Knicks · salary cap in 2017 will be roughly 110 mm (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 5/20/2016 12:52 PM
Last years cap was 67mm

To take this into perspective because EVERY team will
The current MLE of 4 years 23 mm would now equate to 4 years and roughly 34.4 mm
So any player you give roughly 8.7 mm to is getting mid range level exemption money. The contract Shumpert got for example will only be slightly above an mle. If you want a free agent you are going to have to spend money that in the past may sound quite high but it won't be to most teams anymore. You're going to have to pay up

If true then signing max player this yr based on our salary structure we would still be able to sign another max player next yr as well.

There will be a lockout in 2017 before the cap hits 110m. Planning around the number is not 100% fail proof. Cap may be lowered substantially.

I'm sure the players will accept a drop in a collectively bargained price??????? With all of the new tv money?????? Sure!

thats what ive been saying for months now. lol. so a player worth 10 mill might be 15-18 mill. a free agent who is a quality starter will be around 15 mill.

this salary cap explosion will change everything for the next 2 yrs!

PS im going to this conference during the vegas summer league. hosted by larry coon the cap guru. its mainly for NBA execs or NBA nerds like myself. should be fun

Just because you have cap space doesn't mean teams will max out their spending flexibility.
And yes top free agents will be over paid just like every year....but the bottom guys who are left looking for a team will get paid based on their market value, just like every year. The difference with the increased cap is more teams will use the Miami model and load up on multiple top free agents. This is where the triangle system has its advantages. If done correctly you don't need a team full of top iso style free agents.....but system guys like batum is extremely valuable to Phil and he will over pay for him.

You've been posting this for a couple of weeks now in multiple threads and you don't know for sure if there will be a lockout or not yet.

Ok

Im inclined to not be super worried either... its a fixed # based on the TV revenue. I mean isnt that what they fought for last time? They said if the money is there the cap will go up, but it should always be balanced with the revenue, as opposed to just going a certain increment which can cause salary inflation. Owners dont have much to stand on... they will only be paying more because of what is going directly into their pockets from the TC contracts
foosballnick @ 5/21/2016 12:41 PM
Been saying this for a while. Guys like Conley might garner over $25 MM and max players next year like Curry could approach $40 million. Makes Lopez contract very reasonable, Grant and KP rookie contracts very valuable,
