I'm fine with that. I agree with you about adding Pau Gasol or David Lee. There were so many games this season that were lost the second KOQ or Seraphin stepped on the floor as the third big man off the bench.
We need to upgrade there.
Before we go adding to our front court, could we take care of the back court? Its the bigger hole on our roster moving into next year and beyond.
KP, ROLO, Melo, KOQ & D Williams & Lance (if they come back) as a group is a fine front court, especially if we can add some talent to the back court.

I see it quite differently. I see a player who improved quite dramatically during the season. He had zero post game and zero offensive focus prior to the year and showed that he could do both. He played without any penetrating guards, something that will help him get even more easy buckets.
If I remember correctly, Rolo had trouble guarding certain types of guys during the year, his brother, Vucevic, Cousins and Gasol brothers, guys can shoot the 20 footer with ease; I recall him matching games Whiteside, DHoward, Pau (when he was hurt), Cousins for one. Rolo needs to shore up the D from distance and also get a shot that is FT line extended range. Needs to keep the ball high when he receives it in the post and keep the ball moving quickly.
For his age and the position he plays, I can't think of another C that I would want for the contract he's on at $13M. That's more than a bargain. He is going to protect KP for another 2 years and then he can be moved or moved to bench. Care to offer up any other C on non rookie contact that you would sub out for? http://www.basketball-reference.com/cont...
He's a team player and fierce. I like him as part of the puzzle for a team that could win 50-60 games with other players.
We finally agree on something.
Although, with the way fisher wanted to speed up the pace early in the season, he was on the bench for much of the 2nd half of games (which made no sense to me) even though it was the bench doing much of the struggling in late November and December.

He also had a higher WS/48, Drtg, BPM, and VOrp. However the difference in the latter three is tiny and Lopez costs less so its all good.
Monroe needs a WS48 of close to .300 to make up for his alligator arm defense.
BRIGGS ain't taking the bait, mreinman. Give up.
Man, Rolo plays a little better last night, and we possibly win that game. Or Rolo plays with KP and Melo and we win that game...
Robin Lopez wasn't brought here to save the manatees. he's been more than effective and in my opinion greatly help to get the offense flowing in the frontcourt. He's got a lot of basketball IQ and impacts the game in other ways than scoring. I've seen what Eddy Curry can do and I am very happy with RoLo
Have to be pleased with Robin. He does exactly what is needed. I hope Phil doesn't touch the front court. Continuity is key.

It's interesting that their career WS ratings are exactly the same: .135! I think if Monroe had to adjust to the triangle and Lopez were in Detroit, all of Lopez's #s would be better than Monroe's. I wish you could tell BBall reference to give all these advanced stats just for the 2nd half.
Write them! You'd be surprised at how many site and site owners respond

Man if you made that T for Rolo I'm sure he'd wear it

Defense is already incorporated in the WS rating, although it's not a perfect measure of defense. It incorporates Oliver's defensive rating statistic.
that is borderline worthless
Monroe was had on a pretty good deal with Miluakee as well. He only signed for 3 yrs with the 3rd yr being a player option. He could become a free agent after next season. Since the fit doesn't seem to be there, it was a smart move by both sides.
As for Rolo, I didn't like the signing at the price when it happen. But he has been a very good pick up for us this past season.
Lopez much more a part of the solution than a part of the problem for Knicks.
Third best move in Jackson tenure so far (with Anthony & KP) . . . all in the frontcourt.

How familiar with it are you? I'm pretty sure it goes way beyond the simple box score stats like rebounding and steals.

Thanks. That's a helpful explanation. I don't think a few anecdotes disproves the stats but the writer's reasoning is strong too. It gives me a lot more to look into when I get a chance. So all these years you've been mentioning players win shares but you really only care about the offensive win shares? Why do you mention the total win shares rating?

That's a good idea. The 82games website never responded when I wrote. I think that site is completely dead. BBall reference is probably more likely to write back though.
Are the Bucks a worst team defensively with Monroe on the court? Are there any numbers that prove Lopez is better defensively?

I liked the 82games site but I think you are right, they gave up doing their thing.
Sites want you to come back and use them as a resource, you give them a good idea that others would also like, they'll add.

I do that because things are complicated enough for fans or posters to comprehend. Quoting that as a whole is the easiest route.
I still rely on my dumb eyes for defense.

Fair enough. That makes sense.
