This kid has a good head on his shoulders.
Can't wait to see him after a summer of working on his game.
See? I can post positive things sometimes, too.

Some more things he said (source http://www.delfi.lv/sports/news/basketball/news/kristaps-porzingis-nepalidzes-latvijas-izlasei-rio-kvalifikacija-teksta-tiesraide.d?id=47386505)- His shoulder is at 99% at the moment and will be at 100% in a week
- It's easier for him to walk the streets in Latvia than in NYC because people in Latvia are less forward and approach him less even though they recognize him
- His second season in Spain was not as good as the first one and he's aware he has to work hard in order not to let it happen in New York as well
- A Knicks coach (for physical conditioning) will join him in Latvia soon and help him with the summer workouts
- He learned the triangle very quickly and even helped teach it to some of his teammates. He thinks the triangle should be adapted to the modern basketball
- About his goals for the next season: "The fans in New York want me to have 25 points in every game and the team to win the championship (laughs). I have no set goals, I just have to do the best I can."

That bolded part is verrrrrrrry interesting. I agree with that and it is basically my main complaint with Phil not budging. GSW adapted the Triangle. You have to keep adapting. Triangle is all about counter moves... that should mean Phil is open to adapting it with new counters...

I am tending to side with this assessment. All the successful Phil disciples are applying the principles of the triangle to essentially seven seconds or less. I am more than okay with a similar approach. I always thought the flaw to Pringles' approach was the general lack of structure... all the fringe players would just drift to a spot where they could chuck. I hate our pace but I love that the guys know what to do in certain situations.
In short, I do think Phil needs to launch The Triangle Version Two Point Zero. Windows has come a long way from 3.1...
Now he has to find a big man coach not currently with the Knicks organization.
Hakeem, McHale, Walton, Jabbar...he needs to work with a big man known for his interior game.
Don't care if he's shooting 500 3s each day-he can always do that on his own, but he needs to add about 3-5 go to post-up moves to his game for next year.
Our true franchise cornerstone we haven't come close to sniffing since #33 was traded away all those years ago...
nyknickzingis wrote:I was thinking this would say a ton about him. Where his dedication and goals are. Rambis said he thought KP has a level in him to be one of the greats, not just very good, so this is what it's about. Making sacrifices, even unpopular in your country, to work on your game, your phsical conditioning, your weaknesses all of that. Great stuff from him. Wouldn't have been at all upset at him if he played, but this shows his commitment to the Knicks and to become a better basketball player, above all else. I get the sense this guy eats and breathes the game.
KP wants to be great! That's where it starts. When a talented players doesn't just want to be good but wants to be great.

We will have Melo to represent Knicks at the Olympics.
He is now here to do the dirty job.

You really have to not take in every time the "Triangle" is considered that it is unadaptable or that it is used 100% of the time and have a little faith that Phil is not sitting there half crazed insisting that it be run with two handed set shots and the team wear its 1960's vintage shiny shorts! Phil is going to put his brand of signature ball as the core principle. There are but a few people he trusts. One reason his tree peeps have not succeeded is the organizations and fans they coached at were not fully committed to making the rosters right for it, and to do that you need the owner President and GM all on board. Also not cave into short term fan pressure.
its not that we, the faithful re cult like in our optimism, we just want to see this thru. We like that he was able to tear it down and rebuild. I for one am not all into grading each and every move but fascinated by the process of building the franchise again. Acceptance and patience in the face of a media that promotes ridicule and self interest. By that, try to empower a fan base to think they know better and by second guessing the moves it manipulates the fans into thinking they could do better at making decisions.
This is why Mreinman thinks some of us are smug or look down on others. We are, but its not from an elevated stance, its just that sinking low into assumptions off the smallest nuance is not a good take.

not everyone, just some. Some of the others are not completely one sided and eyes shut across the board.
I do think that there are many knick fans who are understandably desperate to have and believe in a savior.

Some of us are open minded and not make decisions based on past performance only. IN fact, one can see that coach's learn from the past.

Of course he can learn just like any other rookie GM/President learns ... problem is that he does not think of himself as a rookie or that he has done a bad job. He thinks "do you have phucking 11 rings putz?"
Is he willing to learn / adapt? If he would be then great! We have a genius basketball mind who realizes that it is not 20 years ago.
