Knicks · Let's get real...We are not making the playoffs. It's time for auditions (page 1)

Rookie @ 2/18/2016 5:50 PM
"The four teams directly ahead of the 12th-place Knicks — Orlando, Washington, Detroit and Charlotte — all made moves and seemingly improved. Making up the five games the Knicks are out of a playoff spot just got tougher."

Going forward, I would like the Knicks to (not publicly) acknowledge they are not a playoff team and start committing to developing our younger players. This means less minutes for Calderon and more for Grant. Vucjicek needs to never play another minute and even Almundson is a roster spot the Knicks can use to start auditioning Free agents on friendly contracts or 10 days. Also, both Melo and Aflallo need to be playing 30 minutes and less the rest of the way.

Maybe it's just me not being ready for how dull the rest of the season is going to be unless we start getting some kids in here trying to make the club. And please, no geriatric waiver wire pick ups, we need youth.

Do it for me Phil!

StarksEwing1 @ 2/18/2016 5:54 PM
Toronto must be laufhing. I cant believe they will be getting a lottery pick for bust bargnani. Anyway i agree i want to see jerian grant get starter minutes and i want KP to get more touches
crzymdups @ 2/18/2016 5:56 PM
How did Orlando get better? They gave away Tobias Harris and Channing Frye. I would argue they stood pat at best by adding Ilyasova and Jennings - might have gotten worse.

Washington and Detroit definitely had great trade deadlines.

Bosh might be out for the year in Miami.

What did Charlotte do again?

word was Harris was very negative, so maybe you are right and they didn't improve. Maybe moving him builds chemistry that was missing and helps them win more games. And maybe they have a very good young core and 43M in cap space this summer. Oh and they have their own 1st rd pick and a stockpile of future 1st's. I like their future, don't dog my second team to root for

Knicks can only worry about themselves. Can't worry about what other teams did to their rosters. Knicks just have to get back to playing the way they were before the injuries. If they do they'll be competitive.

I don't want Grant going back to playing like he was. I don't want Melo playing 40+ minutes to win meaningless games. I don't want Jose or Aflallo playing heavy minutes over Grant and Galloway's development. I don't want Sasha to ever see the court again.

I do want us to add a few yoots to audition for our future and yes, that means playing them even if they don't know the triangle. The rest of the games are meaningless, we are not making the playoffs. Let's rest our vets, play our kids and fill our open roster spot

Their not gonna stop trying to win just to play Jerian more minutes. If he shows he can play the position Rambis will play him. There's no reason not to try and win games. Aside from Jerian our young players already play.

Phil is most likely going to fill the last spot soon. Basically the Knicks are already doing the right thing. Now they've gotta get it done on the court. Should be a very interesting close to the season.

knickscity @ 2/18/2016 6:46 PM
I must admit that watching another trade deadline past by with no real upgrades is absolutely disgusting. I could see no making moves if the team is in a good position, but it's way too far from that.

Interesting how so? We've already seen what this roster can do. We are 23-32. Calderon/Sasha are not the future. How is watching them fail interesting? Time to start auditions. If we are in win mode, it is going to put a heavy burden on Melo and his knees and for what?

This squad, even with an upgrade at PG, wasnt going to the ECF, let alone the finals. This summer will be where the action is. Seasons past Dolan would have forced a rearranging of the deck chairs. Phil isn't doing that, he's waiting for better opportunities in a few months.

No move is better than a bad move. They did no harm to the cap and can still bring in a player for the last roster spot. They also have the off season to get better. As for the status of the roster they just have to dig deep and look to get back to playing good team ball as they were earlier.

23-32 is not really indicative of the best this team can play. We all know injuries were the biggest reason for the poor play. Plus some poor coaching mixed in.

This team is capable of playing at a higher level and not having to push MELO into playing 40 minutes. That's what Rambis is gonna have to prove and it's gonna be very interesting to see the changes he makes to how the team plays. This isn't a finished product and we'll have to wait for the summer to address major improvements to the roster.

How is seeing the 9-10 man rotation that will not play .500 ball interesting? You know that Rambis is going to run them into the ground, and for what?

We don't know for sure that they won't get back to .500. For one thing I actually liked some of what I saw from Rambis. From his comments he's got more changes in store and they all sound very sound IMO. MAYBE Rambis has better ideas than Fish that can squeeze a little more out of this roster. It's worth a shot. Anything is possible at this point.

This same team was playing really well up until Melo stepped on the refs foot and missed some time because of it.

I'm actually somewhat excited to see what they do in the 2nd half and to see what Rambis does or how he uses them and how they play for him.

They definitely should bring in a guy and give him minutes. I still really like Wroten but would be fine with another player coming in. I like Thanasis but I hope they bring in a point guard. Also, it does seem like Westchester has become more of a developmental program that the team can utilize. I am hoping Early rehabs and plays there and it might not be a bad idea to send Grant down for a few games especially if another young back court player is added.

I would use "disappointing," instead of "disgusting," but there did not seem to be many great moves to be made. You know that Jackson wanted to get some help for the team, but it looks like he was right not to make a Bargnani type deal to get a Beverly or Teague.

You look at the potential Beverly "deal" and it was obvious that Morey was trying to rip us off. I expect that Atlanta, still pissed off with the Hardaway trade, was attempting to get a little revenge in any Teague trade on the table.

You can't deal out of desperation when, even with the deal, we will probably not make the playoffs.

It would have been more disappointing for me if we had overpaid for a player in the way we usually seem to have done in this century.
