Knicks · Buddy Hield--is pick #2 in the draft after Ingram (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 3/27/2016 5:14 PM

and yes I would trade Carmelo for him

Vmart @ 3/27/2016 9:45 PM
He is a senior and they just don't go that high anymore. GMs like upside he is going to go 5-10 area.
Paris907 @ 3/27/2016 10:32 PM
Whether he is # 2 or top 5 I'm okay to trade Melo for it (can we unload Calderon for a 2d rounder too)
callmened @ 3/27/2016 11:17 PM
dude is like 22-23 yrs old. that works against him. most GMs think thats ancient

I dont care if hes 19 nor 23--hes the 1st or 2nd best player in the draft. I wouldnt draft based on age--I mean you look at Brice Johnson--hes a tad over 6-10 and jumps over the square with a gorgeous mid range shot and excellent footwork --because hes 22 im not going to take him high? I like the way some teams were able to play freshmen or HS players by grabbing them in the 2nd round. I like Derrick Jones there. His potential is just as high as anyone in the draft but his game is not developed enough yet--although he was going in the right direction EOY.

But as far as Hield goes--hes a franchise guard who has all the tools for the NBA the way its played right now. Hes strong athletic and has both the high efficiency long game in volume the ball-handling the rebounding and the ability to drive. If you can shoot 3's at 46% from basically the NBA 3 pt line--your game transfers. If Im running an NBA team and my team scks--I want a really good player like that--and Im not waiting and hoping Ben Simmons develops a J even though hes a really good player.

callmened @ 3/27/2016 11:45 PM
BRIGGS. its not about what you or i think. its about what NBA GMs think.

but yes i agree that buddy is a great player who can help a team

He will turn be 23 in late December.

Not sure that Jackson would have an issue with his age if he thought he was the right player and had a chance to draft him.

He does seem to move well without the ball (something Sasha does well, despite some less than wonderful results) and he might take advantage of an offense which rewards players who get into position to score.

Not sure he would get all shot attempts he now gets in college, and I wonder how much an offense has to revolve around him if he is going to shoot as well as he's done this year.

Definitely not afraid to put it up. Assist/TO numbers have never been great, and this year he is at a 2/3 ratio.

All this is academic, though...we ain't getting him.

smackeddog @ 3/28/2016 3:05 AM
I think he'll go no.3- he may be older, but teams will see him as being a Steph Curry esq shooter.
yellowboy90 @ 3/28/2016 4:40 AM
I think he is Redick_esque which is valuable but he will have to put in the work to refine other parts of his game like J.J. did.

He is a Morey D-league special, the game before Oregon I believe it showed his shot chart and the guy only took 17 mid-range shots on the year. 17!

Hes a 6-5 Klay Thompson but he has more handle. I look at the draft this way---rd 1 you want a player who can "play now" a guy you can stick in your rotation--guys like Denzell Valentine Grayson Allen etc.. Rd 2 your are looking for two things--players that you like who slip and then developmental players(guy who could go significantly higher if they stay another year in school) like a low waged bet that you are drafting a lottery pick not yet bloomed.

He is a version of Jodi Meeks. We have guys who did well in the tournament. Guys like Early and Tim Hardaway Jr. How great has McDermott been. These guys are scorers in college but they don't translate to dominant players in the NBA. That senior tag is huge it become men against boys it's a big difference.

callmened @ 3/28/2016 12:27 PM
ill give him more credit to say he MIGHT be a lil better than jodie meeks...maybe a smaller k. middleton. but i agree with your take vmart
wh4t @ 3/28/2016 1:51 PM
He's okay. i think phil is eyeing a guy like Denzel Valentine

Hield is intriguing but comes with ? marks and potential concerns.

What I see is a great scoring college guard -- that may not translate as a great or even VERY GOOD NBA guard.

- He is not 6'5" to my eyes -- he looks smaller by 1.5"-3.0" to me.
- He is not an outstanding passer
- He is not an outstanding ball handler for his size
- He does not appear to defend that great
- He appears to be an average athlete by NBA standards
- He is playing in a system that allows him tons of shots and touches ---- NBA doesn't typically work that way.

NOTE: I had some of the same reservations about S-Curry coming out but was mostly worried about his body holding up. I don't have the same issues with Buddy's body but I also thought Steph was a PG and I think Buddy is a SG so his height/length/athleticism all factor in highly in making transition to NBA.

I tend to agree with other posters on here who referenced high scoring NCAA guys -- lets not forget Morris Almond.

yellowboy90 @ 3/28/2016 6:45 PM
Im not worried about his height that much just look at Beal, McCollom, Clarkson, Bradley, Redick, Bazemore and many others.

Zero concerns

His game has evolved. I say Klay Thompson not in complete game but rather the as the compliment high octane SG.

What I see

NBA range that extends past the NBA line
MUCH improved ballhandling and pace with ball and his body control is now off the charts. Hes a good athlete with a strong body and long arms and uses his evolved skills do do what he wants and much like Steph and Klay--there is not much other defenders can do about it. You need to guard him to 30 feet and if you do he has the skills to go right around you. Klay is not a great assist guy either but thats not the role of a SG--they both move the ball when they need to. Hes all of 6-4/5

I think Valentine would have the same effect as a Porzingis but from the PG position. I love Valentine and would be ecstatic if we somehow got him--Id certainly give up a future #1 pick with low restriction (top 5 protected) to one of these teams with 3 picks each to get him. I think hes a a top 5 player--maybe top 3 but his perceive projection is lower nba draft .net #21 draftexpress #17 Denver picks 15 and 17 so that would be the target. An offer of a 2018#1 pick with only limited restriction and 3mm$

Buddy is the flavor of the day. Like frank the tank, like many that nite in front of us. NCAA has is like a propaganda show, it even has its own music. You get enthralled every year with it. Mateen Cleeves? Kemba? Frank the tank? Look at the ncaa tourney guys that win the MVP, they are not the guys from europe, or the guys that are home working out. GodZingis was in spain last year playing with real men, not in the NCAA tournament. Buddy will be a nice player, but not top 10 in the league. He'll be a 5th or lower player.

Nah this guys been unreal all year.

I agree Hield is #2. But you have Ingram #1? Brice Johnson is tge guy outside of Hield I want the most. Not a great year in the draft IMO. But I think I'd want Brice most. Not into upper class men bigs after Kaminsky?

How many of the guys in the first round are NOT playing? Flavor of the day hype.
