Knicks · Phil/Knicks want Batum and will reportedly go max on him. (page 2)

Maybe max out at .500 ball for a couple years. So instead of the dreadful dumpster fire 32 win team we are, we'd just be mediocre. If Phil has any brain cells after his Montana drug trip, save the cash for 2017 free agency instead. Please.
Batums not coming here nor is any great 2017 free agent. There is 0 evidence any great free agent who is healthy will come here. Its a TERRIBLE bet.
How can there be evidence for something not happening in the future?

Well thank you Nostradamus. Why is it that you speak in facts when you have zero facts?? You should start using this abbreviation more often.....IMO or IMHO.....either one would work just fine.
I dont even think batum is worth it always hurt anyway and were not getting him--so were saved. NY and free agency in basketball is terrible--we are a last resort type town.

He wants to be there long term and i'm sure Charlotte is prepared to pay him max as well which as we know their max is worth more than any other teams for Batum.
Hoping everyone else does what Knicks use to do. Over pay and restrict flexibilty. Portland did well without him. Think he is over priced. Rather a young player on verge of next level.

Absolutely. The guy has missed 10 or more games 4/5 years. Hes never avg more than 14 points and his FG % this year was .426 in his prime on a good team. Hes just a name guy not a guy worth anywhere near the money. Id rather overpay Allen Crabbe 14-15mm per than give Batum 25mm in fact its a no brainer.

why would allen crabbe wanna come to a "last resort town" i guess what you're saying is that he'll have no other suitors and he'll have to choose ny because he has no other option. ya know, since ny is a "last resort town" and all.

This is a last resort town. Your over paying for marginal players. Forget big name free agents they get the big money everywhere. Essentially Briggs is saying you get Crabbe only because Knicks offer more money to marginal talent not worth the money he is getting.

Haven't Knicks fans been fooled enough. Batum has no intention of coming to the Knicks he is looking drive up his price by using NYK. Just as Howard is these guys are looking for media attention and are getting it.
I see what BRIGGS sees why would you max out a player like Batum in the first place you'll get a player like Crabbe and not max him out. Briggs is going for upside.

Seems to me he's an important part of the dynamic (i.e., how much Charlotte does or doesn't value MKG) on how far they're willing to go with Batum contract
this guy would be a great addition to the Knicks; my only concern was his decline at end of year and injuries.
You bring up a good point. Portland had confidence that McCallum would step up. Good teams develop talent and trade away guys they don't have long term plans for.
I would imagine that Batum and his agent let them know what their price would be and all were cool to make a trade to a team that would pay it.
Batum is NOT COMING TO NY as said, he is likey just resigning. This is the high percentage play. He might take a meeting with Phil, and media will blow it out as "Failure" if he resigns in Charlotte.
Its smart for Phil to agree or have a meeting as "You never know".
Aflalo at 8mm is a decent value. I'd like to see AA not try to create as much off the dribble. Batum value at max is more than double AA salary. Sure he is an upgrade but is he the guy?
Media wants a big name to boast or it bash's Phil.

Eisley and Anderson came in a trade. Jerome, Weatherspoon and Jared Jeffries were all guys we used the MLE for.
Im pretty sure the last 3 years the Knicks had real cap space were the Houston/Childs, Amare, Tyson and Rolo offseasons. Amare was an obvious bust but when the Knicks have had money they have gotten quality guys.

Batum's is you have a really good player you are overpaying. Crabbe's downside is you just gave Langston Galloway $18mm a year. Both have risk. Its not even like we have to win the bidding war, we have to hope Portland (who needs him) wont match. Why wouldn't they do that again?
I consider people making a pure choice "unrestricted" free agency. Restricted free agency is about who will pay me the most. If we gave Crabbe 14.5mm a year why would he not sign? But on the other hand we have NO chance to get a Westbrook or Curry next year zero none nada--they wont even consider us. We have chances at either young players who are semi established(Crabbe Seth Curry) flawed players (Branden Jennings Dwight Howard OJ Mayo) or guys we will just flat out over pay with a max contract that no one else will(Amare) But will a Shaq type player do a Orlando to LA -- nope.
