With the Raptors and Celtics light years ahead of filled with multiple high draft picks and massive cap space of their own--we will have little chance to make headways over the next 2-3 years. It would take a shocking free agent--as in Lebron for us to change the tide and its not happening(and then we still need 3 more guards lol)
The path Id take trade Carmelo for picks young players and cap Try but if season goes bad next year full tank for another top 5 pick only purchase quality low cost free agents who are YOUNG. Really work on style of play and player development Bring in Luke Walton
I think there are several upperclassmen guards in college who can help this team--I really believe that. It will take time but Id rather have players that we hand pick and develop. Its time for us to get the next Drey green Manu Ginobli and Isiah Thomas

Trading MELO is up to him. Up to now he hasn't wanted to leave. It's not the only way for Phil to improve the team. This summer Phil will have cap space. How much depends on the players decision to opt out or not. I'm pretty sure Phil will stretch Jose. His entire focus can be on a new starting backcourt!!!

Yea Briggs... reading your threads is like this:
And you are wrong. KP/Rolo/Melo is an excellent frontcourt. The Knicks dont need Lebron, they need an NBA starting backcourt and they will overpay a bit to make that happen. Lets see if they can execute.
Its likely that AA/DWill opts out. Stetch Jose and you are around $35mm+ in cap space. Max for Conley, $15mm for Batum and your starting line up is Lopez, KP, Melo, Batum, Conley with Galloway, Grant and Willy G or whoever else on the bench, and thats a damn good team.

What makes you think Walton is a great head coaching candidate? He has no experience implementing a system, integrating new players, etc.
Also, I think you are completely neglecting the impact that running Melo out of town will have on the franchise. Players will simply not respect that and we already have our backs against the wall when it comes to being an attractive destination.
yellowboy90@ 2/23/2016 10:29 AM
Batum agent hangs up the phone at $15m.

Stay away from Batum. He's getting 16MM a year at the very least.
That team could barely win a playoff series with Lopez, two all stars, a fringe all star and Batum. He isn't making us much better. He shoots 41% from the field.

I can agree with moving Melo if he wants to go. If not, you keep him.
The team is a real PG and decent shooting guard away from top 3 in the EC, IMO.
Calderon cannot be on the roster next year. He just can't.
I am not sold on Conley either. I think The right guy is Westbrook. The problem is he is 1 1/2 years away and Melo is 33-34 then.

I think he got great exposure to how a great teams works. He would be 50-5 if he was still there. I like the youth--I want someone young who can grow with the team as well. I DO NOT like Tom T he is near 60 he runs players into the ground and hes not flexible.
Boston got it right--our Brad Stevens is Luke Walton.

Dont drink the juice there. We HAVE a decent SG right now. So if we add a good PG--by the way who will not be that great--there is NO great PG to be had in free agency. that DOES not put us above 3 in OUR own division.

They got beat by Memphis, beat the Rockets and lost to the Spurs. I agree on his FG% its not good. He's never been a great shooter, a serviceable one at best. He's a good defender and a top flight ball mover. I think your price tag is spot on and I think he's worth that. He's a guy who works on his game. If I could get Conley here I would absolutely stretch Jose and give Batum my remaining cap FA $$$ which I figure is in the $15-$20 range depending on some factors, but I think he's attainable and would be an massive improvement over anything we have. He would as they say push the needle.
He reminds me of Boris Diaw. Not a star, but a really good player who does a lot of things.

Huh?
Aren't you the one who wants to waive and stretch Calderon? Which I agree with.
IMO you over value AA. His outside shot is streaky. He does not pass AT ALL. He does not fit the game today. He is a low post player now.
Not a top 3 team with a real backcourt?
So you are saying that If you traded NY's backcourt for Toronto's, you honestly don't think the records would be reversed???? Seriously?!
I'd like to see you defend that viewpoint! Lowry for Calderon alone would make them at least .500 now. Shoot, Joseph for Calderon would make them .500!

I think he will get the max from Jordan at the least and I also think other teams will try to give him the max.
The $15-17m would be his price in this cap but in a $92m salary cap year it will be at $20m or above. It just is what it is. Maybe his shooting will lower his price tag but I doubt it.

Raptors and Celtics are good, and will be good for awhile, but neither team is winning a championship without dramatic improvements to the current roster. In fact, Toronto might be one more 1st round exit from just starting over. They flirt with rebuilding every year when they get bounced early in the playoffs. You want to know why? Because it is a superstars league. Teams with superstars win in the playoffs. We have Porzingis who is one of the leagues most likely young superstars. Getting a future star in the hardest thing to acquire. Toronto has 2 all-stars at their peaks. Neither is a franchise superstar. Celtics don't have that. So the "light years ahead" thing is not accurate.

He's a French dude and only played there 1 year. That team has a lot of young talent at the same position. I would think coming and playing in NY would have some appeal, and its not a rebuild or anything. He rejoins Lopez (who he played his best ball with), Melo, KP and hopefully a better PG. I think $15mm-$18mm range is feasible
