Knicks · Pierre Jackson and Arnett Moultrie At Knicks FA Mini Camp (page 1)

Pierre Jackson and Arnett Moultrie will be among the veterans working out for the Knicks at the team's free agent mini camp this week, according to Ian Begley of ESPN and Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders.

Jackson was selected with the 42nd pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, but has never appeared in a NBA game. The 5'10" guard bounced around between the D-League and several teams in Europe, and most recently played for the Idaho Stampede of the D-League earlier this year.

Moultrie was drafted with the 27th pick in the 2012 NBA Draft by the Miami Heat. Shortly after, he was traded to the 76ers, where he played two seasons and averaged 3.6 points and 3.1 rebounds in 59 games total. The 6'10" power forward last played for Atenienses de Mantai of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional in Puerto Rico.

As even more details trickle out about the participation in this camp, they will be interesting to review.

Such a free agent tryout is the first opportunity to get a glimpse of the types of players new head coach Jeff Hornacek is intrigued by. He's made it clear that personnel matters fall under the responsibilities of both Phil Jackson and Steve Mills, but he still prefers to have input. Assessing the players who take part in the camp will be a decent indication of the given skill-set(s) Hornacek appreciates.

There are various holes for New York to fill. Luckily for them, there are plenty of opportunities to explore both young talent, and perhaps a veteran or two looking for redemption. They'll have a chance to explore things not only at this upcoming tryout, but Summer League and training camp as well. Of course, more substantial opportunities come via the draft and free agency.

As for a player like Jackson, the young gun's early career has been muddled by injuries. Still, as one of the better offensive players in all of the D-League for multiple seasons, he's a skilled scorer. He previously held the minor league's single game scoring record.

Ex-Sixers guard Pierre Jackson will work out for the Knicks this week during their free agent mini camp, sources told ESPN. Jackson is also scheduled to work out for Portland and Dallas later this month. The Knicks are holding a mini camp for free agents this week looking for end-of-the roster players and Summer League/training camp invitees, sources say.

Nobody can say Phil is sitting in his ass. The Knicks are in the mix of everything trying to get better.

It's really something to see how active the Knicks have been despite the Media narrative that Phil is sleep at the wheel.

These media guys don't know jack squat about what Phil and his staff had planned. I'm glad he's keeping them in the dark. He tried to be open and friendly with them but they showed him no respect so screw'em.

Whatever it is, it's a distinct change from years past. mini camp at end of season. tank season. Tony Wroten gamble. Free agent tryouts. DLeague team aligned with Knicks. Saying F U to shit media.

It's all good.

I loved Jackson pre-injury. He was amazing and could be a great pick up. Philly did right by him paying for his rehab etc. He did get suspended from his d league team this past year for some reason. Also, his numbers were good but nothing like pre-injury.

Phil and his staff are better than a lot of people in the media tend to give them credit for. Sure you can point to mistakes and missteps but on the whole there have been a lot of solid steps made and they've avoided a lot of big mistakes that have long term negative impact.

Now the direction for the next 3 years is set. KP and the other young players will be developed under Hornacek, which I believe will be a very good thing for this team. Not to mention JH having an impact on FA's and the kind of players we draft.

Nice move. I remember when Pierre was tearing up the D league a couple years ago averaging over 30ppg and I was crying for us to call him up when Felton was our pg. When healthy, he is lightning quick with a quick first step. Makes sense to take a look at him.

A team had his rights and refused to trade him. Then he blew his Achilles. Totally sucked

I think the Pelicans had his rights. I don't remember how Philly acquired him but Hinkie paid for his rehab.

Moultrie had talent I wonder what happen. Also, the knicks received Moultrie in a trade two years ago.

We need to get a like and dislike button on here or something like that. I have no idea if that's something easy or hard to do cause i'm not a big computer guy but if it's easy then it'd be cool if whoever is in charge of that on here would consider it.

newyorker4ever @ 6/8/2016 10:56 AM
So Pierre is a small PG guys and i know that goes against what Phil wants at the PG position but i guess if JH doesn't mind then he can get Phil to sign him if he's healthy but can the guy shoot the rock or is he just another penetrating PG which we already have two of in Grant and Wroten??
