Bet they make the playoffs next year.

lol the fact that layden can get another job is pretty crazy. minnesota can't help themselves but always find a way to screw something good up.

He was assistant GM with the Spurs...

He was a really bad GM, but being part of the Spurs organization is a get out of jail free card. Just going through the motions there and being a "yes man" in that organization was bound to get him a new opportunity at some point. If he's an assistant GM for any other team (maybe with exception to golden state) he never gets interviewed for a GM job again.

Other than the Shandon Anderson and Howard Eisley contracts, I think a lot of what Layden gets blamed for in NY were actually Dolan's call. Camby trade. Ewing trade. Sprewell trade. All Dolan.

They can do that with D.Fisher or K.Rambis as their coach cause they have a ton of talent.

Yeah, I'd go so far as to say I don't think you can really judge any of the GMs/Presidents under Dolan. It's not an environment where anyone can thrive. If Phil has full authority, then the comment applies only to the ones before him, though.

I'm sure he has learned from a lot of his mistakes from all those yrs ago. Different situation as well since Knicks were a playoff team which he tried to maintain that level of success with short sited/mediocre moves. Now he is in a situation with a lot of young talent who are trying to reach the next level.

Nalod @ 4/20/2016 1:29 PM
He helped build Stockton and Malone into perennial winners, and got ignorant in ny.

Like all those after him as well.
Neophyte GM don't make decisions on McDycss, ewing........Ewing trade value was worthless with is contract.
That shyts all on dolan!

That is a ton of money. Still less than Phil's deal to only be President and don't forget we gave Fisher $20M

That is crazy. For a coach who hasn't won a chip.

Good for Thibs if he takes it, a local guy from Connecticut, first and foremost. He cut his teeth working as Jeff Van Gundy's first lietenant for many many years. Instrumental as Doc Rivers defensive coordinator during Boston's championship run, and widely regarded and respected around the league for his work with the Chicago Bulls.

He stated repeatedly to the media and to his friends and players that New York was his dream job. That there was no better place.

Unfortunately for us and Thibs, we got "Zenned" out of the running. Book the T-Wolves to be serious contenders within 3 or 4 years. No way they won't, not even with Scott Layden taking a dump in the front office.

Congrats Tom!

Layden was only ever intended to be the number 2 (kind of like how Mills is to Jackson) the plan was Checketts would make the decisions and Layden would do the leg work. Unfortunately Checketts got canned and Laden was left in a primary role- which he was hopelessly I'll suited for. He should be fine as Thibs right hand man.

I really really wanted Thibs as our coach so this Stings. However twolves is a great situation for him- he really got screwed by the bulls so I hope he does great.

Also I think JVG will go to the rockets
