I think he'd make a great front office guy. Ewing's personality reminds me of Donnie Walnuts' or Glen Sather's, two guys that I think were relatively successful in NY

If I remember correctly, we offered him the HC job at Erie a few years back and he was insulted by it. I'd love Pat back in the family, but I think it's head coach or bust at this stage, as much as I'd love to imagine Pat being on Thibodeau's staff for our Knicks next year.

Now that talented players are more accepting of playing D-league, I think his stance may have softened. Westchester is also closer to his home. Lastly, he's had trouble being seen as a head coach... maybe gaining Phil Jackson as a mentor would be appealing.

That said, again, I really think he is front office material

This is a tired old topic. Everyone loves Patrick the Saviour Center, myself included.

But I don't think he's head coaching material, or someone would have hired him by now. I mean seriously, Mark Jackson and Monty Williams are head coaches ahead of him? That says more than anything else. Tyron Lue? I think you'll see Linsanity coaching the Knicks before Patrick is.

He's always had issues with the media, and especially here, in the media meat grinder capital of the planet, I don't think he'd play well enough with others.

Water under the bridge.

Quote from Ewing:

“Looking back at it, I should have stayed,’’ Ewing said. “But after 15 years, hearing all the same things, ‘The team is better off without me,’ rumbles in the locker room from teammates that we’re better off without him, you just get sick and tired of it. You hear all the rumblings back then: ‘We need to run and play faster, and we’re better off without him.’ So you know what? Let me go. Go be better off without me. I decided enough is enough and I asked for a trade. Thirteen, 14 years later, I wished I hadn’t done it. I should’ve ended my career there. It’s disappointing I didn’t finish it there.’’

Boy doesn't that sound familiar. Same thing we are hearing about Melo today. When will we learn.

Hindsight is 20-20. Love Pat but his pride did him in.

My point is there is no hindsight here. We are seeing Melo treated just like Ewing was. It was the same with Ewing. Some of us did not want to see him go and did not feel the need to move on from him. The fans drove him away though, blaming him for everything. We see how that worked out. It didn't offer great upside of trade him in that mess just for the sake of moving on, which is what some want to do with Melo just because he is an older player.

I doubt it was the fans though. If he was hearing that in the locker room though, that's a different story.
Pride is a terrible thing. He could have just accepted the veteran presence and gone out gracefully, but he couldn't or wouldn't.

I hated the trade then, I still hate it now. What was the result of moving on from Ewing? One of the worst pieces of shyt we ever received in a trade, and the lasting memory of:
