Knicks · OT: Luke Walton is the new Head Coach of the Lakers (page 1)

yellowboy90 @ 4/29/2016 10:17 PM
Staying on the west coast.
callmened @ 4/29/2016 10:26 PM
makes sense
nixluva @ 4/29/2016 10:28 PM
YUP! Phil probably got the heads up when he called him. Luke was holding out for that Lakers job.
NumberTwoPencil @ 4/29/2016 11:21 PM
Maybe the Lakers will go 0-24 to open the season next year . . . Walton will get to coach a record breaking team again!

I guess the Lakers job is marginally better than coaching the Knicks but they are a few years away from being the new, oh, Toronto or Portland. It's gonna be tougher than coaching GS.

Malcolm @ 4/30/2016 12:36 AM
Bad move for Walton, in my opinion.

I think he's going to be sorry about this . . .

knicks1248 @ 4/30/2016 12:44 AM
Smh, seems like the only one listening to phil is melo

What does this even mean? Not too hard to understand Luke wanting the Lakers job. Gets to stay on West Coast, his old team and with young core there's no pressure to win right away.

smackeddog @ 4/30/2016 3:30 AM
As expected- curious to see if he's any good. It will be a tough situation for him- Russell has been exiled by the rest of the team, and they will either lose this years first rounder or next years.
wargames @ 4/30/2016 5:38 AM
Now it's down to Blatt or Rambis........ Please, please be Blatt
Nalod @ 4/30/2016 7:03 AM
Love the media take that Walton to lakers "Crushed" knick dreams. Thats a great gig for him and the publicity he can bring them.
It buys them some time while the yoots develop.

They got lots of cap space, but also have contracts coming up. Clarkson needs to get paid, and they need a lot of things.
Its got to be his dream job to be able to stay in LA. Good for him. I hope somehow he is very successful while the lakers flounder. Phuck them!

Cmon Nix, phil isn't attracting any marquee Names with this triangle stuff, especially when your asking coaches and players to compromise their skill set to meet Phils triangular plan. It's not encouraging, that's all im saying.

Why wasn't Rambis a candidate for the lakers gig, they love to hire their former players, I guess his sparkling 24 13(1999 season) record was just an aberration, because all it got him was a demotion.

yea... and thank god those things never happened.
crzymdups @ 4/30/2016 11:31 AM
Man, so Phil couldn't sell KP over D'Angelo Russell?

I love that the reasoning of a lot of folks here was that Rambis was okay because it'd eventually be Walton. What now, fellas?

I would like Blatt, but Phil is proving to be pretty bad at this.

Also dudes were telling me yesterday Kerr and Walton were both part of his coaching tree. Weird that both guys turned him down, no? Maybe they don't wanna be on that tree. Kerr at least went to a better roster. Walton did not.

I await nixluva telling me this all part of Phil's master plan. Unless Phil's master plan is to go back to the Lakers, I ain't buying it.

crzymdups @ 4/30/2016 11:33 AM
Phil is either very bad at this or angling to be back in LA in one year.

In which case, thanks for not interviewing Thibs, Phil.

EnySpree @ 4/30/2016 12:45 PM
All you want to talk about is the drama.... the drama that you speculate.

Truth is Luke wanted to coach the Lakers not the Knicks. That's it.

Truth is Phil has won more rings than anyone yet he gets disrespected more the last two seasons than anyone in the history of basketball.

For the record - I agree. He should've stayed in GSW for another season. That Lakers job is a revolving door.

The Lakers will get the top pick in the draft. It's a good situation. They have plenty of young players. The are rebuilding just like us. Problem is the Lakers don't get bad press even with Legit reasons to bash them. Plus the weather is nice and the women are plentiful.

MS @ 4/30/2016 1:10 PM
We are in a tough spot.

The Knicks are not an attractive job. They have been one of the worst franchises in the NBA for the better part of 15 years. Ownership has benefitted from a delusional passionate fan base that keeps coming back year after year no matter what the team does.

The Lakers are still the lakers. They have cap space and if they maintain a top 3 pick they are in a much better position long term. KP is an exceptional talent, but NY pressure, media, weather isn't sending anyone running here with Dolan at the helm.

Phil broke the cardinal rule of keeping things in house. Players talk and airing private conversation although entertaining is a classless move.

It's been 40+ years since this team has won anything. It's a bottom of the barrel franchise. You can't sell what we have become.

You have a smug general manager that is insisting on running an offense without the fire power for it to be effective. Running a voluntary workout after a 33 win season isn't making the perception of this team much better.

Until we clear enough room to bring in two all star level players we will continue to be in the lottery, while charging top 2 ticket prices.

In all honesty you get what you deserve and the Knicks have been getting it for 15 years. So until the perception changes we are not getting anyone meaningful to join the organization.

He look old as phuck in this picture! Forget about his job with the Knicks, I'd be very very surprised, if this isn't Phil's last season in the NBA PERIOD, let alone going back to Los Angeles. He just looks so weary at this point of his life/career.
