I don't really think Carmelo has much power, because if he did, THJ would have remained in NY; Mark Jackson would have been the coach
Seems MELO only has power over being traded. Everything else is in Phil's hands.

or dolan

Dolan is obviously at the top but he seems to be letting Phil do his job. Dolan is reported to love Phil for drafting KP! I think Phil has tremendous clout with Dolan despite the losing streak.

i agree EXCEPT melo was probably more of a dolan decision

It's unclear. I think Phil at that time did want to keep MELO rather than start from scratch. I think Phil really believed he could get MELO to buy in like he has this year. Phil knew the cap was likely to go up as well and so his chances of adding talent were not great but reasonable with MELO in the fold. At least that's how it seemed to me.

Yes i can buy that BUT phil was pretty adamant about melo taking a paycut, i remember him saying that several times. So thats why dolan definetly had some influence in it

How is the Melo/Jax connection valid? Article? or one of those special feelings you get?
Wanna know who really has the power?
Phil's first year was horrendous. Hiring a buffoon to coach for the first time in his life; trading with Dallas for garbage in return; etc. he has done much better in his second year and I appreciate the growth. I am antsy to see what he does before or after the break.
Dolan wants a "star."
As soon as he read about KP's jersey sales, he was happy.
His success at the Rising Stars game was icing on the cake, and remember, he did very well in the All-Star voting, and won the fan vote for the Rising Stars game award.
KP gives Phil a lot of capital with Dolan, although the Fisher debacle diminished that capital a bit.
Dolan might be thinking that even without Anthony, he has a player folks want to see.
well i left DOlan out of the equation on purpose. of course hes at the top. i meant strictly between phil and melo
Power over what?
Melo has total power about any trade that involves him.
Other than that he had the pirate to take a position against Phil on any decision and to kick up a big fuss. But he had no power to change it.
He wasn't happy with THJ trade but could do nothing about it.
power = as in controlling the future of the franchise (via transactions: free agents (recruiting, cap room, etc)

Phil unless he bolts.
We shall see......Recently Melo has been disagreeing with Phil using the media as his main communication tool.
1. Disagrees with Phils home game coaching.
2. Thinks Knicks job should be open to other coaches.
I'm detecting a pattern from Melo lately. He's trying to put his imprint on this franchise and using social media to let his fans and Phil know. Since that's how Phil likes to communicate.

You saw Melo not liking the idea of Phil coaching home games as Melo disagreeing with Phil?
How many false straw men do the media have to put out there before we can completely ignore the stupid?
Melo is way more powerful than Phil. He holds the NTC and he has the ability to take the Knicks down with his play and his words. He is talking about coaches, recruiting and black books at the expense of the team. He is throwing his teammates under the bus and he doesn't even know he is doing it.
If Phil wants to coach home games then he should coach home games it's not like Melo is gonna win us a championship. Melo needs to stop talking think he is some sort of winner who has won championships.
Yeah Melo is the more powerful the NTC give him the power over Phil and even Dolan.
