Knicks · Typical reactionary front office move: 48 hours after firing their coach, Memphis already has six coaching candidates lined up (page 1)

crzymdups @ 5/9/2016 1:28 AM

Pretty hasty, if you ask me.

They're going to regret not taking a vacation first to think this through.

nixluva @ 5/9/2016 1:34 AM
Why does someone else's pace in their coaching search matter to the Knicks? Phil wasn't conducting an open search to begin with. Like it or not Phil has his own view on who he wants to coach the team and how he wants to handle the interview process.

Couldn't have said it better myself! Really, who is to say you even need a coach for an NBA team at this point. I hope Phil is similarly patient with Free Agents. Just because everyone else signs free agents starting July 1st doesn't mean you need to go throwing money around all willy nilly.

This has nothing to do with Free Agency. There is no set way to hire a new coach. Phil isn't obligated to follow your personal plan for what he should do. All these coaches were FIRED by someone! There could be other coaches let go. No reason to panic or rush.

I posted this in the Phil vacation thread- and it sort of maybe explains some things.

Perhaps Phil is mulling over a return to the bench, and coaching the Knicks next season.

I mean, if that's the case, you could argue, age aside, he is the best candidate available for the job.

Crazy, come back from the dark side. You used to be one of my favorite posters but it seems you're morphing into a mreinman figure with lots of negativity and trolling

On a more serious note, who is going to conduct these interviews, Wallace who himself is rumored to have one foot out the door?

Something strange is unfolding in Memphis right now. I wouldn't use them as a model to follow

due diligence is so over-rated

I think you missed the sarcasm. Contrast this with our own 'measured' approach.

Nalod @ 5/9/2016 10:41 AM

I'd like to see Rambis get the gig and Shaw be top deputy dog. Maybe then seen that Rambis eventually becomes GM and Shaw the gig.

Why? Dot connecters would prefer the starphuch "Past record means better future here" which is a nice thought. Media knows you guys are "bitter" and will play you.
Nalod see's it as "as long as Phil is here and the franchise is building a culture, then why not fill it with guys who have succeeded with Phil and then continue to build on that.
Does "Fishers" departure make for a "safe" hire to satisfy fans? or does a Rambis tenure make for more "Continuance"?
Phil's decision will be met with criticism either way. Media is encouraging the "bitterness" and if he does hire Vogel or Blatt, then they'll say he caved in to fan's.

Memphis was constructed with a power game and as the players age they need to look toward the future. Jorger and the team looked as if they were heading toward a split.
I think the league has now a "Minority interview process" and Ewing is getting looks, but is it because of respect to his HOF status? or Minority? I don't know.

WHY HASN'T MEMPHIS HIRED A COACH YET?!?!?!

WHY HAVEN'T THE ROCKETS HIRED A COACH YET?!?!??! MOREY IS A BUM! WHY ISN'T HE DOING ANYTHING?!?!?

crzymdups @ 5/9/2016 2:46 PM
Joerger to Sacramento. Maybe Phil is waiting for Walton to get fired.

Did you want Joerger? If not why bytch about it? If you did explain why he was the right guy for this team?

How would I know? I didn't even talk to him. The point is neither did Phil and he's a very successful coach. He dragged a team with less talent than the Knicks this year, once Gasol was out, to the playoffs in the Western conference. But the point isn't whether I know if he's the man for the job or not - the point is that Phil absolutely does not because he didn't interview him, because he's on vacation.

Pacers made the playoffs and their coaching position has been open for 4 days. The Knicks coaching position has been open since early February.

I know this will come as a shock to some of you guys, but in a competitive business landscape people move pretty fast sometimes. A lot can happen while you're out on a camping trip.

crzymdups @ 5/9/2016 3:15 PM
Rockets meeting with Blatt and Vogel and Kenny Smith and Hornacek this week. Rockets made the playoffs, too, by the way. Weird that they're being so hasty about looking for a coach.

crzymdups @ 5/9/2016 3:19 PM
The Grizzlies are absolutely going to reach out to Vogel, probably meet with him and offer him a job this week. The Rockets will, too.

I wonder if Phil will even be back from vacation by then.

Vogel can't just wait around.

I know you guys think this is so so hasty and rash to hire a good coach. But this is kind of how the world works.

Phil never said he was going to conduct a wide open coaching search. He pretty clearly stated he was going to have a tightly closed search among men he knew with perhaps a few exceptions. So all he's doing is exactly what he said he was gonna do.

Yep. And that's the exact problem.

just b/c phil is doing what he said he was gonna do doesn't mean its any less dumb.
crzymdups @ 5/9/2016 3:45 PM
Kurt Rambis doesn't have an official job for next season. Isn't it weird that no one is asking permission to interview him for their coaching vacancies?

Haven't seen Fisher get many looks either.
