Working hard, finally getting PT. Looking like he can be a real rotation player next year, if not more. Exciting to see.

He definitely has his confidence back a little. Another positive to come out of this season, along with KP and Rolo.

Reminds me a little of how Wilson Chandler's rookie season was lackluster and he had a very promising April after struggling all year.

This is a good thing for Jerian going into the summer. We're gonna have a pretty good batch of young players in development this summer, with KP, Jerian, Gallo, Wroten, Willy, Early etc. getting together and hopefully supporting each other this summer.

Gallo is a has been. Please release him. We're not going anywhere with Gallo on the roster.

Interesting place to post this... but I kinda agree. He's just too physically limited to be a shooting guard and he's not a point guard. If he could become a knockdown 3pt shooter, he could find value. I wouldn't mind bringing him back on a small small deal, but he really needs to become a knockdown shooter.

i warned you guys, please beware of march and april stats where legends like tim frazier get near triple doubles

with that said i do think its a positive sign of encouragement

It's not like he was getting playing time before. I'm aware of April aberrations, but I don't think that's what this is.

From ESPN—

Carmelo Anthony was asked what makes him "excited" about the future of NYK. The question, of course, assumes a lot. Anthony cited the team's rookies in his answer. "Jerian (Grant) showed the last three weeks of the season what he's capable of, the type of player he can be. He has a lot of upside. Of course everybody's seen KP what he can do out there. He has some upside. So the young talent that we have on this team, the sky's the limit if they working like that."

That's funny considering Gallo has the 2nd best Win Share 48 of all the guards on the team. Jose was at a WS/48 of .096, Gallo at .080 and Grant at .025. Not great but he's closer to being a solid NBA player than Grant had been all season. I think Gallo can get better and could become an average NBA guard off the bench. He's not far off of that right now. Grant has a higher upside and hopefully he'll surpass Gallo next year in terms of his season long production. If he does that would be a great development for the team.

Great quote. Thanks for posting it. If Phil ends up with two starters and a rotation player from the last draft i think you have to consider it a huge success.

Chicken or the egg? One assumes he would have done this all year if given the minutes? He has looked awful at times this year.
Improvement comes sometimes from NOT playing.

If we had our pick I might have advocated that we give rookies minutes AND posture for a better pick at the same time. But not this year.

Yeah...you would have a much better feeling about this late season success if it had happened over a longer period of time, but I still find it promising.

Just frustrating that the added playing time had not started earlier.

You don't expect role players to take you anywhere.

Should've been Jerian Grant in October, November, December, January, February, March.

Let rooks be rooks if you're "rebuilding". No way Jose should've started as many games as he did.

I love that Grant is working on his floater which is something i've been saying all year that every point guard should have. A good floater can change his game for the better while he's working on getting better with his outside shot.

Comparing Gallo's numbers to the other guards on our team is absolutely ridiculous and you know that Nix. I haven't seen much if anything that says Gallo will be a legit 2nd guard coming off the bench so i really don't care either way if we bring him back or not but if we do he needs to be a 3rd guard off the bench. He's lost all confidence in his shot and we know who can shoot when he has his confidence because we've seen it.

I'm not here to shake my fists at the sky over what could've been. I'm just observing what is actually happening.

I tend to agree that Grant had to learn on the floor, in practice, and watching from the bench to get to this point.

His minutes were not great this season, but at least he's ending on a positive note.

Gallo got better from the previous season! A WS/48 of .080 is closer to the NBA average WS/48 of .100. If he continues to improve he can easily become a solid player for this team. Dude was an undrafted player and he did in fact getting better from his rookie season.

For comparison with other free agent SG's! Just look at their WS/48's.

The thing is Grant already had the full package coming into the league. He has a vicious floater. He had a hard time with confidence and the speed and physicality of the game. This is the Grant that should have stolen the starting spot out of training camp.

How could Grant have stolen the starting spot when he was too busy learning triangle concepts from a coach that barely wanted to run it and was too busy chasing big'uns instead of developing his young'uns?
