Knicks · We may be in best situation in this century if... (page 1)

No NBA team can be any good without star players.
-Melo Knicks have nothing.
KP is not ready - he is a prospect.
We have 2-3 solid vets role players and some young possible role players prospects.
If Melo will go to chase his ring and enjoy winning we are top lottery team next year and we DO have our pick!!!
We will have a load of cap room too.
If Dolan still has some brains left he should try his best to bribe Melo into leaving.
We have the best chance in a long time to build solid team next 3-4 years .
I think we are in better situation compared with the one we had before Melo initial signing.
EnySpree @ 3/21/2016 1:23 PM
Omg another trade Melo thread?
jrodmc @ 3/21/2016 1:59 PM
No, really this is very insightful...please go on.
arkrud @ 3/21/2016 2:06 PM
What it has to do with Melo?
jrodmc @ 3/21/2016 2:13 PM
I especially like the part where we are in a better situation now than 23 win Larry Brown/IT teams.

Maybe we can get #1 pick, all our prospects will become stars, and everyone of the top 5 free agents will sign here for 85% discounts.
And our veteran role players will all overachieve, never get hurt and re-sign for the league minimum.

All we have to do is live for TradeMeloNow!

Sorry, am I missing something. Like 2003 through 2009? When we had high first round picks? How did we do? Win anything in 2009? I will make sure to post this in all the other 18 trade Melo, win draft Lotto logic type threads. As well as the "I told you it wouldn't work" posts on all the Laker, Philly, Sacramento, Minnesota, Denver, Milwaukee, Orlando, etc, fan forums.

Why he deserved this punishment?

Exactly right... How team can do any good with Isiah and Co running the show?
You are talking about time when bunch of bbal criminals took over the MSG.

We traded our 1st round pick in 2004, 2006, and 2007 so not really a fair comparison. And in 2008 and 2009 instead of tanking we played hard down the stretch (it's important to build a winning culture) and won meaningless games at the end of the season that fucked up a draft position. The players we were targeting that year were Westbrook and Curry.

Neither idea is good. Why get rid of Phil at this point? We've got a quality Front Court and need to upgrade at guard this summer and continue to develop young talent. We've got Willy coming over next year and he's been looking REALLY good playing with Real Madrid. IMO this team is poised to make a nice leap next year if they can make smart signings.
EnySpree @ 3/21/2016 7:32 PM
We are in the best situation on the century....

cap flexibility, competent leadership, youth and a star to build with by keeping or selling. We're in the beSt situation since before the melo trade. We are in good shape.

Enter the "Thibs for President" concept based on:

His tenure as Celtics assistant was more than anything we have done in recent history.
His tenure as head coach in Chicago was more than anything we have done in recent history.
Promote him to GM/Coach even though he has never done the job.

Or Let Phil who has never done the job, but is 11 times more successful then Thibs keep going.
What unicorn magic man will turn this franchise around in two year and how would they do it?

Stop for a second and think, would it make you feel better to see him hoisting a trophy and having an MJ cry moment in some other uniform?

I don't get what that does for you people.

This franchise had barely crawled out of the crappiest, most embarrassing years of it's existence.
The league had to step in and save us from ourselves and our deranged owner.
We had an insane coach holding press conferences in the McD's drive-thru.
We had the Marbles/FranchiseStevie dream team back court.
We jettisoned all the deadest weight the franchise has ever seen (Curry, JJ) and managed to fuhuck up starphucqing, because nobody wanted to come here except the broken down and uninsurable. Who then burned as the brightest light bulb on the team for a few months and then broke down. And remained uninsured. And untradeable.

In steps the One Who Forced His Way Here by making us part with The Yoots Who Became The Mostly Broken Down And Not Quite What We Envisioned.

We make the playoffs.
We progress past the first round.
Becomes the lone constant in the past 5 years splattered with two week wonders, one season wonders, various flotsam, geriatrics, the brain dead, old coaches, new coaches, old new coaches, GM's hiding in closets, ex-GM's being rehired to look over the women's team, the hiring of the LegendPrez, tanking and tear down.

So now, we are supposed to think it's in the best interests of all involved to wave bye bye and wish him well.

So we can be free to become the...PhilSixers.

Yes, this can be boring for many fans... So hard to get support on this.

I don't quite get your logic.
Melo is making 24MM a year. Not exactly suffering.
Melo is our best player since Ewing or Sprewell. No contest.
How is trading our best player, having the best statistical year of his career good for the Knicks?
Melo wants to be here.
Melo plays the sport of basketball better than anyone else on the team currently.

I just expounded on how we emerged from Reality TV land, but I guess you missed that.
Compare the back pages then to the back pages now.
Do you see any comparison? Seriously?

You don't want Reality TV. You just want the boredom of the Hinkie Sixers, is that it?
I suggest you try hanging out with Sixer fans.
They are having a difficult time garnering any support as well.

You do know every team in the NBA now has cap flexibility with the new TV deal?

Leadership, didn't we just fire a coach after 1.5 seasons?

We have one star rookie to build on. The other one is still debatable whether he's better or worst than THJR.

The star is approaching age 32 in May and we're no close to contending for a chip or bad enough to tank for a high pick.

We have no draft pick this year and we have like 5000 page thread on a Philly castoff in Wroten as our new point guard centerpiece. Willy will hopefully help KP London Bridge some hoes in the back of the club.

Immediate future is bleak. The only free agent Phil nailed was RoLo who's performing up to his contract. What would make things better is somehow getting into the lottery of this draft. Tank 2016-2017 and get another lottery pick, then you would have 2 blue chip running mates for KP to build on. Sprinkle in some free agent role players in that 2 year period, but don't overspend. GO BIG OR GO HOME in 2018:

http://www.spotrac.com/nba/free-agents/2...

That's really the only way.
