The goal of the Triangle is to place scorers very close to the basket and use motion, screens and passing to create the space needed to get great shots and lanes to attack the rim. We lack enough guards with breakdown ability to help make it all work. Also need more push of the ball and fast breaks to get more easy buckets per game. Without those elements the spacing is going to get bunched up.
Without the speed and athletic ability you end up with too much halfcourt and also not enough penetration when in the halfcourt. That makes things easy for the defense. Phil clearly wants to fix this aspect of the roster. It's the reason he drafted Jerian and why he's taking a flyer on Wroten. We can expect him to look for more guard help.

The Knicks showed they could beat Atlanta handily in back to back games this season, showing they had similar or better talent than Atlanta. My point is talent is just as important if not more.....over the system. For example......I was never a Phil fan. I thought his talent won games.....not his system . I was hoping he would prove me wrong.....so far my predictions were right. We'll see next year if we improve. But based on history, Phil had to get lucky in the draft to kick start his championships.....hopefully KP is our MJ/KOBE.

Can we first have a legit starting 5 that doesn't get exposed? Then a bench that keeps the momentum going. Then we can say the system made us win games......just to make the Phil fans happy. The truth always goes bavkvto talent and chemistry. Usually if you have legit basketball talent....chemistry will flurish.....in a STABLE environment. 4 coaches in 5 yes......which is 4 different systems and GMs.....is not stable. But Melo was , regardless of the system, coaches or gm. Melo is an example of having talent. Talent shines regardless of the system.

So you don't think the system, designed by Greg Popovich pupil Mike Budenholzer has anything to do with their success? It's all their top notch talent?

My point is that some people here, including yourself, tried to claim Walton was a member of Phil's coaching tree. If that were the case, wouldn't he run the Triangle?
And we know Phil wanted to run the Triangle. So the fact that Walton didn't even interview here might have had something to do with the fact that Phil told Walton he'd be expected to run the Triangle.
I think it is extremely noteworthy that one of Phil's supposed top Triangle-friendly coaches has zero interest in running the Triangle.
