Knicks · Phil/Knicks want Batum and will reportedly go max on him. (page 1)

So i know we have a lot of Batum lovers on here and he'd fit our system perfectly but from the way i've heard Batum talking he won't be leaving Charlotte. He wants to be there long term and i'm sure Charlotte is prepared to pay him max as well which as we know their max is worth more than any other teams for Batum.

Everyone has cap room this year so you're going to have to overpay. I'd probably be most comfortable overpaying for Batum. Not only is he as versatile as the article says, but he's international, and NY is quickly becoming the spot to go if you're not American.

so generally this boils down to this tweet:

Raptors, who have DeMarre Carroll and DeMar DeRozan and not too much cap space, would consider Batum at the max? I guess this needs more explaining.

crzymdups @ 5/16/2016 9:44 AM
This report is based off a tweet of a writer saying Batum knows the Knicks and Raptors would offer him a max, but he's not leaving Charlotte. He says he doubt he'll even talk to other teams.

Oh, yeah, what martin said.

I am a fan of his, although I am beginning to find his frequent stints on the DL pretty troubling. My fear is we max him or give him near max and he becomes a spectator. Not sure how many guys are considering NY with his skill level, so it is a risk we might have to take.

I love how every media outlet knows what Phil wants. This to me seems like the old Knicks giving me Max money. Media runs with it and puts it out there for all to see. Batum's camp sits back and waits for Max offers to roll in.

I'll believe it when he signs the bottom line.

Ive said it 100 times, players need to create a market and fan support to get a better deal. More teams bidding, the more the price goes up.
We hear all the time players say "They want to stay".......Two reasons, in most cases they can get a better deal, create fan appeal to team if liked in that city, and other teams knowing they have to up their bids.

I too find his frequent trips to the DL a concern.
earthmansurfer @ 5/16/2016 10:50 AM
I really can't imagine Batum wanting to stay in Charlotte. I just don't give them much of a chance to compete going forward.
Yeah, we've done a horrendous job over the years but it is still NY and now throw on some Phil and KP, with a little Melo - we have a decent chance.
I think Batum knows he would fit real well here. My bet is he is coming here.
anrst @ 5/16/2016 11:49 AM
Batum staying in Charlotte is nonsense. Phil and his 11 ring cache will attract free agents to NY.
ChuckBuck @ 5/16/2016 11:57 AM
Batum would be an instant upgrade at the 2 guard/swing man position. That said it still doesn't fix the point guard position. Barring an incredible turnaround of epic proportions from Grant and Wroten, we still suck major. Getting a prime Batum playing to best of his abilities affords us maybe 4 or 5 wins tops. Maybe max out at .500 ball for a couple years. So instead of the dreadful dumpster fire 32 win team we are, we'd just be mediocre.

If Phil has any brain cells after his Montana drug trip, save the cash for 2017 free agency instead. Please.

fishmike @ 5/16/2016 12:22 PM
file this under time will tell. Agents float tons of stuff. So do other FOs.

This is one of the few guys I would be comfortable overpaying for. I believe he's a big needle mover and would be an excellent player for the younger guys on the roster to watch.

Batums not coming here nor is any great 2017 free agent. There is 0 evidence any great free agent who is healthy will come here. Its a TERRIBLE bet.

I bet this is a smokescreen. While Batum would be nice on the Knicks, I doubt the prioritize Batum with the majority of their cap space when they need a SG and bench depth.

That would be great if we could build that sort of reputation.
I was hoping that was starting to happen when we had Gallinari and Mozgov.

Spurs have always done well with their international focus, but I'm always surprised there aren't more teams fighting to sign overseas talent outside of the draft.

you keep saying this and yet every year the Knicks have had cap space they have done very well. Your predictions are a TERRIBLE bet.

Good franchises plan for both. That means you work to get the big fish and at the same time develop the little fishes who sometimes grow. Keep working the youth movement and try for a big fish. If you don't land one don't overspend on role players that don't move the needle

Charlotte is a really good young team with some really good young players and should be good for a long time and i love their coach S.Clifford. Batum made a comment not too long ago about how much he loves playing for Charlotte and how everyone is at or under 27 and they'll be good for a long time. Now i know how the free agent talk goes but he was very believable and i really don't think he'll go elsewhere since he loves it there and they can pay him more with an additional year. His injury concerns are concerning but a healthy N.Batum fits what we need perfectly and i'd take the chance on him with a max contract if he did want to sign with us.

Chandler @ 5/16/2016 1:20 PM
still seems like the Blazers almost gave Batum away. Blazers make a lot of smart moves but that one was a little baffling

What's the latest with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist? Seems to me he's an important part of the dynamic (i.e., how much Charlotte does or doesn't value MKG) on how far they're willing to go with Batum contract

this guy would be a great addition to the Knicks; my only concern was his decline at end of year and injuries.

Well thank you Nostradamus. Why is it that you speak in facts when you have zero facts?? You should start using this abbreviation more often.....IMO or IMHO.....either one would work just fine.

How can there be evidence for something not happening in the future?
