he could be an asset but the is only a tiny chance that it will happen.

Is that because you don't think he will recover?

no. Its because I think that he will suck even IF he gets healthy

You can't just go on past performance when it comes to young players. Gauging talent and how a player will develop is not a science. You can play the odds game which is always going to suggest failure since so few players actually become good. That has NOTHING to do with Wroten as an individual in this particular situation. It's like trying to predict the lottery based on past lotteries. It's not how it works.

Here's what you need to keep in mind and forget all the crap you think matters! The very specific role Wroten will be filling in the Triangle on this Knicks team actually fits his raw talents. If he's healthy and can perform at the level he's shown in the past then he can find success in this system. He's got prototypical talent for the SG role in the Triangle. He needs to improve his jumper but his size, quickness, handles, driving ability, passing, aggressiveness pushing the ball and getting to the basket all fit what is needed.

They still have to develop him as any young player needs to learn the game but that's the point. He's not being brought in as a finished product. Dude is just turning 23!!! Low cost. Low risk. High Reward.

I disagree about Wroten but I saw this old article from Wages of Wins. They nailed it on Perry Jones and were pretty close on a lot of the guys in their article.

so they pretty much were already calling out wroten for looking like he can do it all yet the stats say that his shooting sucks enough to make him bad overall. Not much has changed with him.

They pretty much got their entire list right. Marquis Teague, Quincy Miller, Austin Rivers ... I think Wroten is a good lw risk, high reward prospect.

wages of wins is great and guess what ... they are mainly stats driven.

Berri is a pretty well known guy. This isn't news is it?

nixluva @ 4/10/2016 12:53 AM
What is going to matter most is that Wroten will be put into a role that requires what he does best. He is a Push Guard. He has handles and aggression in the half court and looks to penetrate. He has size and quickness to defend both guard spots. He has holes in his game but in his role with the Knicks it will highlight his strengths and minimize his weaknesses.

He won't be required to run the offense like a Jason Kidd or CP3. The decisions he'll have to make with the ball are reduced, especially if he is put in the Pinch Post as expected. That 2 man game on the wide open side of the floor is tailor made for him.

did I say its news? Berri also called Melo quite overrated. That is not news either.

this may be a blue print for all bad players that look promising to the eye. Unfortunately, almost all of them fail.

Berri is all about stats but he also is vey well known. Saying Wages of Wins is totally stats driven sounds like you think others don't know that. Duh! It's like quoting a guy that fabricates stories when it fits your agenda. Everybody else knows the deal. Most posters here are very knowledgable about basketball. It is why the forum is so good.

most posters here don't know who david berri is and the ones who do know it because posters like me use it to push their agenda against smug posters who don't do much more than police others.

and please don't change my quote to fit your agenda.

Overall = just think of AND1 mixtapes over intelligent basketball. i think the triangle will help discipline him. my only concern with him is whats left of his physical ability

I've got the same concerns esp. the regaining top athleticism part. Hopefully the extra rest the Knicks are giving him (great idea--smart) helps him recover better. But, man, it's hard not to get excited over the potential, esp. in a year with no draft pick. The knee's a tricky thing but guys make it back all the time now. The 2nd concern is his outside shooting -- hopefully with a ton of reps in the gym he can get that 3-ball up to a respectable number (hoping for 35% eventually).

Wroten/Hernangomez to hopefully go along with another solid 2nd round PG Phil can hopefully come up with (Yogi Ferrell, Kay Felder, Marcus Paige?) -- that'd be a nice young trifecta to import considering we don't have a pick. Realistic too, which is all I try to focus on now. Wroten's already in the mix, 90% sure Hernangomez is on the way (unless he asks for crazy money) and a high to mid 2nd rounder shouldn't be too hard to obtain (thinking cash and the rights to Louis Labeyrie can get that done). Maybe we could even crack the end of the 1st round if we decided to include Grant in a deal.

callmened @ 4/10/2016 11:55 AM
to be honest folks...it wouldnt surprise me if wroten makes the team, becoes our starting PG. then averages 12ppg 5 asts with bad shooting but improves the perimeter defense. it ALSO wouldnt surprise me if wroten plays over the summer, the knicks dont like what they see and CUT him. thats how SERIOUS this knee injury is
