Knicks · Nick Young Not the Only One Upset With D'Angelo Russell (page 2)

GustavBahler wrote:Wow, what a f'ed up thing to do. There goes my Luke Walton to LA prediction. Im guessing that something preceded this like rookie hazing. I doubt this happened in a vacuum. Still, this is the 21st century, social media, pranks like these have become weaponized. You can destroy a person's life with a move like this. Russell actually managed to make Young look like a sympathetic character.
I saw great things for Russell with his skill set, the leadership qualities he had shown before being drafted. Russell seems to be part of a new generation of athlete who go off the rails if things arent going their way. Okafor, Russell, even Cam Newton, cant seem to handle adversity. I doubt that this would have happened if the Lakers were getting ready for the playoffs, no Kobe farewell tour.
Still no excuse for what Russell did and exposes a major character flaw. Couldn't see that on tape. I agree that they should send him to Philly for Okafor, give them both the chance to revive their reps. Russell has a lot more work to do, especially since he is a PG. At least it wasn't KP, already wise beyond his years.
That's a great theory. It would depend on the level of hazing and if it was the kind of hazing that crosses the line. If it was then I would absolve him of some blame. He probably should t have stooped to that level. Wherever he winds up might be years before he shakes this off until he starts to flourish.
But the 2 underlying issues here that has been and will be overlooked is: 1)Byron Scott-How can be allow this thing to get to dysfunctional. Is he just cashing checks? 2)Misogyny has always run rampid in the NBA Anoth LA at the forefront.

Stephen A's basically a clown but he's on point here:

Russell is a teenager. This is what you expect. Oka4 is a teenager. KP was already playing with Men for two years so he has a different perspective. He was also not a big time star yet so he was not worshipped as a child in the AAU environment or highschool where recruitment is a huge ego boost. Then he was the darling freshman so it just feeds on itself.
Too bad Charles oakly just don't come out and slap him at half court. Trade him? C'mon now!
they wouldn't need the oakley treatment if their fathers were not sketchy dudes. can't blame the machinery or every kid on the aau/ncaa/nba conveyor belt would be as f'ed up as okafor and russell.

He I'm sure is having his fun, but you can tell the losing eats away at him. With Russell and Okafor, I don't see it. Both guys seem just happy to be millionaires in the NBA who made it. They both know another major contract is coming in 3 years and are very happy despite being on very bad teams.
Funny thing is that most of the guys from this draft seem to be doing fine and are good guys (at least that is how it seems right now), but from our perspective as Knicks fans, we are looking at the fact that 2 of the players we were really hoping we might fall to us in the draft (Hahn just said he wanted Russell on the radio), turned out to have major personality/maturation flaws which emerged during their first season in the league.
Maybe these are just glitches in their careers, and both of them will turn out be be perfect citizens in the future, but each of their teams must be wondering about how they evaluate potential draft picks and whether they have to make some changes in the process.

Supposedly doing a press conference before their game tonight.
there is no doubt in my mind that more than ever coaches (and organization) have to be that more responsible for their young players. Teach them fundamentals, teach them about life, teach them about financial responsibility, make sure they are responsible on social media, let them know about sketchy strip clubs out in Queens, ingrain a diet and workout routine, and then integrate them into team and basketball.
Not easy.
Anyone still shocked that guys like LT, Lou are signed at vet mins? Not that they solve all problems but they can be $1.65M babysitters, training partners, hotel room watchdogs, late night body guards.
D'Angelo Russell is owed $10M over his first 2 years and is worth a lot more to the Lakers over the long term if he does work out.

lottery protected 2018 pick for Russell, get it done phil. Make sure there is a condition that Russell can only have an old school flip phone without a camera.

I can't possibly be the only one who is astonished that the lakers got blown out by FOURTY EIGHT POINTS.
That's freaking crazy.

And somehow the media averts their eyes at the fact that he has cheated on Iggy with multiple women, yet Russell remains the bad guy. The Lakers are one major cluster f*** of a team.

Snitches get stitches...
Two different codes of conduct were "violated," and even though Russell is justifiably taking a lot of hits, Young's entire world might have been overturned when Russell outed his cheating ways.
Funny thing is that Russell has been linked to one of the KardASSians...wonder how this will affect his status in that world?

watching the laker game and russell does not seem to be isolated at all. At least not on the court / bench.

I was watching a little before too and felt the same way. He looked OK out there with his teammates, like nothing ever happened. I think he had a press conference before the game and probably had conversations with his teammates trying to clear the air. Maybe he made some progress.

that is the laker mother fukkers all year. Byron piece of sh1t and douche kobe has taught them well. Jordan C, Nick Azzhole, Kobe, Randle, they are all blind and selfish ... wonder why.
This kid has been steaming all year. How did I and up with this narcissistic sh1t storm of a team?
I don't think that I can hate anyone right now as much as byron scott and kobe.
WaltLongmire@ 4/1/2016 12:38 AM
^^^^ Channeling your inner D'Angelo Russell, mreinman?
He got thrown into a bad situation, no doubt about it.
Selfish?...they beat Miami, somehow, and for their 37 baskets they somehow managed to have only 14 assists, and this was a home game. Between Kobe, Clarkson, and Russell, they had all of 2 assists.
I don't necessarily want to see the Sixers get lucky and end up with LA's lottery pick, but I'm kind of hoping that the Lakers draw the 4th or 5th pick and lose their lottery slot.
By the way, from what you hear, Russell has been immature from the beginning. He was put into a tough situation with the make-up of LA's roster and the Kobe good-bye tour, but Russell hardly rose to the occasion and showed any wisdom beyond his years.
