He said to keep an eye on the Clippers. The hosts mentioned Ainge and Doc's relationship. It could be a very interesting trade deadline.
Another plausible triangle of teams that would move picks, Melo, Blake. I like that 2 teams - LAC, CLE - are in a bidding war for Melo.

There are some very interesting possibilities out there. It was interesting to see CP3 and Melo's kids hanging together last night. It just reminds how close the families are. Gotta think CP3 is talking to MELO about joining him.

Cleveland would give him the best shot at a chip (and he'd get furthest in the playoffs), Clips would be a city he'd actually like to live in and could pursue his business plans, and get to play with his best friend (and an actual PG!). We can only hope he see's sense and OK's a trade to one of those two.

I'd put Miami in there as well. It's another place him and his wife would be happy living and putting him with Bosh and Wade would put them as a hard team to beat in the playoffs.

I guess this would assume Blake's value as a player to the Clips is low.
2 simultaneous trades.
trade #1
BOS: Blake
NY: DLee, Marcus Smart, Brooklyn 2016, other picks
LAC: Melo
trade #2
NY: Lance Stephenson
LAC: Jose

Trade 2 is pretty interesting as well. If the Knicks trade for Lance do they bring in Shaw as an assistant right away? Also, would Shaw take an assistant's job at this point.
In regards to trade 1, I would go from hating Marcus Smart to loving him in a matter of seconds.

I would be very pleased with that outcome. I like Melo, but the time frame it would take to build a contender is a year or two to long to keep him
If it were Griffen, considering his age and being a perennial all-star, I'd do a straight swap. I think Clips would want a bit more than Melo, and I don't know if we have the extra asset they would require.
Like you look at the draft this year, the #1 pick is Simmons. He's likely to become a player the level of Blake, that Blake already is. It would mean moving KP to the 5 more, I'd be ok with it. I'd even be open to trying KP at the 3 if we had 2 athletic guards in the backcourt to pair with.

Yep, the cards have fallen in a pretty nice place for us. And don't get me wrong, I'd rather keep Melo if KP was older or Melo was younger but we are a bit between a rock and a hard place by just depending on how FA goes for us. Getting Blake here would at least give us more time, but his defense...
I'd probably want to go for getting a Brooklyn pick this year if possible.

So is the official UK position now trending toward the belief that there is perhaps some substance to all the Melo trade rumors??
There's substance.
Was quiet clear Phil said Melo isn't traded because of a NTC. Didn't talk about it being his value to the franchise. The NTC kept being brought up.
I think Phil and NY have entertained the idea of dealing him. However they know how tough it'll be with the NTC. They want to send him somewhere he can contend for a title, but Melo still may not want to leave.

I don't think it's going to happen, but I hope it does- the situation with Griffin and Love and the Celtics is a perfect storm- might not be there if Melo waits until the offseason to decide he wants out. I think the return we'd get for Melo drops off a cliff if we don't get something done by the deadline (which we probably wont)

If they got him go Lac then I'd say 25% I don't think clev has a chance the Knicks have more chance of getting lebron than getting Melo with his ntc

If you don't get a top 2 pick you can still get a really good player but the value does drop preciptutously at 3 At that pointed calculated trade downs or perceived reaches might be a reality to get the right guy for the knicks if by slim chnace this happens
S
Melo will get more money if he waits until after the cap jumps. If the Clips trade Blake I expect them to trade Paul next year at this time too. It would be easier to challenge Cleveland than go up against GSW, OKC, and the Spurs.
Also, how is something quiet when there have been rumors about trading Blake by a lot of writers.

My issue is the Brooklyn pick. Right now, it's top 3 and has a good shot of ending up as the no.1 overall pick. If it does, however,I think the Celtics reconsider the wisdom of acquiring Griffin or Love and evidentably holds onto it. That'd be a golden opportunity lost for us because we'd struggle to find value remotely close to the potential of that pick at this juncture.
I continue to believe that the Clippers and CP3 is the only place Melo would waive his no trade for right now. Even with that he may want to wait til summer.

Agreed. But if we wait to the summer, we lose our opportunity for having the no.1 overall pick in the draft because I strongly doubt the Celtics surrender it in any trade. Ainge has waited for this opportunity since he first got to the Celtics front office.
But if we somehow manage to get Taj Gibson involved in the deal to the Clippers, I think we'd be golden. Hell, I'd take on Derrick Rose's contract for it to happen.

Hey Walt, I think logically, there must be something to the "trade rumors". Unless Phil really thinks we can get a major FA this off season.
It is almost odd, Melo for sure would love to play for a championship and he probably can make Cleveland compete for the next 3 years. That is huge, just depends on what else Cleveland can funnel to Boston, to get Boston to give us a package worth taking. And on the other hand, Melo would love LA, but his chance there just isn't as good imo, but still a hell of a lot better than here.
And on a lighter note, looks like Longmire is going to have one last season starting around September and each episode 1 hour each. http://masterherald.com/longmire-season-...
Uhhh . . . do the Celtics really need all of picks they've got . . . to actually use themselves (?)
I'm not sure I see how another rookie, 2 years away from contributing, is what they need.
Aren't the picks more valuable in bringing in some veteran talent to make the team good sooner (?)
