Arron Afflalo says that a desire to a start will be one of the factors he weighs as he decides on his 2016-17 player option, which is worth $8 million. "I still believe I'm one of the premier two guards in this league and part of being an elite two guard in this league is opportunity," Afflalo said. "You have to be in a certain environment where you can excel and show what you can do and hopefully that contributes to winning. And I still believe I'm that player so I'll find the best opportunity for me whether it's in New York or anywhere else."

He has no idea how bad we want him to opt out! LOL. He simply isn't right as a starter for this team. There will be some team that needs a SG so he should opt out.

we have said this about every sg we had since spreewll..like JR, Crawford, shumpert, larry hughs, penny.
The list is endless, and you look at the FA list, there's 15 more AA on it, thinking the same way, with the same skills.
I think he is a starter in the right system, with the right coach. The guy had to create on damn near every shot attempt, and he's no MJ or KOBE, and there's no FA that's remotely close.
Who are we really kidding, is there someone that much better than Afflalo out there. No coach in the NBA would play sasha over AA, they did that because of the TRIANGLE.

No they did that because Affalo thinks he's Jordan and he is nothing more than a back up guard on a good team. He's not better than Marcus Thornton or Eric Gordon both of which ate free agents this off season.
A starter in the right system with the right coach? Two good reasons to let him go. He's not a team player. He wants to get his over the team. Calling himself elite proves that.
If we can't get an upgrade over Sasha I would rather keep him in the starting line up. At least he's bringing it on both ends every night and not crying over shots and role.
I think some of you guys would rather suck jock straps and coach crotch than build a team.

He is a perfect 6th man. Too bad he does not want to embrace it. Instant spark off the bemch. However, with his lack of all around game, he is not suited to be in the starting lineup. Think we all found out why so many teams have moved on.

They've assigned a fitting role to Afflalo, and at the same time also increased odds for greater capspace. If Afflalo opts out, the Knicks will have a maximum cap slot available to pursue Lebron or Durant. Not that either will likely leave their teams to come to the Knicks, but it puts the Knicks in a better situation cap wise. They can go look for a better fit at guard, than the older less capable Affalo/Calderon combination we had this year.

This is exactly right. I was really hoping he would embrace the 6th man role because it suites both the Knicks and Afflalo perfectly going forward. Part of putting together a good team is making sure everyone is content in their roles and have a realistic sense of their contributions. Afflalo clearly doesn't have that and isn't interested. Seems like the type where starting is more important than winning. I was hoping that wasn't the case but that isn't a good fit in the culture we are trying to build so hopefully both parties move on.

I think a lot of that has to do with (1) how good the Warriors are and (2) AI2 won't ever have to worry about money. AA however is probably trying to get one last payday and riding pine on this garbage team won't accomplish that

I don't know. He never brought that "next level" energy you want from an "elite" guard. AA did have a couple of breakout games, but it was never sustainable at his end. He NEVER had a shutdown defensive effort. Rather, he was a liability, just like Calderone. Sasha brings enthusiasm whether he starts or comes off the bench. If he was given AA's minutes, his game would have come around sooner. Good bye AA, hope you find that spot you're looking for.

The thing that Sasha brought was defensive energy, pushing the ball and getting the team into the offense faster, moving without the ball and actually passing the ball effectively. Sure Sasha isn't a very good player but the general manner in which he played was better for the team. If Sasha had more talent it would have had a better impact. AA simply can't pass effectively, doesn't push the ball, can't defend and has no ability to get the Knicks into the offense in the right way. Sasha actually knew the offense and what to do.
I hated the signing from day 1 so im glad he is gone soon
