Knicks · This is a broken team with absolutely no identity (page 1)
I can clearly say now that this was a half arsed retool--we DID NOT rebuild--we refuse to play Grant AND we refuse him to play in the D league. Our pieces dont fit together in ANY coherent fashion--we have NO draft pcik and NINETEEN teams have more cap space than we do. AND just adding a player or two --really that does not change the problems here.
I buy much more into the 3-15 than the 22-22 and we are just getting smashed. Ramis has not changed anything--he may be WORSE than Fischer. BUT even a better coach would not do too much with this group--its slow it s to big we dont have nearly the fire power to compete---its a DISASTER And dont believe me--believe the numbers-- teams that are 3-15 and who are behind double digits in 15 of those 18 are not good.
I see nothing good there is zero here.
There's talent on the team, but the roster is not constructed for today's game. Phil built this team like a 1993 Eastern conference 7th seed. He refuses to admit the game has changed, the league has changed, rules have changed.
The problem is Phil and his insistence on the Triangle. I don't think we can move forward with him.

I agree. The team is not even half-build.
It is not capable of playing any system... less one of the most complex in bbal.
Triangle requires players to make in-game decisions at all times.
You need a bunch of highly trained pros with deep fundamentals and a couple of stars to make a difference.
We have one possible future star and 2-3 wets capable of learning the system.
And they are learning but it takes its sweet time.
Its a long road in front of this team. And it is not clear if MSG has a will to wait so long.

Phil has been at the last two games, which is rare.
Isola reported that he was headed to Dolan's suite after the game.
I can't imagine Dolan is happy.

Lets say Phil will be let go or will quit...
So then what?

The sad thing is - it's terrifying. I have no frickin' clue. What a mess.
The good thing about Phil is he has had enough sway to keep Dolan away. But that may be ending.
The idea of Mills leading the team? Meh, we've had that. He was the guy behind the getting Bargnani and not getting Lowry. He's essentially a Dolan stand in.
Somewhere Isiah is licking his chops.

It was clear this will be a long and painful up and down process.
But no... fans and media start rushing the thing again.
"I want it all, I want it now..." And then you burn yourself.
This team was Melo away from starting over... but he and Dolan does not want to let it go.
But its coming this way or another.

I think the problem is the perception that it is getting worse - spiraling.
If they had started poorly again and managed to finish the last 44 games 22-22 the narrative and the vibe would be different.
Really, it seems like what happened was KP's inspired play was hugely important to this team and he's just completely out of gas now. He still scores sometimes, but his energy on D and the boards is largely gone.
Also, I do think the league has figured out how to play this team - make us go small. We DO NOT HAVE THE TALENT to go small. A team plays us big? We can bang them to death with Rolo and KP can take it outside, inside, whatever. Melo can post up a small forward, etc.
This team has to play small and fast? We're doomed.

Very on point.
Knicks have no NBA level guards.
Everybody know this and I guess this is what Phil and Co will going to work on.
Another 2 years and we will be fine if not interrupted again buy some fulls.

Absolutely. I think we should bring in Wroten and Lawson if possible. Grant needs minutes. Maybe start thinking about a buy out for Jose.

You can see him getting frustrated. I said this at the trade deadline - I think it's something he will seriously consider this summer. He even said at the all-star break "thAts not something I'm thinking about right now." I think "right now" is the key part.
I think he will watch the playoffs on tv this spring and seriously talk to Phil about going to the Clippers this summer for Blake. That's my prediction.

BRIGGS wrote:Phil put low emphasis on guards and its killed us. Even in his tweets last year he really down played 3 pt shooting which is the basis for spreading the floor. He shouldnt have gone to his coaches and said do we want Seraphin or Scvhed--he should've made that decision for himself. Knicks also OVER rated Grant drastically.
As did you. That is if we're judging rookies after less than a year.

I still think Grant will get it.
Some here were quick to write off D'Angelo Russell who had 39pts tonight and looked fantastic.
Grant needs consistent minutes - he also needs some shooters to spread the floor and some good picks set so he can run a dang pick and roll. ROLO is our best screener and Grant has hardly ever played with him all season. KP shoots a higher percentage off Grant passes than any other Knicks regular and they hardly play together either.
Grant needs a lot more time before I write him off. And some more PG friendly sets.
