I wanna proclaim myself Tony Wrotens biggest fan. I think it's silly to say this guy can't contribute when he's averaged 16/5/5 in this league before. It remains to be scene if he can do that again.... if he does then we just hit the jackpot. If he doesn't pan out the Knicks lose nothing. I totally believe in this kid. We all should wish him luck.
i'm wishing him luck and hope he contributes very well for the knicks
Maybe the key for this guy is to be a role player with limited minutes to prolong his career. Sure he is young, gifted and "BACK" as many proclaim but until he can get his FT% up and other stat's he could be a good uptempo player for the second unit. Most important, he need be a defender on the ball.
Wron Wron should be thrilled!!
Wroten and Ron Ron are "BACK"!
I hope Wroten has been working on his jumper in addition to rehabbing his knee. Not to mention his FT shooting!
He's got the prototypical physical talent you want for the Athletic Big Guard role in this offense. If he can add a respectable jumper then you really have something!
Like EnySpree I've been high on his talent and fit for this team so I'm excited to see him on the team. I'm really pulling for the kid to find success here. I think the fans are gonna love his aggressive style.
EnySpree wrote:dk7th wrote:it's going to be rough for him if he can't defend the position. i have seen zero evidence he can.
You can't say there is zero evidence when the dude is blocking shots and stealing the ball in these highlights. It's just a garbage statement when you can blatantly see him make amazing defensive plays. The potential is there and there is plenty of evidence
highlight reels are not a great basis for making an assessment of a player. our biggest issue is on the defensive side of the ball in the backcourt. there's a difference between getting steals and being a great defender.
he's a knick so we shall see.
Anyone concerned about how this signing might impact Grant's confidence (or lack thereof)?

Hmm, scary bad, especially for a pg
jump shooting team that signs a guy who couldn't shoot a jumper if his kids life depended on it.
Phil, please explain WTF your thinking.
We have A team with only a rookie who has shown the ability to breakdown defenses... one of the key components to a "Jump shooting team" is to have the ability to create shots for the jump shooters. If there is no one able to attack the paint and make defenses respect the drive to the paint it makes it extremely difficult to find open shots all game.

Nobody can pretend to predict now, its just throwing poop at the wall and seeing what sticks. he brings size, hops and one really sick handle to the table. He's got some huge holes in his game as mentioned above. If he didnt have huge holes he would not be available for the Knicks to sign.Except Briggs who will use this as an example of Phil's hatred of small guards, this signing means nothing. He's just a guy the Knicks want to look at. Maybe he works out. Maybe he's gone by next year.
My prediction is 12 pages.
It's going to be way less than 12.....
But I think his major hole was his injury and the type of injury, which can end a career. But at 22, he has time on his side to recover. And we probably got him at the right time, while he's motivated and mad at all the other teams who left him on the shelf. I like his ability to get to the rim and unselfish vision with his passing skills. His defense is a bonus. Seems like the perfect tall PG for Phils triangle offense. We still need a proven NBA PG as a starter, but he's a perfect backup guard to have....Especially if they want to include Grant in some trade package. They seem to be redundant.
He's def a slasher, and if you learn anything from watching DWill its that a slasher can certainly find good opportunities in this offense. However Grant can also break most anyone down off the dribble and appears clueless once he's accomplished that (impressive) feat. Time will tell... dont know anything about his personality. Considering how close to rotten his name is I have assume he brings it.
Exactly! Grant's biggest issues was how inconsistent he is while he is attacking. He doesn't put fear in opponents while he is driving to the cup.Not yet anyway. Now lets say Grant and Wroten both shoot from the outside at the same percentage. It is clear that Wroten is a much, much better finisher. That alone says this move has brought a talent that we are lacking to this team... on the cheap might I add. it's a good move people.

Jason Kidd
lol yeah let's compare tony wroten to jason kidd

I don't think the Knicks are in any position to be choosy on how we get players.
Bingo. Completely agree.
Wroten is a guy who always stood out to me when I saw the Sixers the past two years. He's certainly a worth a look. I hope he gets a long look.
So i guess Hassim Whiteside is nothing as well.

That includes players like wroten (who im afriad might be damaged goods). Ive been following this kid since he was a jr in HS. he used to be a an even better football player until he tore his ACL (yes the same ACL) and concentrated on basketball. thats why he wasnt high in all the recruiting trails. and now he suffered the same ACL injury last yr. theres no doubt he has physical talent - well at least he did. but this is a gamble - low risk gamble - cuz his career might even be over. who knows but i wouldnt get hopes up just yet. i think it was a smart move to obtain him, rehab him and teach him the triangle (say what you want if you can learn the triangle then youre smarter off for it). with that said, keep looking into these low risk options: Ray McCallum. Like Nixluva and finestrg - im a big fan of his
wow didn't know that, same ACL on same knee? Yikes
Ouch..... hate to hear that about the kid...

For every Whiteside there are 40 Anthony Randolphs and Jackie Butlers. Thats perspective. This isnt a bad signing, just not anything to really get excited about. He's just another guy. Some of these guys pop for sure, but does this guy ever make it into the rotation as a Knick? History says its doubtful. Are there better guys out there more worth a look? I have no clue. Wroten is our guy now... hopefully he does great and gets healthy. Would be a nice story.

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say he's just another guy! That's selling his talent short IMO. People are joking about the value of highlight reels and there's not one guard on this team that you could put a reel together like the ones we see on Wroten. I mean can we at least be honest about that? There are very few PG's that aren't big stars that can do the things he does physically and if he could already shoot we'd have no shot to get him.
IMO it's about fit more than anything. A kid like Wroten did show that he has the ability to play at the NBA level even if he was still a flawed player. I think he could be a very big deal in this system if he can get a handle of the offense and where to attack. I keep going back to Shved who many laughed at when we got him and I was saying from the start that he was capable of fitting in very well in this style of ball.
With Wroten he can create a lot of offense on his own with pure hustle. Pushing the ball, playing the passing lanes and getting steals. We know he's also excellent off Dribble Hand Offs and Screens. We also know that he can create his own shot at will. In addition to all of that he has very good passing skills. He may take a few too many chances but nothing a little coaching can't fix. I think if healthy Wroten is a big deal for this team.
Man the Knicks are bad... 9 pages on Tony Wroten...

If nothing else, they seemingly did their diligence on him. And it sounds like he was rehabbing and they were monitoring that rehab for a few months before signing him. And he really wanted to be here. That last part is so rare at this point that I think it's notable.
its great reading nixluva post about this guy. you would think he was a 5time all-star and mvp candidate.

wasn't james harden leading the league in steals at some point? Good stat!

No one is saying that. He's a 22yr old combo guard who averaged 17ppg when he was 21, he was a top 5 basketball prospect in the nation in high school. He's coming off an injury and played for a team with almost no plan.
At the least I think you have a situation where it's a guy like DWill who is very talented but can hopefully play a lot better in a more organized system with better coaching.
(Whether we have that here with Rambis is still open for debate)
