I literally don't know how to handle the valuation on the rise in cap space.
But as a fake GM, I'd want 1 of a couple of things from a player for $15M.
1) Young guy with very noticeable upside (Crabbe almost fits this), needs to be projected, solid starter at minimum.
2) 1-time all-star (or near allstar) ala DeMarre Carroll
3) 6th man of the year candidate, needs to be still young
4) No noticable gaps in game. Can't be Jamal Crawford and lack of D, I wouldn't take a wing player who can't shoot from downtown - Evan Turner, etc.
I agree. My criteria is a player who is young enough (27 or under) to still offer upside but already a clear starter at a position of need who will solidify that position for the next 5+ years.

I get it. What I don't know is what ETurn's personality is like. Guys like nick Young and JR smith are superior talents but they are not superior characters (not bad guys mind you). Is this guy quirky? While not really worthy of his lofty draft spot at number 2, this kid has talent but a career not seen to his potential and give him a big time deal just has been all too familiar ring to it.
In a world where Shump gets $10 mil per for 4 years, I can't put a value on ETurn.

I have no idea if he will or won't and now with them knocking out the Spurs he might be more inclined to staying in OKC if he likes B.Donovan. I was just using him as an example of me thinking the Lakers could hit big this off season and getting two significant players. If the Spurs would of beat OKC then i think Durant would of given much more thought to leaving.

pretty bad. His career #s are not good from anywhere. He's below 40% from everywhere but lay up and 10-16 feet for his whole career, and he's a 42% from 10-16 feet. Is that "not bad?" This is not very good for a guy who doesn't create his own shot
The danger in overpaying players this offseason, is likely max salaries will likely get cut down a bit in the new cba (and rookie salaries, LLE and MLE increased), saddling you with a bad contract, so it might not be a good thing to stand your ground and risk not landing anyone of significance

No i didnt? Ive said 6-8mm but Id pay on the high side.
people were moaning about robin lopez and his contract and he worked out great for phil jackson and the triangle. i imagine the same sort of response if evan turner comes here. i really like his game for new york in the triangle, though at first he will seem to be overpaid even with the higher cap. but he will absolutely contribute to the kind of synergy every contender must eventually possess.

His passing and ball movement would be refreshing compared to Afflalo. No doubt is a good fit. But we will need the right PG. Someone that can shoot, not named Calderon.

wow... I completely agree. anyway, I think Turner makes sense and I think sometimes players make the jump a little later than others. While fish is right, he doesn't do anything great, that also omits that he pretty good at everything. I loved his game at Ohio State. Plus our length would be absurd 2 through 5.
All that said I sure hope it doesn't cost $15mm... I don't like the sound of that...
Also if Vogel becomes the HC (hopefully) I doubt Evan Turner is a potential option for the knicks. He played horrible for Vogel's pacers and I doubt either would want to work together again.

that's the thing... for a cheap role player Turner is awesome. He really is. He's a nice glue guy. He is also a low impact player. He is not moving the needle nearly enough to justify throwing bigtime money at. He's a guy that is going to look for a big payday. When he doesn't get it I would be great with an AA type contract. 2 years $16mm. Awesome. If someone wants to give him 4/$60mm enjoy and good luck.

I agree with that completely. I think I would offer something like 5 year and $50 million. I think that's overpaying. But with the cap likely to explode I think that a deal like that will look awesome in two to three years. In a different offseason I'd be more likely to say thanks but no thanks if his agent tried to get something like that.

This brave new world is getting really scary. I'm looking at our own roster, and DWill is opting out. I projected him taking Affalo's dollars, but the way things are going, he'll be looking for more. I definitely value his upside over Shump's.
Contracts are probably going up 50% considering the expected jump the next 2 years. 15 is pushing it for Evan Turner. I would think 10-15 would be the range but maybe I'm wrong. He certainly wasn't a 10 mill per guy based on the old cap

good question. if they lost to SA i thought he would bounce (finally getting his clock is ticking and there's something not working with OKC formula). Now i think he's staying put 100%
was a strange set of emotions. would have liked to see SA play GS and get in the finals for Duncan's swan song, but really glad for OKC and Donovan. put it together at the right time
