Knicks · Ray McCullough waived (page 3)

This is what happens when you become too invested in any one system or ideology. You lose sight of what's really most important. This is a good life lesson for all of us to be more flexible and practical in our own lives.

Bothers me because another GM would recongnize the severity of the problem with have at PG and be out there actively looking for solutions. Even perceived short term fixes could wind up being long term solutions... Again I've been sayin' it -- beggars can't be choosers. How do we show zero interest in a guy like this? What's up with the continued loyalty to guys like Calderon, Sasha V, even Galloway who isn't great? All 3 of those guys need to be replaced. At least the first 2 -- you wanna tell me there's a place for Galloway as a 3rd PG/SG, OK--there just needs to be MUCH MORE talent put in place ahead of him first. Galloway can't be a primary component -- he's just not good enough. There are some decision makers out there that if knee-deep in our situation, they'd pounce on a kid like this. They'd act quickly and aggressively here--the furthest thing from their minds would be hurting Jose, Sasha or Langston's feelings. They'd give this kid McCallum the keys to the bus shortly after getting him and then assess whether he could be a long term solution. Too bad Phil's not that type of guy. I suppose he was last year to a degree with Alexey Shved; why not go the same route now with Ray McCallum? We're still in the same exact position basically. And even Rambis, man--if Phil added a McCallum, no guarantee Rambo would even play him. Dude's talking about not displacing guys that have been here the whole year. Huh?? Open your eyes, Kurt -- THEY SUCK!!! The continued loyalty to some of these guards we have is incredible to me. What do we owe these guys? They're all holding us back big-time!

sad that a kid like McCullough is a 3rd sting PG on a good team, but would likely be the best PG on the Knicks and we aren't even interested :(

The Truth Hurts!

Berman mentioning McCallum in his latest write-up as an option over Fredette, saying Rambis confirmed the Knicks are gathering info on all the players who've been waived recently. Hey maybe we do have a shot. I would think we need to be aggressive here--guarantee him PT the rest of the season and a legit look for next season if he plays well. This kid doesn't have to sign here -- we need to prove to him this is a good situation, better than Detroit. Tough sell but we should pull out all the stops trying.

I like SVG a lot but guys at OKC did not and do not like Reggie Jackson. He would have a chance to start in ny. Hopefully that helps to convince him.

I mean imagine if we did nothing more than sign Ray McCallum and found a way to draft a Yogi Ferrell in the 2nd round--how much brighter our PG situation would look with McCallum/Ferrell/Grant. Go get McCallum, guarantee him PT and possibly, yes, even a starting role. Why not? Tell him this situation is wide open right now, which it really is. If we want this guy, we need to be aggressive. Can't go at this half-hearted. There's gonna be some competition for his services (he's from Detroit and McCallum's dad and SVG know each other apparently). Perfect player for us to bring in and evaluate right now.

I agree. I did forget about his connections to Detroit.

The Knicks also were considering Tim Frazier when they signed Fredette. Maybe he is back in the conversation.

Ray doesn't do anything special anywhere. He is the same garbage we already have.

Thinking about it. Nobody we get is going to make a difference...ever. I'd rather have Jimmer as my 15th guy. Good for the bench even if he doesn't play and he can hit a free throw cold. He is perfect for that spot. Plus, fans love the guy.

callmened @ 2/29/2016 7:16 PM
ray is NOT a difference maker at all. at his peak, maybe hes a solid NBA backup. however at this point, im all for auditioning players who could be on the team. whether that ray, the jimmer or giannis 2.0.
TAB @ 3/1/2016 9:00 AM
This could be like the 3rd time Ray runs Jimmer out of town I think?

It's obviously a chance getting him but sometimes players just need a team to give them a chance and let them show what they can do and on the right team that player could surprise so why not give him that chance since it can't hurt us in any way??

Finestrg @ 3/1/2016 1:43 PM
Looks like Tony Wroten's still very much in play for us -- apparently we interviewed him last weekend:

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/241...

So you get the feeling Jimmer's gone...I'm personally hoping for McCallum. Wroten and McCallum are similar types of players in a sense--drivers more than shooters, Wroten's bigger and even younger which are centainly pluses--McCallum's just my personal preference. Just prefer his game more. We interviewed Wroten but it was days before McCallum was just cut--I wonder how that affects Phil's thinking...Was just reading that if we wanted McCallum, he'd have to clear waivers first--being over the cap, we can't absorb his cap hit to claim him off waivers outright. Bummer..Does anyone know how long it takes a player to get through waivers in this type of situation?

Here's a thought -- how 'bout we cut Sasha Vujacic (or Amundson) and add both Tony and Ray? Cut Sasha, Reduce AA & Jose's PT (what's the point now, right?), let McCallum handle the ball and gimme a healthy dose of Tony Wroten at the 2. Would love to see McCallum/Wroten/D-Will get out in transition on that 2nd unit. I'M DYING to see D-Will flanked by some faster/quicker guards--I think we'd see a completely different player, one worth bringing back for next yr.

crzymdups @ 3/1/2016 2:01 PM
Wroten!!!!

I'm glad the Knicks are at least doing due diligence.

If they decide Wroten or McCallum are the better fit, I'd be curious.

But, yeah, agree at this point - why not waive Lou Amundson and bring in both Tony and Ray?

That's exactly what they should do. Lets just hope Rambis will give whichever one is brought in playing time.
yellowboy90 @ 3/1/2016 2:49 PM
Early could barely get minutes this staff isn't going to give minutes to D-league players. Also, i think it is concerning that Arranging wasn't bought out. Why keep him in the roster?
EnySpree @ 3/1/2016 7:29 PM
It's about out working guys in practice. You guys can't expect a dude to come off the street to take minutes just because they are there. They have to earn it.when you do that it turns into a circus.

Now one thing I do agree with and that's waiving Amundson. Dude had zero chance to play for us. We have plenty of bigs. We need to figure out this guard situation. I'm against waiving Sasha. He's probably a fantastic practice player. His defense and energy are quite annoying

Based on the box score he had a good game tonight. 13 pts on 50% shooting including 3/4 from three. He played 26 minutes.
