Knicks · M.Conley expected to leave Memphis in free agency. (page 3)

hard to stomach touching Conley coming off this injury. If he was healthy fine... but this wreaks of Amare/Grant Hill/McDyess etc etc

That and he's never proven to be an all-star, or top 5 player at his position, and to pay him Melo money would be a hard sell. This is the classic Knick move of the past, that I believe and have faith Jackson realizes would be a mistake. The problem is it's a double edged sword. If Knicks don't sign a big name free agent, they'll be talk about failure, the team sucking, etc. all summer and going into the season. If they do sign someone like Conley, they'll be a small excitement phase and maybe even the Knicks are a playoff team next year. However what about more than that? What about in 2 or 2.5 years? Where would they be then? In particular a 33 year old Melo and 31 year old Conley making a combined 50+ million dollars. Porzingis right at that time would be getting a huge new extension as well. We got to think about all these things - and I'm confident Jackson is.

wait a second, why would conley come here again?

stupid $$$$$$$$$

callmened @ 4/20/2016 10:25 AM
that's right $$$$. should the knicks give him max $$$ like he wants and therefore have 10 mill on every one else they need. lol

We need to get two of the top guards to come in and sit down with Phil and our front court of Melo, KP and Rolo for an interview and sell those two on playing with our front court. They want to win, well if you put lets say M.Conley and N.Batum or D.Derozan and R.Rondo with our front court then they will win and they'll do it playing in the Mecca that all these players always talk about how much they love playing at the Garden. The problem would of course be that they'd have to take a reasonable contract to make it happen but players were doing this just a couple of years ago.

Let me dream you bastards.

What we need is another high quality big a two way 2 g who plays more of a team game than Affalo some spacing 3 pt shooters some new bench players and a 15 th man we can develop

If we want kp for 12-15 years we need to keep his minutes at 30 but we don't want to drop quality of play when he sits

Oh yeah we need Calderon gone

I think your ideas of bringing in DLee or P Gasol are great ones. I agree the drop off when KOQ or Seraphin came into the game was insane and cost us many games.

Calderon killed us on D.

Afflalo killed us with his inconsistency and yes selfish play.

Need to upgrade PG, SG, and hopefully 3rd big man.

I applaud Briggs for at least attempting to find value where most are starphuckedly unimaginative!

My take is I'd rather wait for Westbrook next year instead of Conley. I don't know who phil wants or not, but this is the dude that took Jordan and Kobe natural talent and coached them to what they became.
If he thinks conley is his man, im good with that.

Media gonna be on his ass either way. If he signs a big name, they'll say its dumb. If the don't, they will say he can't attract the talent.
If he blows us away this summer, we won't see it coming.

Amare in our history has no bearing on the future.

To me the no brainier is Curry no matter what anyone says. In the triangle you need that pg to hit that open 3 make a smart play have the ability to drive and play a part of a good team defense. I don't think we need a star or even a ball hawk that's why I like curry. Blaze more is a better version of a gs than affalo

i like the dream approach. THink of how many rings we can put on the table.

personally i'd prefer a push for Durant and/or Derozan. Durant because he's awesome in so many ways on/off court. And he's already been on stacked teams and lost. Phil could sell the missing ingredient is a playoff-winning system. Strangely, though he'd be a tougher fit than Derozan (it's just the undeniable talent). Derozan intrigues me more and more. His game continues to improve and he seems to have that triangle game. Big question will be whether he'll be better still if he's not the other teams primary focus on D (as he currently is) or whether he'll be worse from having to share the ball more.

I also like Batum and Barnes

WOuldn't touch Rondo -- too risky as an individual and also his game. Never been hot on Conley and trending down IMO: too old, too short, and too expensive. Add to that now maybe too risky (with injuries). My guess is Memphis has already told him they're not giving him big money. Otherwise his actions make no sense, especially given his lobbying for M. Gasol. We want guys to come to the Knicks for the reasons you say above-- i.e., the dream, not because we're simply paying more money. That never works

"We are undefeated in re-signing our core players, and we will remain so. We are going to re-sign Mike Conley" - Chris Wallace
— Chris Vernon (@ChrisVernonShow) April 20, 2016

IDIOT GM, you are resigning players just to stay competitive and made 1 deep run in the playoffs...smh

Time to change up, isn't it obvious your roster is only so good and you keep resigning the same guys that cant take pass the 2nd round, and are starting get injured more frequent

HOLY SHIT. A full max for Mike Conley is 5yr $150M from Memphis. BYE, MIKE! ENJOY MEMPHIS.

Especially since there is a lockout coming in 2017 and we have no idea what the cap will look like for years 2-5 of that contract.

Max contracts signed this summer could cripple the cap if the league winds up lowering it in a lockout.

I like Grant and Wroten.

How do we get a mid-range pick? Last year we had Hardaway to trade. We don't have any young assets to trade worth a mid first round pick, unless you are talking about Grant and I think you'd be hard pressed to get one for Grant right now.

Denver has 3 mid range picks I think we can offer our 2018 pick top 5 retricyed for one

That is a big risk of a trade. Melo might not even be here and could be looking at a top 10 pick. We could suck in 2018 and end up with nothing, lost out on a 6-10+ pick, for a chance at mid first this year? And FA is a big if right now. 2017 is our best chance to change things around, you got that but it is no guarantee.

Curry did decline his $1 million option for next year making him a RFA so we'll see what happens with him. So Jeff Van Gundy just said that M.Delladova will get at least $10 mil per from whoever signs him this off season and M.Jackson sounded like he was gonna choke when he said it...lol

If Conley is willing to play here (huge if) you pay him. Sure it's a risk but we have to take some risks. If healthy I'd rank Conley as the 6th best pg in the league. He would probably put us in the playoffs next year which is gonna be a requirement if we want to be players in free agency going forward. Wed still have plenty of cap space the following season. The cap is projected to be 110 mil. I know they're gonna renegotiate the cap but you're crazy if you think the cap is gonna go down. The new head of the players association doesn't play around,

Hmmm, 6th best? S.Curry, Westbrook, Lillard, Lowry, Chris Paul, Kyrie, I. Thomas, Teague are all currently in the playoffs. I wouldn't place in front of any of these. not even over John Wall, Rubio, Reggie Jackson or Dragic either.
