As many of you have seen on my various posts, I have mentioned a few PGs - with the notion that the knicks "probably" won't get a top flight PG. Folks have mentioned Mike Conley but most likely practical replacements (for Jose) will be: grant or wroten. i HOPE they try to bring in a free agent - a short term contract for a mediocre like: rondo or jennings. But also be on the look out for sleepers like Shelvin Mack or Trey Burke. I repeat - these are NOT good players but more "likely" options to look at
Pros - young and quick - 3 yrs experience as a starter - showed flashes in the past - may need a new environment/system - will be CHEAP (since he hasnt been that good lately)
Cons - horrible shooter and finisher - lost his job to Mack and Neto at Utah - small PG in the triangle system - bad defender - more of a scorer than a passer

I know our options are limited and we really need guards but I'm not a big fan of Trey. I don't even think he's a terrible shooter at all, he just has really poor shot selection. On a short reasonable deal I might take a chance but otherwise i'd rather spend money elsewhere.

I agree. I don't think he should be a "target" but I wouldn't mind settling for him on a short term deal

Lin makes more sense.

They are good players... why is it so hard to say that. They could fit in a rotation. Mack actually was very good as a starter. Trey was in the doghouse for whatever reason, but won a few games for Utah with his jumps shot.
I think we're not in the market for either player. We already have two 23 year old point guard that are 6'5" and 6'6".... I think we're ok on that front

I agree with you, why not just give Grant the run.

Lin makes perfect sense. he shouldn't have left to begin with. but he was run outta town by dolan and Lin would never return to the knicks. besides there would be a lot of pressure to live up to linsanity

I agree grant should get MORE playing time. but he might not be that good. wroten might not be physically capable and we all know what jose is

That's just negative. We finally saw Grant make that next step in April. He should be ready to build on that. It's more about confidence with him. Wrotenis the opposite. It's already reported by a few players that Wroten is back to normal. I think we can get off the doom and gloom and be positive because we have legit reasons to

I think Lin is far better. I'd actually be willing to pay Lin pretty decent money.

Minimum salary in the NBA is more than pretty decent money.
GustavBahler@ 6/1/2016 6:55 PM
I dont want to see the Knicks possibly going into the playoffs without a PG who has some playoff experience and can contribute. Even if Calderon is around and has a good year, I would rather the Knicks find a veteran PG on a short term rental who can shore up the lack of experience (especially playoff experience) at PG, as insurance.
I know the Knicks arent getting to the finals for the next few years unless there is some kind of trade that pays big dividends. Doesn't mean that the Knicks shouldn't try to give KP /Grant/Wroten/Hernangomez as much playoff experience as they can handle. It also keeps Melo interested and focused, something to play for other than just helping develop players, which he has done willingly. Right now we dont have a good deal of experience at PG.

im not sure how this is a negative statement. i think grant SHOULD get more playing time because (cuz i like his talent) yet on the other hand he might not be that good. i think thats fair. im happy he got playing time in april and im even more happier that coach hornecek will play more PNR which suits him .
also wroten after 2 ACL knee surgeries might not be physically capable - i also think thats a fair statement. sure its been reported, sure theres been videos - but until we see he can handle NBA action over a long period of time, then yes ill remain concerned. i think thats fair. (by the way, its the same way i felt about KDurant when he hurt is foot and embiid also when he rehabbed. me personally i just need to see that they can handle NBA action - until then Wroten is a question mark in my eyes)
and we all know jose is bad. lol

Yeah, and if i remember correctly, he didn't live up to it anywhere else, either.

Burke's an interesting name. I remember talking about him back in Feb. when there was a rumor that Ty Lawson could be traded to the Jazz for him. Was thinking maybe we could've made a play for him back then.. He can score, he's young and he's got upside--that's what makes him attractive. Took guys like Chauncey Billups & Kyle Lowry a few years before their careers really took off and both needed a change of scenery before that happened. I don't think Burke's a FA though--think he has a yr or two left on his deal, no? What would you trade to get him? A package built around Grant maybe?? I'd prefer not to move Hernangomez if possible. 6'11" 250 lb C/PF with an already advanced post game, plus he can shoot a little too and rebound. I think we hold onto Willy for now.
