Knicks · Vets ask Rambis to lower their minutes for the young guys. (page 1)

Well i guess if Rambis doesn't get it at least our veterans do.

Good for Melo, Rolo, and Jose. Pretty sad that it came to that though.
crzymdups @ 3/31/2016 11:56 AM
This is leadership from Melo.

“Don’t get me wrong, I know I still would like to be out there just playing and competing but at this point, if we can build guys like Jerian [Grant] and Langston [Galloway] and D-Will [Derrick Williams] and K.O. [Kyle O’Quinn] and jut giving those guys an opportunity that they probably wouldn’t have or haven’t had in the past I think is good for them. I think it’s good for the morale of the team, I think it’s good for their confidence because sometimes in situations like this you can as a player lose your confidence and that’s something we don’t want,” Anthony acknowledged.

Right. I still think that Phil gave Rambis a certain number of wins he would need to get the full time head coaching job and Rambis was doing whatever he could to get to that number.

I'll tell you what though, i'm just about done with L.Galloway and his horrible play on both ends of the court. JJ Barea was going around him with ease last night and his shooting is brutal.

Seriously? This had to come from our vets, not Rambis/Phil? WTF??

same, I was going to start a thread on that. He had a horrible summer league and then lit the first month or so on fire with his shooting. Hasn't been the same since and IMHO has regressed. Wouldn't want him on the team next year.

It's really sad, but I agree. Had high hopes, but he definitely regressed especially on defense.

WTF indeed teams not on the same page, phil is on vacation , rambis is trying to get a job by playing all the vets and breaking them down, and the vets realize the season is over and looking for building towards next year

yeah, actually its how teams work. Vets want to play they should play. Sometimes there are bonuses attached to minutes, games or stat compiled. Also, Vets might want to win and its disrespectful to be replaced by rookies HAVE NOT EARNED THOSE MINUTES AHEAD OF THE VET!!!!!

So if the Vet is cool with it, then it should be done. It might have been floated to the Vets and its their decisions. Thus, publically you can say it was them.
Anger sells, don't buy it.

I was absolutely ecstatic with the way he was shooting to start the year and was thinking he was gonna have a big year but has been horrible on both ends of the court.

I was an early supporter of his, and he started off well this year, but I've been very disappointed with his "progress."

He's regressed, IMO, as the season has gone on. He's had some good moments, but has not shown the dependability you need to see from a guy in his position.

He is not shooting with the success he's shown at times in the past, he's making poor decisions with the ball, and his D has not been good enough to make us overlook his offensive issues.

Don't know what happened to him, or if there is something going on that we are unaware of, but he seems to be playing himself off the roster, which is sad, because he's shown potential at times.

Edit: Should we be looking at the coaches for not developing his game? We've seen spotty results from Grant, too. Is this another black mark against the system of ball we play, since we've rarely had good guard play since going to the Triangle?

nyknickzingis @ 3/31/2016 3:09 PM
One of the things I really like about this team and it keeps me very interested in them despite no playoffs and limited talent is that they are a team. You can see how they look out for each other and try to be positive for one another. It's part of the culture change. Many fans won't get this but there's a gigantic difference in the basketball culture of the Knicks now vs 2 years ago. This is due to having players like Lopez, Calderon and Melo's maturity as a team player. Rarely do you see this with NBA teams. Veterans want to keep their stats up and look better in trade (and future FA) value. Instead we have guys wanting to see the younger players finish the season on a high so they can come back next year with confidence.

Big props to Melo, RoLo and Jose. I also feel that KP wouldn't have had the season he did if not for the support he got from Melo, Sasha, Jose and even RoLo. The team really looked out for him from start to finish. The only player I question has this mindset is Afflalo. Very me first with a look of disinterest for his teammates.

I've always thought that progress is a combination of both player and coaches. A player can make progress without too much coaching, a player can make tremendous progress with the right coaching; coaches can be successful with some players and have zero success on another player with that same effort.

From rookies or young guys, I want to see an inkling of progress from season to season and to a lesser degree month to month. Even if it is sporadic, it means either the player is doing the right things at practice or on his own time or the coaching staff has a plan for player and is instructing and putting it to use. I see that with Grant, KP, (and Melo, Rolo) nothing from Gallo, DWill, KOQ.

It's great to see our veterans sacrifice their minutes realizing the season is over- and has been over-- and it's much more important at this point to give more minutes to our young players in order to develop (this is something you rarely ever see in professional sports). But what's more telling is that it never should have gotten to this point, where the veteran players have to make the request for what's best for the organization. This should have come from the coach, and if not the coach, the front office weeks ago when the season slipped away. What does it say that it took our players saying something for this to happen with only 6 games left. This entire board has been calling for it for a month?

What young guys Early Galloway and Grant?

players and coaches have visions of grandeur when it comes to themselves...they do not like to deal in reality. teams and coaches that do that... EXCEL. look at the Spurs.
They POWERPOINT too.

I Don't think he's going to be in the NBA next season, after the first month, he had like 1 good game every 15 games.

He better have a "LIGHTS OUT" summer league or he's done

BRIGGS @ 3/31/2016 3:43 PM
Galloway is a 6-1 shooting guard who does not have a great shot. A dime a dozen in the D league. We need to get real.

What value do Galloway Grant and Early even have?
Unless I missed it Derrick Williams started last game and has played all year?

doesn't have great shot, handle, passing, or defense. Good rebounder for his position.
