Just another genius that thought building a championship team is all about stock piling draft picks. Not as easy at most make it out to be. The draft Lotto has many challenges.
The Cult of Hinkie is still strong...
Don't forget, Philly owned by a hedge fund guy. these guys don't make their money replicating what the masses do. They thought with deep pockets they could tank and build something epic doing what most other teams won't do.
That takes balls. When your costing your partners money (other owners) after a while the league must protect itself.
Good idea, but you take the road less traveled you need for things to pan out. They didn't.
I think this is going to turn out a bit like the Jets did after Tannenbaum was fired, the staff steps in and builds with tools previous regime gave them.

right
Hinkie actually should have stayed and road it out in a reduced role. For the guys making the decision on what to do with all of those assets the next few years, Hinkie could have taken credit for creating those opportunities and still staying involved in the decision making process. At the end of the day, he wouldn't have had final say, but if it worked well, his stock would soar. Resigning this way makes him look like an entitled brat who didn't get his way.
and now I think its confirmed that saric is coming this season to philly.

Hinkie would have traded him for a draft pick in 2020

Because he was such a "great" gm?

no. He just made great deals. He had many shortcomings but he left philly in far better shape than we are.

I envy their picks but in reality the Sixers are in No Man's Land. They have to make some deals in order to try and salvage something from the assets they have. Embid and Okafor are somewhat diminished assets. It will be interesting to see what they do with the assets Hinkie left them with.
IMO the Knicks are closer to winning than the Sixers. It will take less to fix the Knicks situation than the Sixers.

Are there any rebuilding teams in better shape than us?

so you can get super 30 pages high on wroten but you can get high on all those philly kids and prospect that they did not throw in the garbage?
Philly has a much better chance to compete for a ring in 5-8 years than we do. MUCH MUCH BETTER.

why? So far they haven't shown the ability to do anything but trade for future picks.
For me, the linchpin is KP. You need the highest level of franchise talent to excel in playoffs. You can certainly go far without it but only the most unique teams (or situations) will go to finals without it.
Toronto, Boston, Detroit, Charlotte, Atlanta are prime examples of that for me. All of those teams can play their asses off and quite possibly make it to the Conf Finals but without that key talent, you are only built for 1 season runs and most likely only a second round playoff team.
Last year's Atlanta team started to have that feel of Larry Brown's Detroit team but are too old (Korver) and now lost a key element (DeMarre Carroll). If they could have stayed together for like 3-4 years, they could have busted through that Franchise talent gap.
Based on Philly having 4 lotto picks in the last 3 yrs. They should be farther along then they are in theory. Having all those future picks gives them a ton of potential. But they need something tangible out of it and until they get that...
Dating back to 07. Philly has had 12 first round picks and 6 lotto.

I literally can't make heads or tails of the future picks that Philly has. I know they got Lakers this year but it is top 3 protected, unprotected next year. What else?
