutenant many years ago. Thibs is a brilliant basketball mind, he'll bone up on the triangle and ace every question Phil throws at him. I'm sure Phil's not even thinking about the Knicks - Bulls rivalry if he interviews Thibodeau. He's thinking about how Thibs got Derrick Rose to MVP level, making Joakim Noah an defensive star, and making a fringe player in Jimmy Butler into an absolute star. He's not the coach the Knicks need...he's the one they deserve.

matt @ 2/9/2016 8:45 AM
I just hope they at least interview him and have the job be truly open. If Phil only keeps the job open to his triangle buds, then we are screwed. He can go back to LA. He gave us Porzignis, soooooo thank you byebye

there is no doubt phil is gonna go back to LA sooner rather than later BUT before he does I hope he at least hires the best coach available first.
Knixkik @ 2/9/2016 8:52 AM
My hope is that thibs wants the job bad enough to convince Phil he will keep some of the current assistant coaches on staff so they can continue to run the triangle. Thibs is a defensive coach. A few of his assistants will specialize in offensive strategy anyways, so it could make sense. But he will have to sell Phil on that idea.
Knicks1969 @ 2/9/2016 8:53 AM
My choices are: 1) Walton, 2)Jackson, 3)Shaw

the triangle coaching tree

Nalod @ 2/9/2016 9:21 AM
Shaw won't have Faried to argue with, nor a drunk Lawson. These were the two he had problems with.
Chuck, your Thibs scenario is all hype and wishful thinking. What basis do you have on any of it other than his work ethic?
I like the guy and would be ok with his hire but not by your reasons.

His dream job? So what. Its not about his dreams, its about the team succeeding. Running players into the ground? one would hope he treats $100 million dollar assets with regard to their value.
Actually I think more old school and these guys want to be paid like supermen they should play but its a new world and other teams will do it. Thibs gets the gig and forms a love fest with Phil Im fine with it. I respect Thibs a lot and if would accept the mentorship from phil then "two great minds are better than one". Or None.

You lost me on "Bulls rivalry". Phil got 6 rings with "Bulls" written all over it.

Now, the biggest question I have is really how healthy is Derek Rose and what can he do going forward cuz this kid is the perfect Triangle leader skill wise. Im not fond of him personally and his knees are a huge concern but healthy he is the triangle wet dream.

Mark Jax a evangelistic homophobe and front office nightmare I can't imagine would even be a thought for Phil and his Zen like liberal ways. Other than he is from the area, went to school at St Johns 30 years ago and knows how to read a subway map, I can't see how he would be even considered if only for the publicity. If Nets want him, that's their gig.

BY the way, my take on no KNicks on social media commenting on Fish's departure Im going to guess is the knicks closed social media policy at work.

newyorker4ever @ 2/9/2016 9:31 AM
I don't know if any of you watch Boomer & Carton but they're hoping Phil uses his opt out and goes back to the Lakers to take over their GM job that a lot of people think will be open sometime soon. I think the Lakers have a big chance of being good very fast if a couple of things can fall their way in free agency. They have some really good young talent in D.Russell, J.Randle, J.Clarkson, L.Nance and others and a ton of free agency money to spend this off season. Someone made a thread about Pjil leaving yesterday and i posted that i don't see him leaving us within two years but i forgot he had a opt out and i actually wouldn't doubt if he did leave if Dolan told him he didn't care which i can see Dolan doing cause he's probably itching to get his hands back on this team.
helloharv @ 2/9/2016 9:57 AM
HelloHarv endorses 1.Thibs 2.JVG 3.Walton
Rookie @ 2/9/2016 9:59 AM
This franchise is stuck in a perpetual cycle of one step forward, two steps back. If you want to read the tea leaves there are a lot of coincidences pointing towards LA. Phil could easily make the speech about his age and always wanting an ownership stake in the Lakers. It is his home, his woman is in charge and they are prime for a complete overhaul. The gate to his kingdom is open and he even had the foresight to put the out clause in his contract making for a clean exit.

LA is prime for the top pick in the draft, they already have some good pieces, the coaching position and GM spot are easily vacated and no one would argue the change based on the performance of the team. All we need now is a royal wedding joining Phil and Jeanne. It is prime for media, a good story for the media with a happy ending of the storied franchise returning to it's former glory.

Meanwhile back in NY, arch villains James Dolan and Isiah Thomas lurk in the shadows like 'He who must not be named'. The Dark Lord Voldemort seeks his return to power and will have his day

You just can't make this stuff up!!

crzymdups @ 2/9/2016 10:08 AM
I think there are two paths:

Path one - Phil stays the course here and brings in Walton and modernizes the Triangle

Path two - Phil leaves for LA with Walton this summer. We bring in Thibs

I think I'm in favor of Thibs. His style would fit NY.

Thibs for me. I think Thibs will be the best for Zinger's career. Teach him D. Spacing. Rotations. Craft a D that rotates around Zinger. Noah was never as good as under Thibs. Sky is the limit for Zing.

Frank Isola and Woj hinted at it. He has an opt out this summer.

I would quickly discard MJackson and BShaw. I would also pause slightly on Walton, as he inherited a winning lottery ticket. He didn't muck it up, but I think it is near impossible to separate his effectiveness from that of the team generally. I'm nervous about Rambis... his career winning percentage makes me nervous. That said, he clearly is getting the reins with a chance to earn a more permanent role.

Not sure why the P&T article says that Dolan hates both Van Gundy and Thibodeau. Would be interested in some of that backstory.
