Knicks · dwight to the knicks? (page 1)
He is not worth the next max he qualifies for which is 25 million or more a year. Can't pay two stars in physical decline that kind of money and be any good.
If by any chance he wants a 3 year deal in the 50 million range to come in and try to prove he's still an all star, NY is one of the few teams who would utilize him fully and Phil Jackson has always valued players like Dwight and put emphasis on getting them the ball.
Caseloads wrote:possible. thoughts?
Phil preaches TEAM which is something Dwight doesn't know about so why would Phil bring him in?? Phil wants guys that play well with each other and like playing with each other which isn't what Dwight is known for.
his max is considered LOW with the new cap because he doesn't have many years of experience, unless he does a 1 and 1,
it would be under 20m per year
Whiteside is a TOP TIER CENTER that is YOUNG and is already
#1 top shot blocker by far along with help defense, not sure how good is 1v1 defense actually is though
The Triangle needs consistent talents that can initiate and finish at consistent high % shots, in which we obviously do not have along with other versatile talents on the roster like shooters/high IQ/ball handlers/DEF
Problem is CA is probably best at PF and KP has to develop a handle, post game, foot work, and many other overall skills
But ROLO and CA play much better together and with the 3 together, it has been pretty brutal
ROLO has played much better since Rambis took over, however, I wouldn't hesitate for 1 second if Whiteside commits to us...
Sell ROLO on a high if we can, as I said last year...
Like NO salary back, 1 1st rounder, and a couple of 2nd rounders
We have to find his agent and see if he has interest or not, Lakers and other teams will be surely be on the bid with a MAX contract
"the POST" is where we "want to traditionally execute in the Triangle system"
And KP with Whiteside would be a sick duo with shot blocking/DEFENSE, KP also draws much away with his range...
Ray Mccallum is a contract we should pick up his waivers from, Sun's might take a crack at him too, not sure where we rank by order for waiver wires...

The Heat don't like Whiteside- for me that's a major, major read flag.

GS uses the triangle more for floor spacing and passing with player/ball movement and use of picks/cuts
I hope we can get Luke Walton along with some of GS players and prior players to play with a couple of philosophies depending on match ups and units
The Heat do not have his bird rights and Bosh/Whiteside dont work well together as Whiteside clogs the paint
I generally do not believe in OLD SCHOOL Centers however, Whiteside's shot blocking along with his age and KP's length would be able to cover much ground together....
Rolo has played well and with the cap rising, we really have to see what kind of contracts are going to be given out
If Harrison Barnes can get 20m on average for 4years then Lopez may be able to get us some assets in which we have been lacking
If we can get Whiteside, I would settle for many value talents this year, and try to acquire Westbrook, CP3, Lowry, in 2017
Jon Leur, Mirza Televic could be solid shooters on cap friendly contracts
Chase Budinger, some ball handlers and upgrades at our guards
Some cap friendly targets that can defend multiple positions and play solid 1v1 DEFENSE with 2 shot blockers in Whiteside and KP would be a HUGE upgrade to our DEFENSE
Lance Thomas resigned *to a cap friendly deal*
Wesley Johnson
James Johnson *could be a very* poor mans Draymond Green as a SF/PF
Matt Barnes *old but has experience in the Triangle*
Jakarr Sampson
PG's and combo guards, along with point forwards/BIG GUARDS/Forwards
IF we collect draft picks it could force CA to revisit legit trades on his NTC
There could very likely be ANOTHER AMNESTY in the WORKS prior to 2017 season starting and not many teams will have the big pockets that Dolan has and be willing to do so to acquire talent/draft picks
G/F's DEFENSE, VALUE
With the ability to defend MULTIPLE POSITIONS
Wesley Johnson/James Johnson both could defend anywhere from SG/SF to some PG's and some PF's
Lance Thomas (early bird rights with a low cap hold) can defend anywhere from PG to PF's
GS talents, especially if we can bait Luke Walton
lets face it, EVERYONE wants to be GS, however, you need to talent/versatility/HIGH IQ talents with chemistry to execute such talents
multiple ball handler/multiple shooters, multiple players that know how to play on and off the ball/DEFEND on a high level, set screens, utilize picks, make great cuts, etc
Building a culture that would draw interest from FUTURE TOP TIER TALENTS as well as establishing a TEAM IDENTITY on OFFENSE, as well as DEFENSE with 1v1 and HELP DEFENSE
Maybe we will be running a bit more triangle mixed in with a hybrid system if we can sign Whiteside and get rid of Lopez as a positive contract
Kent Baezemore if we can sign him to a Danny Green type contract, maybe a bit less
trades for Iggy and Livingston, assuming that GS in fact persues Durant, Iggy >> Affalo, Livingston is a Phil Jackson type PG and can defend 4 positions with a very reasonable contract
Iggy will be in decline however he is a sure upgrade over Affalo and is a much better 1v1 DEFENDER and better overall verstile talent
Mo Speights/David Lee
Kuzmic
Brandon Rush, G/F
Ian Clark PG/SG combo guard
Justin Holiday
Bogut/Ezili and Jason Thompson
players that we would need draft picks and other incentives (not for Ezili but he has ties to Bogut as they are unlikely to have both on their roster if they get Durant
Harrison Barnes, I like him as a player but unless we have the TOP TIER talents assembled already, I am unwilling to commit to
There are many PG's and combo guard available, if we can sign them to CAP FRIENDLY deals while looking to upgrade to Westbrook, CP3 or other top tier talents BG, etc (Curry unlikely with GS's success and GS can offer the most money while he signed for under value since he was injury prone prior to his extension and then broke out after)
While still developing Galloway/Grant (but would not mind if we move them if they can net us positive value and sign some solid cap friendly contracts)
Lin
Ish Smith
Noris Cole
Tony Wroten/Russ Smith
Tyler Johnson/Spencer Dwinwiddie
Troy Daniels
Lance Stephenson (if we sign Brian Shaw to be our lead assistant while Walton is our HEAD COACH)
Shabazzz
Sessions/DJ Augustine/Bayless etc
Jennings
BIG GUARDS
Evan Turner
Brian Roberts/ Harrison TWINs Brothers
Livingston/Iggy/Shabazz/Lance
So David Lee *point/forward/center, like Lamar Odom did with Phil* and Shabazz are 2 point forwards that could help us much like Odom/Gasol and Pippen did with Phil Jackson
Would love Livingston as he can probably defend PG all the way to PF at times with his length
Iggy would be a expiring and upgrade over Affalo if GS can sign Durant and may need to get rid of some contracts, especially if we can get Luke Walton
Brian Shaw would be great as an assistant and bringing Lance Stephenson on a 2year deal with a player option for Derrick Williams like money
IMO, Derrick Williams and Affalo will OPT OUT and I would not overpay to keep them, especially with Affalo and his age
PG's the following year in 2017,
=========================================
Westbrook
CP3 and Lowry
Lets be real, every team now wants to play both OFFENSE and DEFENSE similar to GS
EVERY FA and GM would love to be able to do that to help attract FA's
In the West, it is just so tough and maybe Westbrook would actual consider NYK's if we improve much next season, possibly even forcing a trade like Melo did in Denver
Calderon's expiring could be used if so along with Grant/Affalo/Derrick Williams and multiple future draft picks in which would make us contenders next season
We should be looking to acquire Trainers to help develop our talent as well along with possible former players such as
Talents that have versatile skill sets that have NOT played in the Triangle and be part of our development/coaching staff...
Billups *for Galloway and PG's*
Rasheed Wallace *for KP*
Jermaine Oneil * especially, if we can acquire Bobby Portis*
Shane Battier for DEFENSE
Triangle coaching staff trees
Horry, Rick Fox, Kukoc/Pippen, Ron Harper, Sasha Vucevic *I think he plays well for us and he totally understand how to play in the Triangle*
Andrew Bynum *maybe with a vet min*

If Thibs were head coach, I would want the Knicks to consider it. Thought his ability to manage personalities was underrated. Not if Rambis stays, don't believe he could handle Whiteside, which isn't necessarily a disqualifier because a championship coach couldnt get through to him. Thibs gets players to run through walls for him. Just have to get him not to make his players run through so many.. haha.

Indeed, that is why I said, IF we are going to pay for a Center, it might as well be for Whiteside
Dwight was once worth that money but no longer and Stan Van Gundy has Andre Drummond who is very similiar to what a YOUNG Dwight Howard brought to the table...

If we go with the Thibs route, I could see Jeff Van Gundy and Thibs working very well together, whether it may be coaching or as a GM/President of Operations, as they are from the same Riley Tree with experience with each other

in general, i think we should keep our expectations low for the next few yrs. lol. this is MY GAMEPLAN:
- pray to the basketball deities that melo waves his no trade cluse this summer. cuz if he doesnt, by the time h wants to be traded, he might not be that good. i hope we get a 1st rd draft pick
- keep developing KP and find out who will play around him in his prime. all trades/drafts should be to acquire players age 25 and younger. forget this win now nonsense with melo. the next two yrs should simply be additions to see who can play with kp
- acquire and maybe even overpay for(mediocre talent) on SHORT TERM contracts. for example b. jennings on 2/20 contract (contradictory, i know. but we need a pg)
- let lebron and the warriors enjoy their dynasty and look for the opportunity in 2018 when the cap stablizes. if we play our cards right and dont overspend on LARGE contracts, then the knicks could be one of the few teams with cap space that summer. THEN i think free agents will come here

Would be cool if JVG would agree to be an asst. My TB Bucs new head coach was an OC in ATL. Now his former head coach (and boss)runs his D.
I doubt JVG would go for that, a nice title is another thing. also there is that "family tree" thing. BBall Gods forgive me for wanting Dolan to step in and encourage Phil to hire him.

Yeah i agree and don't want him anyway. I think he's gonna have character problems for whatever team spends big on getting him.

But the additions we make in the next two years would still be here to play with KP when Melo is gone if they're signed to 4/5 year contracts which will give us a couple of years to try to get a championship with Melo and then when Melo's gona we still have KP and the new additions and we also have the 20+ million we'll get from Melo leaving.
